The George Abbot, Guildford

Went in on a Saturday afternoon to watch the footie and found a slightly different vibe to the pub. Change of management perhaps? Prices up, shifted the tables around etc. Still a good pub but my advice to the manager is to increase the staffing levels. You had 2 very good bar staff but they were run ragged and struggled to keep up, and then I noticed they had to double up as waiters! On my next visit I wont be quite so patient and will take my money elsewhere.

The Nelson, Farnham

Looks as if new owners/ managers have taken over but not sure as I use this pub infrequently. All I know is that I have paid the Nelson my last ever visit! 2 pints £9!
I hate having the piss taken out of me and that's what they are doing when they charge these ridiculous prices for offering absolutely fuck all.
goodbye

Wheat Sheaf Public House, Farnham

Hideously overpriced, at least the beer prices are, don't know about the food. Beer kept at the wrong temperatures and served by young students on a gap year without any knowledge of the product they are dispensing. Avoid like the plague unless you are a yummy mummy out for a spot of lunch. Not for the drinker.

The Tottenham, Soho

Arranged to meet here with a few lads before we hit the hot spots of Soho. I arrived first and had a pint of draught pale ale. Excellent pint but for fucks sake £4.80!! When the lads arrived eager to taste their range of ales I advised them of the price and we all agreed they could keep their beer and we'd all take our custom elsewhere. Tourists and theatre goers are their obvious target but they lost a few customers yesterday

The Guildford Tup, Guildford

Cripes ! Whats happened to this boozer? Used to be a good atmospheric pub, sport on tv plenty of punters friendly bar staff etc. But what a change! 3 of us watching the euros, every pint, and I do mean every pint, the barmaid pulled was under measure. Mine to such an extent that I thought she was having a laugh with me, it was a good inch from the brim. The bar manager was surly who seemed suspicious of his customers. I couldn't wait to get out. Left at half time never to return.

The Derby Arms, Epsom Downs

Thinking of paying the Derby Arms a visit? Well I went yesterday and paid £15 for 2 drinks. A pint of Doombar was £5 and a glass of Rose wine £10. No further comment needed.

The Albion, Farnham

I've been in a lot of boozers in my time but I do believe that this is the most immaculate looking pub I've ever frequented. For cleanliness and décor 10 out of 10, but it does give a rather sterile atmosphere. The beers good, the service is faultless but yet...yet....

The Pump House, Brighton

Nice pub with a good atmosphere and good selection of real ales. I thought I would indulge in fish and chips seeing as I was having a rare sojourn to the south coast but baulked at the price. £11.95 are you having a laugh? I went down to the sea front and had a lovely meal of cod and chips for £6.20. Surely this town has it the wrong way round its usually pricier the nearer you get to the seafront.

The Jolly Sailor, Farnham

Doing all the right things, refurbished, good selection of real ales, live music etc etc. but my message to the new owners is lighten up for gods sake, the landlady has all the charm of adolph hitler without his charisma, "turn the music down, turn the music down". As for the landlord, go on crack a smile you're in the hospitality trade now, people are in your boozer for a good time at least give the impression that you are glad to see them even if you're not

The Coal Hole, Strand

Bring back the pies!

The Tipperary, Fleet Street

Went here before I ventured across the road to the Olde Cheshire Cheese and I'm glad I did it that way round. Good pub but not in the same league as the Cheese. Is Fleet Street on the tourist trail? Seems to me that the pubs are infinitely better this side of London, not yet been ruined.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street

One of the best pubs in London, and I've been to a few, a genuine old fashioned feel to it. The bitter is not bad and the pork pies are to die for but that isn't really the point. Just enjoy the ambience.

Queens Head, Farnham

thanks Queens Head. I've reached the tipping point where i will no longer imbibe my favourite beverages in pubs. I ordered a pint of HSB and a glass of Rose wine and was astounded to be charged ten pounds and twenty pence! You publicans are killing your own golden goose. I am never paying those prices again, from now on its either Weatherspoons in Guildford or Woking or the Offie. goodbye!

