The Victoria Inn, Colchester

Remains my favourite pub in the area and, as others have said, it continues to get better and better!

please note that this pub is now called The New Town Tavern and has been for some time.

New Town Tavern, Colchester

This pub has a new manager, Nikki from the Goat and Boot. I have been in twice since she has taken over and both time the place was packed. As for the 'smoking shed', well most places have a place for us degenerate smokers! The most important thing is that the beers are very well kept and there is a good variety. There are plans to rotate the beers which, of course, they can do as a free house. As for druggies, I haven't seen any evidence of them.

The Odd One Out, Colchester

Cracking place. I have used it on and off for the last twenty years or so. It is a one off and, yes, there a rules to observe but that doesn't detract from the great beers and the welcome you get.

Goat and Boot, Colchester

I've been using the G and B for a while now. The staff are welcoming and the beer well looked after. I don't understand the bit about people feeling threatened. The customers are amixed bunch, comprising of ex Foresters customers and locals who have drank there for years. All in all, a good town pub. The only downside is that they are a bit more pricy than some.

The Stockwell, Colchester

The Stockwell is now undergoing a total refurbishment to the point where the outer walls have been stripped back to the laths and the inside has been gutted. I have heard several rumours about what it is going to be. Watch this space.

The Victoria Inn, Colchester

As McIntosh has said, the Victoria has vastly improved since Sheena and Andy have taken it over. It is bright, clean and has a welcoming atmosphere. They now have three real ales on pump which are well looked after. The pub is also hosting various music events, including open mike nights and sets by local artists on Sundays. This pub certainly ticks all my boxes!

This may read a bit like an advert but I can assure readers that it isn't.

Sankey's, Tunbridge Wells

Is this owned by the same Sankey family that had the George and Dragon in Speldhurst?

The Foresters Arms, Colchester

Still much the same, although the Town Watch don't seem to get in there much and they've exchanged the table football for bar billiards.

The Blue Boar, Colchester

This pub is not my personal cup of tea. It does not serve real ale, there have been episodes of anti social behaviour in there in the past.

The British Grenadier, Colchester

A good pub, often frequented by the local CAMRA branch. Consequently beers v. good.
