The Royal Standard of England, Beaconsfield

Great selection of beers available, both on tap and in bottles. Atmospheric old style pub.

If you want food, reserve a table. Food is good enough to soak up copious amounts of real ale, as long as you don't expect miracles.

Well worth visiting for the beer though.

Bar 38, Maidenhead

By the way this is now called Ivory Lounge.

The White Hart, Holyport

Good locals pub. Good beer.

Food is passable but too expensive for a pub. Eat elsewhere, then have a drink here.

The George On The Green, Holyport

I've drank in worse pubs.

The Belgian Arms, Holyport

Cramped Oldey Worldey pub. Good selection of beers.

Also a restaurant but nothing worth writing home about. Nice view of the village pond mind.

The Hinds Head, Bray-on-Thames

Heston Blumenthal owned bar/restaurant. Expensive at half the price but this should be expected for Bray. Apparently the triple cooked chips are worth trying.

Bar area is a bit cramped.

Brewers Fayre, Maidenhead

Toby Carvery with all of associated chav families/gypsies/pensioners

Boulters Lock Inn, Maidenhead

Great location right on the river. Lovely place to sit and have a drink with a few friends. A few nice beers on tap. Food is on the pricier side, but good quality I thought.

Better in the summer when they have all the doors open upstairs.

The Thames Hotel, Maidenhead

A nice place to sit by in the summer with it's riverside location. Mostly outside seating. Has a small bar with a small selection of fizzy lagers on tap.

Also has a good Italian restaurant inside.

The Bear, Maidenhead

Welcome to the new Bear, same as the old Bear. Now has a rather larger selection of beers on sale, including some nice ales. Shame the bar staff have been recruited from the local brain trauma unit.

Big inside though, with lots of seating. A great place to start off for a few cheaper beers.

The Hobgoblin, Maidenhead

Not bad. Some proper beers on tap. Frequented by and a haven for all the rockers and goths in the local area, good sized outside area which is nice in the summer. Worth a look.

The Hand and Flowers, Maidenhead

Some good ales, didn't think the prices were outrageous compared to elsewhere. Very small inside, especially with the one man band on a sunday night. Worth a visit for a pint of decent beer.

The Bell, Maidenhead

Lots of pool tables and the trouble that comes with that. Does have good beer that is very reasonably priced. Worth a visit.

Bar 38, Maidenhead

Expensive. Does serve some decent beer. Slightly more mature crowd at the weekends, accompanied by loud music. Bit of a poncey cocktail bar really.

BRB The Roof, Maidenhead

This bar is now called Bar Roma. Still feels like you are inside a car park. Beer is pretty decent with a good selection. Never seems busy and has a slightly older clientelle than other pubs in town. Worth a visit.

Que Pasa, Maidenhead

Bad beer and booming music; avoid

Greyhound, Maidenhead

Your standard Wetherspoon (Lloyds Number 1) fare in a town centre. Stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap. Can be nice on a Saturday afternoon as they do serve good real beer, if you don't mind tramp/chav dodging. Friday/Saturday night it is rammed with young revellers, then empty again by 10pm as they go elsewhere.

Bar Soviet, Maidenhead

Chav heaven. Now called Phatz, beer is flat and the floor is sticky. Avoid.

7 Apr 2010 16:55

Noctors, Maidenhead

Some good bands in at the weekends if that's your thing, beer is nothing to rave about, and it's a bit of a regulars' pub. Worth stopping in for a pint though if you are on a crawl :D
