The Lord Nelson, Isle of Dogs

I agree with Rex, nice place on the inside has got a pool table which is well positioned so you're not knocking into people all the time. Drink selection was ok. All in all a good pub.

Beduin Bar, Clerkenwell

Musty smell in the bathroom and somewhat over priced for what you're getting (even in London)

The Mulberry Bush, Lambeth

Typical Youngs pub, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. We went with a group of about 10 or 15 people, granted the place was busy, the first few of us were able to order food but due to excessive numbers that was all they allowed us! They then closed the kitchen, so the people without food had to watch those with food eat.

I opted for chilli in a bowl with bread. What I got was chilli "soup" which was basically chilli with lots of liquid and few pieces of warmed up baguette. Not very impressed

The Slaughtered Lamb, Clerkenwell

The basement venue for music is fantastic, really 'warm' feel to it. The acts that we saw were fantastic and the acoustics were great.

The beer choice was a little more varied than the norm as they even had Brooklyn lager available! I hope they get a few more obscure beers as it would go nicely with the clientele. All in all a decent venue.

Zero Degrees, Bristol

Great locations with great views across the city. The beer is different in a good way, and everybody that goes here should defininetly try the sampler that they have to find something they like.

The service was fine and the food was standard, gets busy quickly on Fridays so arrive as early as poss if you can.

The Halfway House, Barnes

A lovely pub, off the main road so you'll have to look for it. The pub really does try and punch well above their own weight with the variety of offerings they have. We visited on a Wednesday night and were treated to some live Jazz...very entertaining. Slightly more choice of beer then you generally get and the staff run by a jovial landlord are a treat. Worth a visit.

The Angel, Rotherhithe

Great views across the water, though the bar set up is kind of odd. Nothing really of great note. The Sam Smiths that PadtheSaint talks about are find but don't make a trip especially for them.

The Old Duke, Bristol

The staff here have gone downhill, which is a great shame as the place itself is legendary.

The quality of the music has always been fantastic when I've been here. And the varied mix of people it draws never ceases to amaze me: both young and old.

I have to give it a 7 because they currently need to iron out a few staffing problems, a few years ago I would have given it top marks.

The Porterhouse, Covent Garden

I hate to admit it but I like this place, its fun wantering around the multiple levels to find a spot. The beers are great I thought, my favourite was the Oyster stout though you couldn't drink too many of them.

The Knights Templar, Chancery Lane

Yep it is a W'spoons but the decor is nice and it worth going and looking at that. Only a 5 though as not much else to look at :(

The Mash Bar, Oxford Circus

A good place if you just go for the beer, the Winter beer was my favourite but the others are equally tasty.

I would recommend going early and getting in for free. It eventually get pretty busy and they then start to play music.

Service is okay-ish, though we stopped from buying a round of drinks by the waitress (we thought it was a favour) but they then charged us 75p for the privelege. Go for the beer though!

The Bedford, Balham

You can agree and disagree with most of the reviewers comments, enter into the first bar and yes it does need a bit of a paint job and is pretty non descript. But venture further in to the concert room for the live acoustic and FREE! music and you are in for a real treat.

I've give them an 8 as the quality of the acts they have come through really is top notch.

THE Distillers, Hammersmith

They seem to be caught between a old world feel and modern decor, it is pretty non descript and the beer is quite expensive.

They do have live music, which counts for a lot.

The Rose, Vauxhall

Thought this was going to be a pricey place as the decor suggests that, however they have some great drinks specials (half price pitchers) at the beginning of the week. Service was excellent and the attention to detail in making the cocktails was amazing. I highly recommend the Mojito and Bloody Marys there. All in all a very nice place.

Arc Bar, Bristol

It is a fun place, but can get quite crowded if you want to have a bit of a boogie. The bouncers (as you'll find most places in Bristol) are quite uncompromising.

Lord John, Stroud

A typical Wetherspoons with all of the normal townie people. It is rough and ready but then again it is cheap!

Maybe have a quick pint here, but then head off to the other pubs.

The Cock and Hen, Fulham

A great pub, I'm suprised there are no reviews on this yet. They brew their own beer (light and dark) which is fantastic and they a wide variety of others from around the world. The staff have got a quirky air about them and the service is almost American! (GREAT!)

30 Jan 2008 09:37

The Grapes, Limehouse

Great pub, the food is wonderful (prices are on par with the quality of the food - which is great).

Not sure if they have American owners but there is certainly a great service ethic from all of the staff that we come across.

It is a small place, but even if you have standing room its fun to look across the water.

The Gun, Coldharbour

Free wifi and some good beers on tap. The location just makes it worthwhile (overlooking the O2). But I would agree with the other reviewers, they have a problem working out whether they are a pub or restaurant

The Kings Head, France Lynch

A fantastic place, I never seem to be able to find it negotiating around the lanes in Chalford but definitely worth the trek there. Log fire and decent beers.
My only criticsm would be that there is a bit of local clique so outsiders are noticed.

30 Jan 2008 09:25

The Green Man, Great Portland Street

Slightly pricey, but a good selection of beers made up for that. Staff were great, I even managed to leave my bag there and come back the next day to be returned it by the staff.

The Greenwich Pensioner, Poplar

Looks great (on the outside). However, same old same old beers: Stella, Fosters, Guiness and quite bad bright lighting don't make it a welcoming place.

It is family orientated, but don't expect to go for quiet pint. Children run around (relations of the owner) and toys are strewn across the tables. The paradox of this is the risque posters on the wall.

Run by the ex-owners of the Brunswick (which closed):
an odd place, I would suggest passing this one by.
