The Bloomsbury Tavern, Bloomsbury

Had an excellent pint of Masterbrew in this clean cozy pub. Friendly bar staff. Recommended

The Crown and Anchor, Covent Garden

Very busy modern pub, teeming with people. Was surprised that the Young's Bitter I had was in such great shape when it appeared the clientele was nearly all lager drinkers. Worth stopping by for a quick one.

The Cricketers, Greenwich

Was terribly disappointed at this pub. Pint of Flowers Original smelt and tasted of vinegar. Did not like the feel of the place at all.

The Plume of Feathers, Greenwich

Of the many, many pubs I visited during my trip, this one stands out as one of, if not the best. Super friendly staff, Adnams beer was in fabulous shape and food was very good. Really had the 'local' experience and the pub is beautifully appointed. Very highly recommended on your next trip to Greenwich.

Ye Grapes, Mayfair

Nice small cozy pub, beers were fairly good. Had a pint of Boddies Cask which I hadn't seen elsewhere. Worth stopping if if your in the area, but don't go out of your way.

The Nags Head, Covent Garden

I wasn't as impressed with the McMullen's beer as everyone else. Nicely appointed pub, comfortable but can get extremely busy.

The George, Temple

Stopped in because it's one of the few in the area open on weekend evenings. Was very quiet, but for a few stag parties and other tourists like us. Enjoyed good conversation with the manager and the beers were in great shape. Highly recommended.

The Packhorse and Talbot, Chiswick

Fairly large, modern pub, with really good food and well kept Pride and Youngs. I'd certainly stop in again.

The Freemasons Arms, Covent Garden

I found the Shepherd Neame beers to be spot on, though this pub had more of a clubby feel. Plenty of seats, but an open floor plan so it can get loud.

The Lamb, Bloomsbury

I really enjoyed visiting this pub. Quiet, cozy and great pints of Young's. Food was very good too and staff friendly. Worth seeking out for a quiet pint and conversation.

The Globe, Covent Garden

Standard Nicholson's pub. Beer's well kept, decent selection. Gets very busy in evenings and hard to get a seat.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street

Cheapest pint I found in London at 1.70 Make sure you venture to the cellar bar and visit all the different areas of this pub. Sam Smith's beers were excellent.

The Blackfriar, Blackfriars

A must see pub that is just seconds from the tube stop. I liked it so much I went back the next day. Ales are in great form and well kept. Decor is one-of-a-kind. Make sure you stop here for at least one!

The Fox and Anchor, Smithfield

Had to go here for the legendary breakfasts and was not disappointed. Huge portions. Adnams bitter helped me work out the hangover.

The White Horse, Parsons Green

Yes the clientele is pretentious, but I went for the real ales which were all spot on and served by friendly staff. Food is pretty good, but they were out of gravy for the bangers & mash ?!!? I think you can find ales as well kept inside London without having to go as far as Parson's Green.

The Bear and Staff, Leicester Square

Was very crowded which limited my assesment of the pub. Heard many good reviews but it really came off as just another Nicholson's London pub in the end. Great area to people watch.

The Phoenix, Victoria

Only 2 real ales on tap, but the staff was friendly enough and might warrant another stop when busier. Walked in at 19:00 and you would have thought it was last orders. Not much better in the area I guess, but the barmaid was super friendly to recommend some local eateries which was helpful.

The Edgar Wallace, Temple

This fast became my favorite pub on my recent trip to the UK. Real ales are well kept and rotate frequently. Great food and top notch staff. I hope a high rating doesn't ruin a good thing as this is a well kept gem. Real Ale aficionados will NOT be disappointed. Just steps from Temple tube stop it is worth the extra effort to stop in.

The Cheshire Cheese, Temple

I too agree with Jeff. Stopped in twice to this nice cozy pub. Bombardier was in good shape, but a few guests were a bit off. Landlord was very nice gent and more should be as nice to US tourists. If the beers were better kept this would be a 10/10, alas this rates a bit lower. Entire staff was very friendly and this should rate a stop if you are in the area.

The Coal Hole, Strand

Revisited in August from my last trip to the UK in 97. Typical Nicholson's beers (London Pride, Green King IPA, Taylor Landord & Adnams Bitter). Had a fairly dear pint of Landlord that was in pretty good shape. Much better pubs in the area (The George, Edgar Wallace).

The Cove, Covent Garden

Entered the Cove at 11:01 a.m. for my first pint after a long trans-Atlantic flight. Barman was extremely friendly, pouring tasters of all 2 real ales (St. Austells' Tribure & HSD and Skinner's Betty Stogs and Cornish Knocker). Opted for the Tribute which was fairly good. Cornish pasties were great. Worth a look if your hanging around the 'garden'.