25 Jun 2013 12:28

The Lamb, Farnham

Cannot believe it! Landlord has left after 17 years. First impressions of new regime are not good. Barman personable enough but the bitter(Kents Best) was way too cold and had debris in the bottom of the glass. I will give it another chance but if things dont improve its the Cobbett for me.

The George, Eton

Traditional looking boozer inside and out and one that I was looking forward to visiting after a busy day out in Windsor. The pub itself was very quiet, 2 or 3 student types chatting to the equally student looking barman. I had a pint of Huntsmans Best while my partner had a pint of lager and lime. Then came the price! 8 pounds and 10p!
When will these pubs learn. If they had charged a reasonable amount, maybe 6 pounds 10p, then I would have quite happily spent the rest of the afternoon in there. As it was I couldnt wait to get out and felt annoyed with myself for paying these exorbitant prices.
Went to Weatherspoons and had a full rack of ribs with a pint of John Smiths for 8.25. Nuff said.

The Black Prince, New Haw

It is an unfortunate human characteristic that we generally feel like writing a review when there is something wrong. This time I'm giving the Black Prince the thumbs up. A good traditional English pub, beer quality good and reasonably priced, customer service OK, a good mix of ages all enjoying the ambience. Well done.

Wheat Sheaf Public House, Farnham

So a new landlord is in place, been there two days and Im sitting at the front bar with my young lady. He comes down from who knows where upstairs to speak to his equally new barman, totally ignores his customers, who for all he knows are long standing drinkers who habitually use his boozer, then disappears again. Well fuck you too. I wont be using this pub again while this dickhead is in charge. The previous incumbent was another short term landlord but at least he tried to get to know his customers and to be honest Im sorry to see him go

The Prince Arthur, Fleet

No complaints about the service though possibly because it wasnt very busy last saturday afternoon when I was there. The quietest Weatherspoons Ive been in. But if Im going to be charged 3.98 for two pints of 49er then Im staying for the long haul and Jeez it was a long haul. Apologies to anyone who may have been affected by my drunken behaviour, although I dont remember doing anything too outrageous

The Blind Beggar, Whitechapel

Barman approached me and as a form of greeting just raised an eyebrow, none of the usual courtesies expected from someone serving the public, but after another pint of Courage Best Bitter I thought I would try a little small talk and surprisingly he turned out to be quite an affable chap. Lets put it down to the fact that there isnt an Englishman serving behind a bar anywhere in the Eastend any longer. Also maybe they could address the little problem of their drains, every now and then the most orrible nift permeated the bar.

14 Oct 2012 16:19

The White Hart, Witley

Stopped for a beer after a great country walk. When will these pubs learn that if they charge too much they lose trade. I had a great pint of Youngs Special and would have had a few more but resent the high prices and refuse to pay these prices. So it was back on the road for me and the missus and I wont be returning.

10 Jun 2012 16:24

The Ship, Ripley

Five of us attempted to visit this pub today (Sunday) and our experience mirrors one previous reviewer. Walked in to be greeted with a curt "we're closed". None of the usual common courtesys just some ugly old bird who obviously hates the world. Good riddance ugly hope you go bankrupt. A pub a day goes bust in this country, if theres any justice yours will be next

15 Apr 2012 21:10

The Seven Stars, Ripley

Hell! I've not experienced such crap service in years. the barmaid just about acknowledged our party of 5 but didnt deign to serve us,after an interminable wait we were just about to walk out when another barmaid managed to tell us that the kitchen was closed but if we wanted a drink we had half hour before the pub closed. Needless to say we headed for the door and spent our 50 quid at a more welcoming hostelry

15 Apr 2012 20:56

Plough Inn, Sipson

Mrs Pooh come on own up, you arent a customer are you? A little bit of England? Are you sure? Its a good pub and its very well run but its ASIAN!! Service, food ambience all excellent

12 Apr 2012 19:11

The Herbert Wells, Woking

A good 'spoons but the service is definitely below par. Tip for the manager; if its getting busy put more staff out reduce a little resentment and agitation

