The Pilot Inn, North Greenwich

For such a populated town as Greenwich this place is truly out of the way.
Plenty of buses nearby but a long walk from town (although only 10 minutes from North Greenwich). It is an old pub next to small terrace of houses. They are the only pre 1995 buildings for about 1 mile around I think.
Food is good , especially the fish. Not always open all day (I think) so check first.

The Guildford, Greenwich

Back street pub in the posh part of town not too far from main station but a fair way from town centre.

Here on a winters Wednesday night and it was dead. That said what did I expect?
Looks a tad clinical. Modern wooden tables and flooring.
I have heard the food is very good and so is the garden. Will venture back.

The Ashburnham Arms, Greenwich

Like this place. Friendly locals offering their papers to read.
Out of the way a bit but close to the main station if you know where you are going. They had a cat, he looked a cool dude..

Lord Hood, Greenwich

This is a 100pc traditional old pub. I have been here plenty of times over the years as it is next door to Up The Creek. Only about a 5 minute walk from the town centre.

A lot of pubs like this have closed in the area. Go and check it out. Just don't expect Sushi with your crisps..

Admiral Hardy, Greenwich

I was here a couple of months ago.
Music posters on the wall , kind of trendy feel about the place.
Good place to stop off away from the market crowds. It was dead when we were there.
Girlfriend seems to remember an open fire (but I do not ) !

The Coach, Greenwich

Decent pub. Bloke behind bar very friendly. Benches outside so you could drink your pint whilst eating snake head soup or similar from the market.

24 Feb 2013 18:06

The Gipsy Moth, Greenwich

Good pub in prime location. Quite a few tourists but also quite a few people who looked like they were from the area enjoying a drink. Big outside area and I seem to remember they have those heating lamp things (it was 0c so I did not venture out to check this). Service sometimes a bit slow but nothing terrible.

24 Feb 2013 18:04

The Rose and Crown, Greenwich

Decent enough Victorian style pub next to the theatre.
Food ok, salad not too filling but then it was a salad. Nice enough crowd.

24 Feb 2013 18:00

The Plume of Feathers, Greenwich

Decent enough pub. People do tend to sit round the bar but that is ok. This is the Plume of Feathers not the "Dockers Fist" so the natives are friendly enough.
Barmaid was chatty when we were there. Gets quite mobbed during the day at the weekend as it is so close to the park. Nice old fashioned pub.

16 Feb 2013 17:22

The Pelton Arms, Greenwich

Good pub if a little pricey.
They have bands on at the weekend. Mostly these are of the cover or tribute variety.
An older crowd get in here (so a sort of Venue for the over 35's without the closing time horse burger and illegal cab home).
Open till gone 1 usually. Best pub in the area..

16 Feb 2013 17:18

The Royal Standard, Greenwich

No thrills pub (although I suppose karoake and tarot card reading do count as thrills of sorts).
Good Guiness. A locals pub but none the worse for that. Small garden too. not tried it yet as was -3c last time I visited.

16 Feb 2013 17:14

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

Decent sized pub with a outdoor seating area by the river which makes it very popular in the summer.
Upstairs there is a huge bay window with great views but you probably won't get near it as there will be a group of drink addled privately educated students sitting there playing scrabble.
Priceyish but not as much as the Trafalgar.

16 Feb 2013 17:11

Trafalgar Tavern, Greenwich

Big pub resembling a fading hotel in a small midlands town.
Pricey booze but then the view is good and it is on the edge of tourist land.
Great views (of course). I just get the impression it has been left to drift for a few years.

16 Feb 2013 17:07

The Yacht, Greenwich

Underrated pub, located as it is between the swisher Trafalgar and Cutty Sark.
It is ok in here. It is just enough off the main track so as not to be mad busy.
You can often get a great seat overlooking the window even on a weekend night (you will not manage this in one of the other 2 I mentioned).
It is a little dark and dated with a rubbish carpet but so what...

16 Feb 2013 17:04

The Star and Garter, Greenwich

"Solid boozer" as last reviewer said.
Looks like it has not changed much since 1973. It is quite small but they have a function hall and offer it for hire for free as long as you drink the Thames dry in return.
I will check with my mates and get back to them...

16 Feb 2013 17:01

Hardys Freehouse, Greenwich

Oldies pub I suppose but nothing wrong with that.

Guinness was decent. Not tried the food yet or the restaurant next door which is attached to the pub.

