Plough and Anchor, Kingswood

More restaurant than pub, which is a shame as it's (nearly) our local, and would go there more often if it were a bit more "pubby". Owners and staff are all friendly and interested in comments, some of the younger waitresses could do with a little more training, feels like they are working to much to a script at times . Beers are well kept and choice of wine good too. The restaurant area is good but could do with some screens to cut down on the noise: with the hard floor it feels a bit like a works canteen when it's busy. Food is very good however, imaginative, unpretentious and not all "pub grub" . We've always eaten well at the P&A.

The Greyhound Inn, Marsh Gibbon

Been here a couple of times ( most recently without Mrs Pubweasel) . The beer is ok but always the same selection, the place is not unfriendly just a little soul less . Have seen last orders called a 2240 before which was a little disappointing . Not tried to the food but "Thai in Pubs" is a bit overdone in the Vale . Given the competition in MG, could be a real winner.

Stag Inn, Mentmore

Stumbled upon the Stag by chance. Friendly staff, good beer, bar food was good and came quick . Bit expensive but not excessive.

The Gardener's Arms, Oxford

Small and always friendly pub with a nice atmosphere. Often quiet, but beer is good and selection changes between visits. Eaten here once, food was good, often bob back for a pint midweek . Garden out the back gets busy in the summer but a welcome green oasis in the city, where you don't have to sit and watch traffic to enjoy your pint . Old record collection around the walls makes interesting decoration.

The Kings Head, Buckingham

Went on a Friday evening with a band on (great band, as it happens). Beer was good, we both drank IPA and one other ale so not a vast selection, but tasted well kept. The music attracted a young crowd some of whom looked like they were enjoying themselves, we could have stayed longer, would go back. The seats looked comfy. Pool table was getting use. Pub had a friendly crowd and good fast service behind the bar.

The Hop Pole Inn, Aylesbury

Occasional visitors not locals. Beer selection is always good , staff generally friendly . Like below didn't have a problem with Edgar, but the beers better since the new management have taken over . Friendly atmosphere worth going out of your way to visit.

The Butchers Arms, Fringford

Went here recently . Asked about the the guest beer to be told "dunno what it's like" nor offered a brief taste . Staff then had to rush of to find a clean glass to serve a resaonable pint of Adnams. Asked about food 7.30 (in the evening) to be told "not booked, no food", despite plenty of empty tables and only the two of us . Left 50 minutes later with no sign of the deluge of people anticipated after the fully booked comment . Un welcoming, poor attitude and frankly sales prevention service.
Pity as it's a pretty pub in a nice location. Local , won't be back .
