Swan Inn, Pontfadog

Far better than the TV would have you believe. Give it a try. Excellent pint of Stonehouse Station bitter this evening.

Griffin Inn, Oswestry

Well-kept Stonehouse Station bitter, at 2.70, and pleasant enough sensibly-priced food made a good Saturday lunchtime experience. Don't know Oswestry very well but Griffin well worth a visit.

The Fish Inn, Ringwood

As good as previous visit. Well kept and served Ringwood and Wadsworth beers. Welcoming staff. Clean inviting place with real fire. One irritating customer but that's pubs. Food looked very good, all locally sourced apparently.

The Red Lion, Boldre

Very good lunchtime experience. I had Brakespear but other ales, (Ringwood) looked equally good. 4.60 for my wife's Peroni, but ales were much more sensibly priced. Food was lovely and not overpriced. Really nice atmosphere, helpful cheery staff and very welcoming fires. Well worth a visit.

Royal Oak, Fritham

A great pub, and I am glad to see that they have maintained the standards. Superb ploughmans, not over-priced considering what we got. 5 beers from the cask today, tested two which were great, others looked very good. Lovely fire. Just wish everyone would close the door- its not difficult and it marred our lunch a little. Sign and door closure needed. All in all a superb pub not to be missed.

The Oak Inn, Lyndhurst

Very good. I agree with all previous recent reviews. High standards are evident in all respects. Excellent staff. Very good beer quality. My only complaint, apart from prices, is that is in danger of being restaurant than pub. They should watch that. I prefer to get my own beer from the bar, not least to check what they are doing, rather than have it waitress -delivered charming and attractive as she was.

The Three Tuns, Bransgore

Ok but pricey food, smallish portions and slightly odd menu. Trading on its previous reputation I think. Beer quality good.

The Coach and Horses, Adderbury

Things have changed a lot here since the last reviews. Licensee doing great job. Cheap well kept range of beers, and cheap simple substantial pub grub. Try it you will not be disappointed. Quirky too.

The Red Lion, Adderbury

Superb old inn. Good beer and food. Cosy old accommodation which can be reasonably priced if you look for one of Old English Inns'' many offers. Manager Derek has recently taken over and is doing a god job (he has managed several local Greene King Inns). You can also walk across the road to the equally good but very different Coach and Horses. Beautiful location too.

The Royal Exchange, Stone

Enjoyed my first visit. Welcoming, refurbished appropriately rather than being spoilt. Very good quality and range of Titanic beers plus others. 5 X 1/3 sample trays a very good idea. Straightforward good pub-food. On the Sunday I called we had 1 dish of tasty casserole and mash, the 1 'donation' going to charity. What a great idea. Cheerful young bar maids who were welcoming, and could actually answer questions about the beer. I intend to go back.

The Cross Keys, Selattyn

This pub is a gem. Everything about the place in fantastic. The atmosphere, the welcome, the timelessness, the beer, the log fire, the characters, the realistic prices, the superb attitude of the locals who go out of their way to greet and include you. On the last two visits we have been given Christmas cake, cheese, and champagne by locals who did not even know us. I love the courtesy and manner of the established landlord and landlady who are extremely friendly to locals and visitors alike. If you appreciate a proper pub, then make the journey. You will not be disappointed and you will not want to leave.

Ship Inn, Tynygongl, Pentraeth

Ridiculously expensive food and drinks but you've just got to go there. Smarmy licencee. Recent staff, young and well-meaning.Don't like table reservation at all.- puts off drinkers which it appears to be the intention. See what you think.

Dixies Arms, Bagthorpe

Well worth a visit. The pub feels old fashioned and interesting. Each time visited we found the locals to be very friendly. Lovely real fire. Dog friendly. Well kept real ales.

The Greyhound Inn, St Martins

The Oddfellows Arms, Nantwich

Recent first visit. Impressed. Obliging licensee.Well kept cask ales.Home cooked food and willingness to cook stuff not on the menu Clean pub too.

The Haunch of Venison, Salisbury

A little disappointed, I have to say, with pub being so highly recommended. Beer only average, and overpriced. Pub extremely cold apart from immediately in front of fire which was fully occupied. The locals were not openly unwelcoming, but on the other hand we did not feel particularly welcome.

The White Hart, Andover

Good Pedigree. Pleasant quietish pub, even on New Years Eve! A value-for-money Christmas/New Year break, in refurbished bedrooms. Very good value chef-cooked food. Obliging staff. Free Wifi handy and effective.

