The Tynllidiart Arms, Capel Bangor

Went for lunch, food excellent - obviously home made/cooked, beer good (Wye Valley) and staff friendly and helpful. Pity the brewery isn't operating but otherwise, top marks.

The Bold Forester, Sarisbury Green

This used to be a pub that served food, now it's a restaurant that (also) serves beer to people who don't want to eat. Not good beer selection, very expensive, very limited drinking area and very noisy "canned" music. As a drinker, "No thanks."

The Sussex Brewery, Emsworth

Fantastic lunchtime venue. Good ales and great English (Sussex) sausages, a winning mix especially when served by such friendly staff. Plus, in winter, the lovely pong of a wood fire.

The Hampshire Bowman, Dundridge

Obviously busy at weekends and bank holidays but for a midweek lunch you cannot do better. Excellent ales, love Bowmans, and good food. No mobile phone regime also scores highly. Staff friendly and helpful. One of my favourites.

Fishermans Rest, Titchfield

Used to be a good pub but now is keener to host kiddies' parties, regardless of time of day, and is happy to serve slops from behind (under) the bar in order to maximise profits. Range of beers is good, if boring, but make sure you see it coming from the pump. At least it still has no music or "entertainment" machines.
