The Essex Arms, Brentwood

Went back there today, and all of my expectations lived up to the mark, had the best Sunday lunch ever, real roast potatoe's, homemade yorkshire puddings, and the Beef was to die for, 2 pints of Doom Bar, sunday papers and the fottie on the big tv's was great.

The Two Brewers, Clapham

Thought the place was a sh-t hole, beer quality poor, over priced drinks, rude staff, and toilets that smel like a swap. Cabaret, although generally good, but can tend to be a bit predictive, I know it's Clapham and shabby chic, but shabby is about right.

Comptons Of Soho, Soho

Has to be the most unpleasent experience you could ever wish to be in, exspensive drinks range which is very limited to bargain basement boose from tesco's, draught beer that give's you the s--ts, because they are so drug fu-ked they can't be bothered to clean there line's properly, I have never come across so many bar staff with so much attitude, get over yourselves, tops off or not you all probably have tiny cocks anyway, your are on minimum wage you bunch of fuc--ng tossers. As I predicted 15years ago bars are now more poly A sexual, open to everyone, far more interesting is it to be chatting to some blond rugby type hunk, than exchanging make up tips with some freak in a policemans outfit. GET OVER YOURSELVES.

I visited this pub a few times over the years, and I must say it now has the WOW factor. They have had a majour refurbisment and what a fantastic job they have done, It looks stunning as you walk up from the Station, new toilets, furniture and faboulous colours on the walls, gone is the dredfull pool table (hooray) funky seating, windows you can see out and in from, a great Sunday Homemade lunch, food available all week. six real ales including Doom bar, london pride, Courage best, Breakspear, Youngs bitter and greene king IPA, , an extnsive range of Lagers and ciders. A special range of some fantastic whiskies, Gin and Vodka's not to mention the Naga Chilli Vodka challenge. Full Sky tv pacage showing all the majour sporting events An outside Patio area with an out door TV. The Seaxe bar looks stunning with picture's of some of the greats in the music world and instuments on the walls. The atmosphere is really freindly and the bar service great. If you have not been yet I would well reccomend it. Great Pub.

Tamar Hotel, Crownhill

I know that the Tamar is not a weatherspoons, but the chain has had an enourmous impact on the demise of the great British Pub!!

Tamar Hotel, Crownhill

Moved away from Plymouth back in 1999, I used to drink in here as long ago as 1977, I lived locally then, Don & Peggy Vadacorte, ( think I spelt it right) had it then, this is in the day when 42 comando where based at Seaton barracks and Crownhill fort was stationed by a logistics regiment I think? also Manadon Royal Naval engineering college was on the doorstep, Great times then, pubs used to close at 2.30 in the afternoon and reopen at 6pm, 2pm on a Sunday and reopen @ 7pm in the evening, The Tamar also had a snug in those days with off sales selling every thing from fags to sweets to draught sherry, you could top any bottle you took in. As with most pubs in that era there was a seperate saloon bar from a Lounge bar, the lounge bar being about 2pence dearer for drinks than the saloon bar because it had carpet & curtains. The only food offer in those days was one of Peggy's sandwhiches or a pasty or pie from the back bar pie warmer, I honestly belive that pubs where far better places then than they will ever be today, you had some great characters in pubs in those days , when it was sky, pool tabe free, and what ever happened to the rattle of Dominoes and the graet craic!

The Crooked Billet, Clapton

Part of the Jack Beards group, this pub has had a running succession of managers who don't stick around that long. Popped in there this week and there is a new manager who's been in the trade for years and seems to know his stuff, already stopping the freeloader's on match days by charging on the door with redeemable bar tokens, this has stoped all the crap from getting in.
I understand from talking to him the kitchen will be up and running soon with food available.
I know he has plans to launch regular entertainment, quiz's, Karaoke, caberet acts etc.
A good eastend boozer with great beer and real ale comming soon!, friendly, if not loud on Arsenal match days, well worth a visit and definatley one to watch.
