Revolution, Nottingham

Ghastly place.

The Hand and Heart, Nottingham

I checked out this place last night. It's great seeing this huge cave being used to its full potential, after being run down for years. The new owners have done a good job. Five real ales on, the three I tried were absolutely spot on. There is a gallery and cafe upstairs, and Joe's Musical Circus has relocated here, every Wednesday. Yes there is the sort of musty smell you would expect from being in a large sandstone cave. Forget the Trip, come here

The Lion, New Basford

Beer quality has been consistently good of late - Tree returning seems to have made all the difference. Lovely new wooden floor. All the beers at the St George's beer festival were absolutely lovely. Highly recommended

The Pilgrims Progress, Bedford

I found this pub while staying the night in Bedford. Was served stale beer by youths who didn't know what they were doing. Unpleasant drunks were near the back entrance. Such a shame

The Flowerpot, Derby

beer selection and quality excellent again. Rating remains 10/10. There is a festival at the end of March featuring 160 brand new bers, with live music - I'm goig!

The Lion, New Basford

Beer quality seems to have gone down definitely since my last review.

The Barley Mow Inn, Kirk Ireton

Lovely traditional unspoilt pub. The four ales are seved from barrels through a hatch in the bar. Beamed ceiling, and what looked like a huge log fire - I must return in the winter. It's next to the post office, and sometimes gives the impression that it's closed when it's not - don't worry. All pubs should be like this!!

The Fox and Crown, Basford

Just been to their beer festival - they had a very impressive selection from new breweries all in excellent condition. The Alacazar Brewery is attached to the pub, the 8% stout, previously only available in bottled form, is now available on draught and is absolutely delicious. Haven't tried the thai food, though their pizzas are delicious

The Bell Inn, Nottingham

Lovely pub with several rooms. The beer was absolutely superb tonight. Good atmosphere and live music - what more could you want. The atmosphere in the smaller rooms is completely different, which is part of its charm

The Brunswick Inn, Derby

Just been to their beer festival. They've got a new cherry beer out called Tickets Please, and it's just delicious! It's just bursting out all over with cherries - It's heaven sent - a gift from the gods!

The Yorkshire Bridge Inn, Bamford

Very welcoming pub after a 10 mile walk round Lady Bower. The Golden Pippin and the IPA were both very nice

Little John Hotel, Hathersage

Always my favourite pub in Hathersage - ales kept and served to perfection, and good food with portions that are absolutely huge. Combine this with a generally friendly and welcome atmosphere and you can't go wrong

The Coach and Horses, Norwich

Really nice pub with an adjoining brewery (Chalk Hill). They had I think 5 Chalk Hill beers on tap - the CHB was very tasty. The pub was deservedly popular, with a good crowd around the outside tables on a warm evening. And I love the signs - Drinking Consultants!!

O'Neills, Reading

Will we have '00s theme pubs in 20 years time with inflatable sudoku grids hanging from the ceiling - eek!
Bouncers were friendly, though a bit too much bravado inside for my liking

The Brunswick Inn, Derby

Victorian pub at the iron end of a row of cottages - I think grade 2 listed. Wonderful range of ales brewed on the premises plus guests from other small independent breweries - I think at least 13 in total. There are two upstairs rooms that occasionally host live music. It's possibly lost some of its dingy magic since Everards took over , but it's still highly recommended

The Falstaff, Derby

Brewpub in a back street off Normanton Road. Serves all of Falstaff's excellent ales in superb condition. Plenty of friendly banter with the locals

9 Jul 2006 00:42

The Flowerpot, Derby

This superb pub has a wall of casks at the back. Usually only 6 are tapped, but tonight most were - they must have had 30 ales on in total. There are several rooms, with a large room with a separate bar at the back for gigs (mostly tribute bands, although they have had Arthur Brown and Midge Ure in the past)

9 Jul 2006 00:30

The Babington Arms, Derby

Had the full range of Derby beers on, the ones I tried were superb. Don't know if it's the best spoons in the country, but it's certainly the best I've had. Had 17 ales on, food was fine both times I've eaten there

9 Jul 2006 00:23

The Nags Head, Belgravia

I'm glad I fond this pub before and after seeing Roger Waters at Hyde Park. A proper pub, it gave the impression it hadn't changed for decades. It was pretty hot inside, but the solution was simple - take your chair out into the middle of the road

Joseph Else, Nottingham

There are plenty of better pubs in Nottingham City Centre, but there are also plenty of pubs that are far, far worse (i.e Yates). Beer is good value and I've never had a bad pint. Serves coffee whenever they're open, which is nice. However, the service has always been excruciatingly slow. Lacks atmosphere.

The Salutation Inn, Nottingham

Ghost stories abound with this pub, with several small rooms and a door leading to the caves. Open mike on Sundays upstairs, also a pool table with winner stays on rules. The Charles Wells beers I had were OK

29 Jun 2006 00:23

The Sir Charles Napier, Nottingham

Has an open Mike night on Wednesdays in the yard out the back, mainly original material. Mallard Featherlight was absolutely delicious

29 Jun 2006 00:09

The Lion, New Basford

9 ales on last night, every one I had was spot on. Delicious.

24 Jun 2006 00:36

Commercial Inn, Beeston

Nice pub, with folk sessions on a Thursday night. Hardy and Hansons beer wqas surprisingly good

24 Jun 2006 00:29

The County Arms, Reading

A proper local's local, a proper English pub. Pool table with Winner stays on rules. 4 real ales, including on my visit titanic White Star, which was OK

19 May 2006 23:54

Crown Inn, Playhatch

I highly recommend the food - I went for my brother's birthday and it was very very good indeed. 3 Brakspear's beers were on offer as well

19 May 2006 23:50

The Ormidale Hotel, Brodick

I must also recommend the food - the Venison casserole I had was simply delicious. The Folk club meets here on Sunday nights

19 May 2006 21:53

The Vat and Fiddle, Nottingham

Just been to this pub again, and yes it is as excellent as always, with all 4 ales I tried absolutely spot on. This is a proper English pub without any pretensions. First class

19 May 2006 21:50

Harbour Inn, Padstow

I must say I found some of the clientele somewhat unfriendly. for example I was waiting to be served at the bar when someone behind shouted "Are you just standing at the bar or waiting to be served?" I replied, whereupon two people pushed past and insisted on being served first because they were local and I wasn't, giving me all sorts of verbal abuse. Try the Golden Lion or London Inn instead

19 May 2006 21:48

3Bs, Reading

This is a cafe that metamorphoses into a superb bar in the evenings. The 4 real ales were absolutely spot on, from small interesting breweries. great music, great atmosphere, definitely will go again next time I'm in Reading

17 May 2006 21:49

The Victoria Hotel, Beeston

Absolutely excellent pub. Four rooms, an excellent range of beers from interesting breweries, never ever had a beer that wasn't spot on here. Live music on Sunday is highly recommended, as is the Vicfest in July, three weekends with live bands outside from lunchtime to 8 (folk/rock oriented). ah this description is making me thirsty, I think I'll pop over there now...
