The Farmers Inn, Clarencefield

rude arse of a landlord (as others have said below) sad- since this is a nice wee pub. Only one real ale (despite pub guides saying 3)

when he goes- this will be a good pub.

7 Jun 2010 10:53

Tennents Bar, Glasgow

painted above the bar it reads- "Glasgow's Finest Ale House"... I'm not sure if that is the case- but it is a damn fine Ale house in any case. Large and attractive pub- quite busy- loads of real ale in good condition

7 Jun 2010 10:48

The Pot Still, Glasgow

Attractive pub, 166 malts (very highly priced!), hard to get the barmaid to stop texting and serve us, visited a few years ago and was impressed- this visit though I was very disappointed. (4.25 per measure for Ardbeg 10? You are having a laugh)

7 Jun 2010 10:35

Hengler's Circus, Glasgow

big pub- typical of Spoons. Quite run down, loads of dirty tables and glasses, and completely ignored by the staff.... stood at the bar for about 5 minutes before staff looked at us (there were only about 10 people in the place) ...waited another 7-8 minutes after that for service. Unacceptable!

7 Jun 2010 10:30

The State Bar, Glasgow

very nice wood interior. 7 well kept real ales, good malt selection, Burns quotes around the walls, very good pub.

7 Jun 2010 10:26

The Station Bar, Glasgow

a gem. clean, historic pub. well kept real ale (4 of them) ok malt selection, and a brill staff. Staff wearing shirt and tie, good banter, and kept busy cleaning and stocking when not serving.

7 Jun 2010 10:23

The Three Judges, Partick Cross

a good old one room booser- 6 real ales, 3 real ciders, ale kept in top condition.

7 Jun 2010 10:18

The Horseshoe Bar, Glasgow

a nice historic pub- 4 real ales, ok malt selection, a bit too dark inside... and sadly one pint was cloudy and was was short....

7 Jun 2010 10:16

The Blackfriars, Glasgow

(forgot to add) they also have around 35 malts.

7 Jun 2010 10:13

The Blackfriars, Glasgow

excellent pub- a good 65p LESS per pint than most other Glasgow pubs... great staff- when not serving they were actually working!- cleaning bottles and shelves- not sitting around reading.

5 real ales, 1 real cider, clean, blues music , and a pretty server with black hair- what more could one want?

warning- Google Map has the wrong address and location!

7 Jun 2010 10:12

The Tolbooth Bar, Glasgow

nice old pub- no real ale- somehow able to serve fizzy beer before 11:00am- even though no other pub is serving.... hostile old crowd.

7 Jun 2010 10:05

The Babbity Bowster, Glasgow

a good old pub- nice fire- clean and tidy, 3 real ales. What hurts this pub is the very poor attitude of the barman. We were the only 2 people in the place and he could barely be pulled away from his paper to serve us.

Mulligans, Dumfries

this pub is closed

16 May 2009 12:58

The Village Inn, Arrochar

had a good meal here in Dec 08... oddly the pub is not dog friendly even though it looks like a place that would be, no Real Ale was on either.

Good malt whisky selection- good food and friendly staff.

16 May 2009 12:56

The Old Forge, Inverie

took the ferry from Mallaig- spent most of the day in this great pub..

Sadly no Real Ale is on in the winter- but the staff and owner were very friendly and we had a great lunch- fresh of the boat that morning... the real fire was on and the music was a CD that was recorded live in the Old Forge itself.... a brill day...I could spend several days in this cosy place.

16 May 2009 12:52

The Drovers Inn, Inverarnan

est 1705- frequented by Rob Roy... what a great old pub! Dark, full of old Taxidermy- 2 huge real fires... loads of decor all throughout the place...

we had quite a good lunch- but, sadly they had no Real Ale on... very good malt whisky selection though. The lads working the bar are all in kilts (sadly wearing them too low)

still a great pub- at the top of Loch Lomond- stop in if you are passing by.

16 May 2009 12:48

Woodrow Wilsons, Carlisle

typical wetherspoons- cheap drink and food- not enough staff- bad service and bad attitude...

several good Real ales though...

16 May 2009 12:39

The Howard Arms, Carlisle

Great wee pub- well kept quirky interior and 2 good Real Ales on....

we stayed for several- friendly staff as well.

16 May 2009 12:19

The Kings Head Inn, Carlisle

Third time visiting- but the first time we were served short pints... and the girl behind the bar gave us attitude when we asked for a top up!!!

Two good Real Ales on... not many malt whiskies....

16 May 2009 12:17

The Boardroom, Carlisle

opened an hour later than the sign said outside- nice place- clean and quiet (in the afternoon) only one Real Ale was on whilst we were there.

16 May 2009 12:14

The Buccleuch and Queensberry Hotel, Thornhill

oops- soory- I searched for Queensberry in Dumfries and this pub came up...

my comments are for the Queensberry Hotel in Dumfries- not Thornhill

If I can figure out hoe to delete the review I will

20 Apr 2009 14:21

The Buccleuch and Queensberry Hotel, Thornhill

oh.. and they do not have any real ales at all...

20 Apr 2009 14:18

The Buccleuch and Queensberry Hotel, Thornhill

the worst meal I've had in a pub...

and the service was non-existent...

bad service, short pints, bad microwaved food...

skip this one...

shame the new landlords re-did the place to make it look nice... but it isnae!

20 Apr 2009 13:53

The Waverly Bar, Dumfries

this pub keeps getting better!

outside smoking area is covered, heated, and even has a telly!

a younger co-manager is bringing in a younger crowd to this local pub... the mix of folk is good, lively and friendly...

not much of a beer selection, a few malts...

dog friendly...

bar food (not very good- but quick and you can eat there with your dog at your feet)

near the station- if you want a quick drink before a train- this is the place...

31 Dec 2008 11:01

18 Nov 2007 10:52

The Granary, Dumfries

very young noisy crowd in the evenings

most are too drunk and hostile

the place is actually a great building- well layed out and appointed...

tons of screens for sport and music- a overly loud sound system... usually good service

and surprisingly; a good place for a quiet lunch in the afternoon- the food is good,

18 Nov 2007 10:46

Robert The Bruce, Dumfries

update

for a Weatherspoons I guess this rates pretty high-

for a normal pub it is pretty bad though

horrible service- not enough staff working in the first place- 20 minutes to get a pint... amazing how the owners do not see that putting on more staff would actually make them more money...

If you want cheap beer- cheap bad food- terrible service- then this is the place for you

not very friendly people or staff...

almost no malts...

popular- but I have no idea why....

not dog friendly...

18 Nov 2007 10:44

18 Nov 2007 09:52

The Hole I' The Wa', Dumfries

update-

smoking ban has made this classic historical pub even better.... large smoking patio out the back...

est. 1620 this is an old gem...

called "Hole i' the Wa' because in 17th century women were not allowed in the pub and so they had to be served their pints through a "hole in the wall"...

19 Mar 2006 13:32

Slipstream, Dumfries

medium sized place... pretty attractive bar staff.... friendly...

strange decor... a bit like it was a traditional pub and they "updated" it in the late 70's... there are some funky mirrors on a couple of walls...
