The New Crown, Southgate

Average Spoons, agree with half tuppence, staff are very slow at serving. I was waiting to be served, and then the barmaid started up a conversation with someone next to me she had just served.

The Worlds End, Camden

Extremely rude staff, I asked for a couple of drinks, to which she replied "I aint serving you" despite being being friendly and courteous. Just to add, I was in there a year ago, a brunette if I recall.

La Zeez, North Finchley

It has reopened as an Asian restaurant and bar. Outside the scaffolding is still up. Went past a week ago, it was dead, with plenty of staff to be seen. Lots of colourful walls and sofas. Hmm, might pop in for a quick one next time I go past.

O'Neills, Richmond

Ok pub, nothing special to say about it. When are they going to sort out fly problem in gents? Have been going there 6 months, and when I pointed it out to manager [bald bloke, glasses] he just said " I'll go in with the fly spray in a minute". Handy for the station, and the girlfriend works round corner, thats its only saving grace, oh and its cheap.

The Duke, Richmond

Re-iterate what has been said, its a dining area with a pub tacked onto it. As to the toilets, whats that about, looks like some Aztec line drawings. for guidance, Men take the left, Women the right. I was a bit peeved their was no hand dryer or paper towels to dry your hands, especially as I was charged 13 for two double vodkas. Staff were ok, but nothing special. Really cant see myself going back.

La Zeez, North Finchley

Yeah the windows are covered with newspaper when I went past today. Was in there a month ago. Manager said the place was making nothing, not a surprise.

The Crosse Keys, Bank

Good usual spoons, beautiful building.

The Gregorian, Bermondsey

Average boozer, nothing special about it. Always empty when I go there, which is mainly late afternoon. Pub for having 1 or 2 in before you go somewhere better.

Quinn's, Camden

Nice pub, but badly let down by the staff. The Mexican is well meaning, but ineffectual. The old guy and girl, no offence should retire. I found him reasonably pleasant, but he was struggling to serve a queue of two people. I would hate to see it when its busy. They charge a 50p surcharge if you pay by card, which isnt extortionate, but due to the proliferation of pubs in the area, I dont think they are doing themselves any favours. Maybe I went there on a bad day, might pop back later in the year.

The Lion, Archway

Average pub, but badly let down by the stench of piss that hits you like a tsunami when you walk through the door. Never again will I go there until the place has had a wipe with a rag and some Jeyes fluid.

The Boston Arms, Tufnell Park

Ok average boozer.

9 May 2009 09:20

The Exmouth Arms, Euston

The smoke/smell of chip fat is a real turn off. Staff are ok, nothing special.

The Pride of Pimlico, Pimlico

Nice friendly boozer, recommend. Good landlord.

The China Hall, Surrey Quays

Nice average boozer, recommend for a visit.

The Gatehouse, Highgate

Best Spoons I have been in, and I have been in a fair few. Food is standard JDW, staff are good, nice pub. Young and old alike, no plebs about either.

The Flask, Highgate

This place is so dark!!!!!

Very average pub, nothing special about it. The Spoons 2 minutes up the road is miles better.

5 Jan 2009 14:46

La Zeez, North Finchley

I think someone was having a laugh Grecian, saying it was closed, unless it was temporary [hopefully the toilet was fixed during the closure]

5 Jan 2009 14:22

Pommelers Rest, Tower Bridge

Slightly above average Spoons, recommended.

5 Jan 2009 14:16

The Mudlark, London Bridge

Irish bloke behind bar...is he the Landlord? Very rude bloke. Not a great pub, thinks it is better than it is.

The Elephant Inn, North Finchley

Nice pub, best in N12, but there aint much competition!

La Zeez, North Finchley

Walked past it tonight, a message written in biro was stuck to the door saying it has closed down...it then tells people to go to the Spoons opposite!!!!

With a business ethic like that, it is no surprise it has folded. Place was always empty, eerily so. I wouldnt say the staff were rude, they just seemed bored and fed up. Seemed to run on a skeleton staff.

Food and drink were ok, the emptiness was good if you wanted a quiet couple with a mate, but no atmosphere. Toilet never worked!!!!

Thankfully never saw the DJ, but went past it on a few fridays, and I agree with the other posters that it just encouraged the lowlifes of North Finchley.

With the spoons 1 minute walk to the left and an O 'Neills 1 minute walk to the right, it was doomed to failure. Not that they are great pubs. Best pub in N12 is the Elephant Inn.

The Tyburn, Marble Arch

Forgot to say, the place is always very full, though cheap drink and on a main shopping street....not a surprise.

The Tyburn, Marble Arch

Have been here about four times, on three visits the fire alarms went off.

Typical spoons, cheap food and drink. I agree with the poster about the toilets, you need a compass and map to find them if your new to the place or pissed.

The Gallery, Hendon

Went there on a friday afternoon, staff friendly enough, toilets immaculate, food looks good but didnt try any. Drink prices are a touch expensive. Good average boozer.

5 Jul 2008 01:47

The Chequers, Hendon

Ok pub. Staff not very friendly, lots of chavvies about and a fight over a girl. Apart from that, average boozer.

The Old White Lion, East Finchley

This has to be the worst pub I have ever been in!!

Toilets were overflowing and covered with graffiti.

I went to the bar, barman was incredibly slow, any slower and he would have been clinically dead, He didnt seem to be new. Few punters in front of me so waited my turn.

He then served people who arrived after me, the first one I let drop, when he served a second person, my protests were ignored. He then served this person a white wine, first glass was filthy, as was the second. When he pulled a third dirty glass from under the counter, I tapped my mate's shoulder and said lets go.

Maybe it was a bad time, but I wont be going back there.

The Edinboro Castle, Camden

Went there a few months back.

Pub garden was VERY busy, staff quite slow, I wonder why some of the staff decided to apply for a job there! Food is average [and it aint cheap!]

Has the prettiest barmaids I have ever seen, really sweet girls.

Good mix of clientele, toilets are clean.

Would only really go there in the summer, as the garden is the main pulling factor, as other posters have said.

The Catcher in the Rye, Finchley

Nice pub, as to the food, only ever had sandwiches here [Sausage and Red Onion] which were delicious.

Not expensive, but certainly not a Spoons!

Staff are good, last time I went there, lovely bloke served me, very friendly and approachable.

Toilets are nice and clean.

Good mix of clientele, Finchley's well heeled set, along with us more normal types.

Recommended.

The Angel, Angel, Islington

This is the pub I go to the most often.

Why? Well its a spoons, so its cheap and cheerful, staff are good/very good [Where has the Welsh manager gone? She was great!] Food is average!!

Yeah, you get a few lost souls coming in [mainly the black guy with the tache, but he is harmless and bothers no one, even smiles occasionally!]

Only thing I dont like, is that the toilets are not cleaned regularly, so you might have to stand next to a puddle of pee when you go to the loo. Also you get a few arsehole McKenzie wearing "yoofs" come in . Very student orientated, have never seen trouble in there, and I have been going for years.