12 Apr 2012 19:07

The Rowbarge Hotel, St Johns

Dont be fooled by that traditional rustic exterior, inside is a traditionalists nightmare, all bare boards and minimalist art. Wheres the comfortable chairs and log fires? Sorry but not my cup of tea but I cannot fault the bar staff. Barmaid changed my pint without any prompting from me! Thanks babe but it goodbye from me

12 Apr 2012 19:01

The New Inn, Talgarth

Stayed for two nights whilst exploring the beacons and the only plus was the price of the room. Its run by Thais and maybe running pubs is not their forte. They wouldnt know a real ale if they fell in a vat of it. Too much talking and laughing in their own language made me very uncomfortable. Room was clean and breakfast was plentiful so not all bad but I couldnt in all honesty recommend this pub.

25 Aug 2011 19:52

The Ten Bells, Shoreditch

Went early in the evening so this place had all the atmosphere of a morgue which wasnt helped by the surly Irishman behind the bar. Nice decor though but dont tell me those tiles are from victorian times they didnt have punk rockers then!

18 Aug 2011 10:07

INDO, Whitechapel

Went in early evening so missed the crowds but still a good atmosphere. All age groups mixing well, quirky bar staff, was he really wearing his pyjamas behind the bar? Contrary to previous comments the prices are competitive for a london boozer. 3.50 for a pint of bombardier I can just about stand. Good place I loved it.

18 Aug 2011 10:00

Owen's Bar, Southsea

First visit yesterday and despite the fact that there was not a single ale on I could see potential in this place. Cheapish prices and filled with salt of the earth customers. Unfortunately they cranked up the sound system too early in the evening therefore making conversation impossible. So one pint of lager(ugh) and on to the next watering hole.

17 Aug 2011 10:43

The White Horse, Longford

Ticks all the right boxes; well kept beers, exotic eastern european barmaids, quaint premises etc. but if they think it is reasonable to charge 3.90 for a pint of bitter or 15 for a burger and chips then they will have to do without my custom because I feel like I've just been raped.

15 Aug 2011 21:59

The Swan, Farnborough

Popped in for a rare visit on Sunday and was pleasantly greeted by live music! Not top notch but the old bird didnt have a bad voice and it assuages some of the pain caused by the bar prices. Barmaids were plentiful and very efficient and not bad to look at either. I will be back.

19 Jul 2011 14:54

The Keep, Guildford

Looks great from the outside but my first ever visit was not a success. Walked in and was a little surprised by what I saw. Not my idea of a traditional pub but what sealed it for me was the fact that there was no one manning the bar, a definite no-no for me. Quick look round then back out that door!

24 Jun 2011 18:55

The Kings Head, Guildford

First ever visit today. Pleasant enough experience but am I the only one who is not over keen on student bar staff? They may be drinkers but the female variety know absolutely nothing about beer. But over all not a bad pub, OK on a sunny day to sit on the patio.

24 Jun 2011 18:49

The Star Inn, Guildford

Is this the best pub in Guildford? Probably.

22 Jun 2011 16:20

The Three Pigeons, Guildford

Do these pubs deserve to stay open? Everything about it is good, traditional look, beer well kept etc. but the prices are ridiculous. If I have to frequent only Spoons from now on so be it.

22 Jun 2011 16:19

The Lamb, Farnham

Good little pub. Landlord knows his business and does everything right, ie well kept beer, clean toilets and of course a friendly welcome

22 Jun 2011 16:09

The Crown Hotel, Chertsey

Dont even do the quiz any more. Price of beer is outrageous. Its all very well giving offers on the food but we're drinkers not eaters so its goodbye to the Crown its been fun.

22 Jun 2011 14:32

The Red, White and Blue, Southsea

Had to go in with a name like that. Could be a good little pub but my pint of HSB wasnt all that. Must do better

22 Jun 2011 14:24

Wheat Sheaf Public House, Farnham

what more do you want from a pub, good beer, room to move, and oh yeah, a blonde buxom barmaid. Very nice.

22 Jun 2011 14:19

The Hop Blossom, Farnham

yeah sure its a great little pub but strewth, the prices! How can anyone justify 3.90 for a pint of bitter. If this is the future I'm going to have to get a new hobby
