The Haven Arms, Ealing

Decent pub around the corner from Ealing Broadway and arguably the best pub in Ealing, but when you consider the pubs in Ealing that's not saying a lot.

The real ale on offer was slightly unimaginative: Youngs, Bombardier and Old Specked Hen.

To be honest, I expected a lot more considering its in both CAMRA's Good Beer Guide and its Good Pub Guide.

My rating 6/10, but I am stingy and my expectations were for a 8/10 pub so I feel let down.

Re: The whole Wheatsheaf vs. Haven Arms debate: The Haven Arms does have a better atmosphere and surroundings, but if its the beer your after the Fuller's pub wins (mmmmm...Honey Dew).

The Pride of Spitalfields, Shoreditch

Excellent find just around the corner from Brick Lane. Very welcoming pub which had a good selection of real ales including Brewer's Gold. The Gold was excellent and well kept. Popped in for a swift pint but ended up having five and that was before we had our curry.

Even played Chas and Dave Tottenham songs. Enough said.

Dirty Dick's, Bishopsgate

Perfect place to get a decent pint of Youngs before getting the tube/train home.

The Radnor Arms, Kensington

Well kept beer with two guests as well as Everards's Tiger. Friendly and helpful staff. Good atmosphere and surroundings.

No where near as pretencious as anything else in Kensington.

Enough said.

The Speaker, Westminster

Real find just around the corner from New Scotland Yard. Ale on offer was Young's bitter, Spitfire, Hog's Back's TEA and White Star's Dark Destroyer. The food was also good quality for the price (4 for jacket potato with home made chilli and a good side portion of salad). Will be back.

The Black Lion, Hammersmith

Has a warm and cosy feel inside and the outside appears to be an excellent place to spead a warm sunny evening or bank holiday monday. Its a real shame that when I attended the only ale on offer was London Pride and Bombardier as both guest ales were not available. Even the fosters was off.

The Red Lion and Pineapple, Acton

Typical Weatherspoons with good choice of real ale, foreign beers and cider. Adequate food. Interesting circular bar in the middle of the pub.

Its a shame the service can be hit or miss.