The Town Mills, Andover

Had a better experiences than previous reviewer. Went in pub 3 times over few days staying in Andover. Landlord very friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable about his beers. Tried 4 different ales which were all very good. The food was basic but good in quality and amount. The barmaids were on-the-case and chatted freely to me as a visitor, and not just to the locals as often happens. Yes, the upstairs is basic and slightly tatty, but the music and pool table are catering for the local young folk. Downstairs is very pleasant, great to look out at the mill stream. Don't be put off by the dark, unwelcoming entrance - persevere!

The Mayfly, Chilbolton

Superb location. Good but overpriced beer and food. The food is also portion-controlled.

3 Jan 2010 20:56

The Malet Arms, Newton Tony

A lovely unspoilt character pub. Good beer, well kept and served. Although we did not have food it looked quality, home-cooked and well presented. My only complaint was a Reserved sign on each and every table although the pub was empty. We were put off sitting down and even considering food. The management need to look at this system, which came over as very unwelcoming.

The Broadway, Derby

Ok for cheap offers on passable food in an emergency. Beer just adequate. Staff not particularly endearing.

21 Nov 2009 20:43

Master Locksmith, Derby

Average. Predictable. Serves food till 10.00pm - useful in emergency.

21 Nov 2009 20:38

Paddock, Breadsall

Tacky. No proper beer.

21 Nov 2009 20:35

The Old Yew Tree Inn, South Wingfield

Pub has picked up again. Very obliging staff, capable of pulling a pint correctly. Fabulous Pedigree. Good chef cooked food.

21 Nov 2009 20:30

The Old Oak Inn, Horsley Woodhouse

Very good pub. I agree with all the positive comments. What is really lacking is a chalkboard with the name, strength, price, and description of each beer. -Too much guess-work for a casual visitor, having to drive.

21 Nov 2009 20:24

The White Swan, Ockbrook

Second visit. Lunchtime. Excellent Marstons Pedigree plus other good beers available. Sensibly chosen and priced food, more than adequate portions, tasted chef cooked. Chilli contained pieces of good beef, not mince. Licensee trying hard.

21 Nov 2009 20:14

The Fish Inn, Ringwood

Can't comment on food. Welcoming staff. Fullers London Pride and Ringwood Bitter very good.

1 Nov 2009 18:47

Royal Oak, Fritham

Superb. Loved the location, which is always a good start. A really good choice of excellent beers straight from the cask. Welcoming and well informed staff. Cosy log fires. Will go back to try food, which looked really good.

Plough, Worcester

Great pub. Good beer choice, well kept and keenly priced. In my limited experience of Worcester, the best real ale pub there.

1 Nov 2009 18:32

Ye Olde Talbot, Worcester

Stayed here 3 nights. Accommodation and food quite reasonable. Breakfast good. Disappointed with the beer, quality and choice, especially as adverts everywhere encouraging customers to try beers from the Real Ale Menu this week. Good job there was the Plough to walk to.

1 Nov 2009 18:28

The Fox Inn, Oswestry

No shortage of pubs in Oswestry. If you only visit one go here. Good food and beers. Welcoming.

30 Jan 2007 23:25

The Grapes Hotel, Maentwrog

Always loved this pub, greatly disappointed on last two visits July & August 2006. Food and service deteriorated. Particularly did not like staff attitude.

30 Jan 2007 23:18

The Hand At Llanarmon, Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog

Warm welcome. Well kept beers and interesting lagers. Excellent high quality, locally sourced food but not the place to eat if on a fixed budget.Quality accommodation. Beautiful undiscovered location. Keep the secret to yourself.

30 Jan 2007 23:06

The Nelson Head, Horsey

A gem of a pub, completely unspoilt. Enjoy a pint of Nelson's Revenge.Good food. Fantastic open fire.

30 Jan 2007 22:53

The Reedcutter, Cantley

Really enjoyed recent first visit. Will go again!
Good Sunday Roast, and fine beer all well priced. Welcoming licensee and staff. Smashing location too.

24 Jan 2007 21:28

The Black Horse, Great Linford

Cannot recommend this place. Sorry. Did not like staff attitude. Pricey and no proper beer. Prefered it before.

24 Jan 2007 21:24

The Bell Inn, Smalley

I might be biased because this is my local. The licensee has done a fantastic job. There is always a selection of well kept real ales, competitively priced. The staff are professional and pleasant. It is a safe pub with high standards in all respects. The food is good and not overexpensive. Quality accommodation if required. The acolades are well deserved.

24 Jan 2007 21:14

The Tap and Spile, Bangor

Can't praise this pub and landlord, Dean, too highly. Superb well priced choice of quality real ales, and excellent cheaply priced food. Excellent location and views too.