16 Feb 2013 16:59

The Crown, Greenwich

Smallish (I suppose) 'traditional' pub on the main Trafalgar Road in East Greenwich.
Decent enough crowd in here.
Lately they seem to have cornered the local market in 'hen nights for £10, strippers included' specials.
Shine on you crazy diamonds...

16 Feb 2013 16:57

The Vanbrugh, Greenwich

Decent pub. Good for a post match pint after watching Charlton draw again (it is right by Maze Hill station).
Bar staff are friendly, good few beers and whenever I have eaten here the food has been good.
One girl behind the bar claims to speak 5 languages (or was it 6)...

16 Feb 2013 16:54

The Angerstein, Greenwich

Large 'no thrills' pub with comarding view of A102(M).
Bar staff nice enough, big screen if you want to watch the football.
I think a couple of people had been sat at the bar a while when I was in there but the natives are friendly enough..

16 Feb 2013 16:51

The Clachan, Soho

Been coming here years on and off - good pint of Guiness and you can normally find a seat if you hang around long enougth...

15 Feb 2006 17:24

The Windmill, Mayfair

Very pleasant trad pub with red interior and ornate cornicing. Food looked good but didnt sample, apparently pub is a founder member of "Campaign for Real Food" whatever that means.

15 Feb 2006 17:16

Black Lion and French Horn, Mayfair

My mate reckoned it was one of those places trying to look like an old pub but everything's new and there's no atmosphere. Although he did say the cheap Stella was a redeeming feature. I liked it !

15 Feb 2006 17:14

The Masons Arms, Mayfair

Good find. Tudor exterior. Cosy interior with Fire and sofas. Bunches of grapes on the cornicing. Seemed to have a comedy club upstairs...

15 Feb 2006 17:08

Ye Grapes, Mayfair

Excellent pub but rammed on the Friday night we visited. Stag Heads and enormous Fish, etc as decoration. Nice quiet location away from busy roads.

15 Feb 2006 16:59

The Red Lion, Mayfair

Tucked away in a quiet back street. Leaded windows and low ceiling. Was very packed (Friday night) and smoky but not bad. Usually does good business as it benefits from not having another pub too nearby.

15 Feb 2006 16:58

The Punch Bowl, Mayfair

Very cosy candle lit interior. Lots of old charicatures and WW2 memorabilia for decoration plus a picture of the queen and 4 hounds!

15 Feb 2006 16:52

The Audley, Mayfair

Biggish pub whose main attraction is that it is the only drinking hole in about a 1/2 mile radius - quite a feat for central London! Resonable looking place, a tad hurray-Henryesque - but then again 'tis Mayfair !

15 Feb 2006 16:36

The New Cross Turnpike, Welling

It's ok in here,i mean it's cheap enougth but it's just a bit souless and boring...

I find the furnishings a bit stark and the 4 minute walk to the loo (via several stairs and doors) rather disconcerting..

Being a chain pub they also have the habit of opening the doors to chase you out in winter - charming..

19 Dec 2005 13:41

The New Moon, Welling

Under new management(again). New stern landlady says old manager is banned.

Standard operating proceedure then....

19 Dec 2005 13:12

Ben Crouch's Tavern, Fitzrovia

Good pub and Kevin the landlord is friendly enougth. Two things to look out for - the ubiquitious pick-pockets and the little asian guy that stands alone in his own spot at the bar all day and has done so for the last 10 years..

15 Dec 2005 12:06

The Prince Albert, Bexleyheath

This place hasn't changed in 20 years. Neither have the owners. I like it. Eagerly await a brass kettle landing on my head so I can sue "smiley Ben" for every penny...

15 Dec 2005 11:56

The Rose, Bexleyheath

The best pub on the Broadway if a bit of 'gas n gargle' is your thing. I quite enjoy turning up here at 10pm Friday nights after drinking uptown and scaring my mates with my crazed rantings! Also worth hanging around after last orders to watch John harranging all the 17 year old girls who try and sneek in after the "Rat" has closed to use the toilet !

15 Dec 2005 11:51

The New Moon, Welling

umm, been in there last 2 Tuesday nights. They have a sort of "indie disco" - the music's great but it's a bit too loud considering there's never more than 10 people in the pub at any one time ! The landlord always makes an effort to say hello and the barman is amazed anyone from Welling knows where Gdansk is!
All in all a pleasant surprise in DA16 land !
