The Alma, Crystal Palace

Great pub. Good music, chilled vibe, decent beer. Live band nights are definitely worth checking out.

The Raven, Stamford Brook

Trying to appeal to a slightly trendier crowd than most pubs in the area, so expect to pay a little more than you're used to. Good range of beers and wines, food is excellent but service is consistently poor. Decor and atmosphere are good; I've rated this pub 7/10 but if they could sort out their abysmal table service they would hit an 8.

The Packhorse and Talbot, Chiswick

You get what you pay for in Chiswick, and this pub is a perfect example. It's cheap, cheerful, great for watching a game of footie. Food is average and a little overpriced, but hey, we're in W4 so you're going to pay a little extra. Don't come here expecting miracles and you won't be disappointed - this is a large, corporate, pleasant pub which is good for a cheap pint.

The Pitcher and Piano, Richmond

Excellent location but poor service and horribly overcrowded in the summer. "Barbecue" is overpriced and poor quality and should be avoided.

The White Cross, Richmond

Good selection of beers and nice terrace for river views. Food is basic but adequate. Decent atmosphere in the hot summer months but very quiet at other times of the year. However I must agree with the other reviewers that the landlord tends to be a little aggressive. Perhaps he's had to deal with too many kids from the private schools down the road getting drunk and falling in the Thames.

The Jazz After Dark, Soho

Nice bar but expensive for music and drinks - we were surprised to be asked for 10 in order to stay in the bar and listen to the music.

The Tabard, Turnham Green

Very nice pub with good quality beer and decent prices. Pleasant atmosphere and quieter/more relaxed than the big pubs on Chiswick High Road. Go here for a quiet drink rather than a big night out.

The Sheepwalk Tavern, Acton

Traditional back street boozer. Cheap and cheerful. Could do with serving evening bar food but otherwise nice enough. Not as scary as it looks from the outside.

The Rocket, Acton

Food is excellent but this pub is let down by it's staff. Waitresses do not know specials or ingredients of their food, and bar staff have no idea how to pour a pint. The Rocket also remains woefully overpriced for the area.

The Red Lion and Pineapple, Acton

Typical Weatherspoons pub - big, brash, cheap and cheerful. Beer and food are adequate and Sunday roast will fill you up till Tuesday. Low beer prices make up for slow service from the rare and endangered barmen. Lots of sportswear and mentals in here.

The Puzzle, Acton

Good beer and decent food although not recommended on a rugby day unless you're a loud antipodean...

The Duke Of York, Acton

Decent enough old man pub with sky sports to catch the footie. Beer is good and fairly priced but food is a little disappointing as it is only served up till 6pm. Good atmosphere and very traditional with a nice beer garden out the back.

The Churchfield, Acton

Prices have increased since my last review (August 2005) and happy hour is now just one hour, but this is still the best pub in the area for quality of food/drinks and service. Good selection of beers including European and Belgian bottled beers, Staropramen, Leffe, Artois Bock. Pub quiz on alternate Tuesdays with cash & drinks as prizes.

Bar food is good quality if a little expensive. House wine is drinkable at around 12 per bottle.

The Albion, Acton

The kind of pub where you go in through the door and out through the window. A fierce mongrel stalks the door, looking for any non-regulars daring to venture inside this frightening venue. Cheap but not very cheerful. Regularly frequented by members of the Hollyoaks cast (yet another reason to avoid this pub). Try the Churchfield over the road for a much more friendly service.
