The Free Trade Inn, Byker

Visited August 2014. Lots of great beers, friendly staff, free jukebox, & fabulous views. Very tatty but who cares when everything else is so good!So good that we went back twice in 24 hours! And within short walking distance of very cheap premier inn/travel lodge hotels if you want an overnight stay in a great city.

Cafe Royal, Edinburgh

Visited August 2014. Despite being very busy, quick service. Amazing interior, 7 ales on, all well kept, and friendly staff. Lots of tourists trying the ales, guided by a knowledgeable barman. Would def go back if we are in Edinburgh again.

The Guildford Arms, Edinburgh

Visited August 2014 - lovely pub, great surroundings, friendly staff and 8 real ales on, all good quality. Definitely worth a visit.

The Red Lion Hotel, Cromer

6, constantly changing local ales on, all kept to a high standard. Spent a very pleasant few hours in here, enjoying the sea views. Staff were generally ok but there was one exceptional lad who was really friendly and helpful to everyone. Gets very busy in the evening with people eating so probably best to book in advance.

The Red Lion, St James

Arrived about 2.15 and it was still quite busy, got a seat in the little section behind the bar. Worth a visit just to see the Victorian glass panels/mirrors. Quite a few bar staff on but they were not in a hurry to serve or collect glasses as they were too busy chatting. 4 Fullers beers on, we had ESB & Discovery which were both fine. Got the impression that the manager was struggling with staff as he was having a go about all the dirty glasses piled up on bar, and when I told a barmaid that the ladies was flooded and had water coming through the light fitting she just shrugged, but manager came straight over and thanked me for letting them know. Change of staff and it would be a very pleasant place to spend a few hours.

The Coach and Horses, Mayfair

Really friendly, helpful barmaid, 4 beers on including one of the 'Madness' range which made a change.Very good pint of London Pride. Very small seating area downstairs but not a problem as we stood outside in the sun.

The Windmill, Mayfair

Arrived at lunchtime, was very busy, full of suits as you would expect in this area, but we managed to find a table. Bar staff very efficient and quick, had a nice pint of Youngs Special, 3 other beers on. Would go back at a quieter time.

The Clarence, Mayfair

Awful pub! No atmosphere, boring decor/layout, 3 beers on, & barman too busy looking at himself in the mirrors and doing his hair to serve you! Heard two other customers saying 'this is a bit grim' which sums it up. I got served a pint of beer flavoured water, literally... They had been cleaning out the pipes and hadn't taken the pump off! When I took it back, the preening barman said 'oh yes, I thought there was something wrong with that' but no apology........ makes me cross as there were a few tourists in there and they would't have known that was not how it was supposed to taste! We went in about 3 and although it was quite quiet, a lot of the tables were still full of lunch debris. Why this place is in TGBG I have no idea......
