Tattenham Corner, Epsom Downs

Don't know what everyone is complaining about. It's not a pub , it's a restaurant. The food isn't great. It's ok though and it's cheap.

The Belmont, Sutton

Has now turned into an Ember Inn. The food is OK and it's cheap , the problem is the customers. If they could segregate the eating and drinking areas , it might help. I doubt it though. If you enjoy listening to people from the Shanklin estate swearing while you eat , then you are in luck , this is the place for you.

Ye Olde Swan Inn, Thames Ditton

Had a lovely lunch yesterday. Good pub grub , fantastic location and pleasant staff.

The Brockley Barge, Brockley

Watch out for Sid leering at the young ladies.

The Windsor Castle, Carshalton

It's not bad , but there's something that I can't quite put my finger on about the place. Even sitting high up in the garden you feel a bit uneasy as the passengers on the upper deck of the bus look at you. Probably just me , there are certainly worse places in Carshalton.

The Greyhound, Carshalton

What has happened to this once brilliant pub? Back in the early 80s it was great for a rowdy night out with punks and bikers , but never any aggro. If that was not to your teastes , you could relax in the swan bar in front of a roaring fire smoking a pipe. I didn't even mind stumping a lot of money for the food until recently as they had a decent chef with his own menu. Now they have exactly the same menu as every othe Youngs pub , so not much freedom for the chef to practice his craft there. This has happened to every Youngs pub that I've been to since they split from the brewery. The already expensive prices have gone up even more , yet the quality has gone down. Over nine quid for a bottle of Bulmers (they don't have Magners) and a small glass of wine, I don't think so. The place used to be licence to print money with people 3 deep at the bar , not any more.

The Hastings Arms, Hastings

There are worse places to waste a few hours in Hastings.

25 Sep 2011 20:28

Ye Olde Pump House, Hastings

Not bad , but not much space for those not eating.

25 Sep 2011 20:23

The West Quay, Brighton

far too cheap for such a great location.

The Hand In Hand, Brighton

Spend a fascinating evening observing the curious mix of locals.

The Ramblers Rest, Chipstead

The menu is overpriced and pretentious. That would be ok if the food lived up to the menu.

The Haywain, Epsom

All perfectly fine for the money , but why do you have to go to the bar to order food? It isn't really a pub after all.

The Blue Ball, Walton On The Hill

Pleasant outside seating area , but service has gone downhill. I asked if my meal was supposed to come with chips and was told "no". I checked on the menu and it was , obviously too much of an effort.

Toby Carvery, Ewell

I was pleasantly surprised. The bar menu actually looks better than the carvery one and is a nicer place to eat.

Dewdrop Inn, Eastbourne

Best pub we found in Eastbourne and some decent tunes being played for our tastes. They should make the students at least buy a drink though. They seem to come in to use the wifi or chat to friends , but most didn't seem to spend a penny!

The Buccaneer, Eastbourne

It was all pretty good until the staff of the local theatre turned up at 10pm and demanded karaoke. The novelty of these camp youngsters fighting to sing the next song off key wore off pretty quickly. The manager apologised about them as we left which at least put a smile on my face.

The Cavalier, Eastbourne

Dear oh dear , a throwback from the 1970s. The locals seemed perfectly happy with it and we had to leave before the karaoke started. In comparison , the local Wetherspoons was like a palace. The unfortunate huge fish kept in a tank that it could barely fit into didn't help with the atmosphere. I also suffered from overcharging as I was a tourist.

The White Bear, Fickleshole

Our favourite place for lunch , if a bit on the pricy side. Lovely setting for a good old fashioned boozer. It's just a shame that you can't get there by public transport as I've never had an alcoholic drink in there!

The Mint, Banstead

Perhaps things have changed , but we had lunch there yesterday and it was all perfectly pleasant. The food took a while to arrive , but was pretty good quality , especially bearing in mind it was from the 3 courses for a tenner lunch menu. Others obviously agree as there was hardly a spare seat to be had. The staff were attentive and courteous throughout the two hours we spent there. It also makes a pleasant change to have waitress service in a pub setting. All in all not bad , we shall be returning.

The Chelsea Ram, Chelsea

Really top back street local.

9 Aug 2006 11:34

The Boatman, Guildford

Hideously overpriced for a pint of froth and the staff couldn't give a toss.

7 Aug 2006 16:20

Reds Bar, Sutton

I am surprised that the manager can show his face after the savaging he received from Al Murray at Fairfield the other week.

The Cock and Bull, Sutton

Only go to the toilet if you are an accomplished mountaineer.

7 Aug 2006 16:07

Whispering Moon, Wallington

If I wanted to meet people from Roundshaw , I'd got to Roundshaw.

7 Aug 2006 15:56

The Moon on the Hill, Sutton

Chavorama.

7 Aug 2006 15:52

The Butterchurn, Sutton

Watch out for spiders' webs (on people's faces that is).

7 Aug 2006 15:47

The Greyhound, Carshalton

Not as good as it once was and hard to get a seat unless you venture into the old codgers' bar. Top bit of nosh in the restaurant though and still a pleasnt place to spend the evening.

7 Aug 2006 15:38

The Nightingale, Sutton

Nice little boozer , but knock the Thai food on the head and free up some more tables.

7 Aug 2006 15:31

The Lord Nelson, Sutton

Dear oh dear oh dear , at least you can always get a seat. Growing a beard might also help before entering. Not a typical Youngs pub by any means , no food and no atmosphere.
