The Boathouse, Falmouth

Got stuck in here one wintery afternoon last august, drank the pumps left to right and wasn't once let down. I've heard the new ownership is from Brighton, wears dodgy shirts and sells the best shellfish in Devon, we'll be back.

The Southwark Tavern, London Bridge

good snugs downstairs, used to be holding for bedlam don't you know. firey cider on tap when I was in that soon ran out, 7.0% i think it was, tasted like cloudy apple juice. tunes were indeed spot on. publican hangs around with dodgy types though. heard a great joke in there too - what do you call a bloke with no shins? tony. that's the mark of a good pub that is.

The Wheatsheaf, Borough

wood on the walls, dust on the floor, good beer at the bar, tellies on the wall. wood, dust, beer, telly. brilliant pub.

The Market Porter, Borough

proper ale pub full of men enjoying porper ale. but also excellent because they gave my girlfriend free drinks as she only had a credit card and couldn't be arsed to put it through for 7 quid and also found us a knife with which we could cut up our massive pork pie. all round great service all completed with a nice smile. for the record the harvey's sussex best was too creamy but still nice and free.

The Blues Bar, Soho

the chat was racy but it never overstepped the mark. Nice murphy's and massive, cheap g & t's served by interestingly decorated bar staff.

smashing boozer.

The Boardwalk, Soho

gah! this place was awful, within 10 pces of walking in we regretted our decision to come anywhere near this place. if we'd been on an urban ninja mission we would have been found out immediately by the loud crackling of the crisps and nuts and crap that inhabited the floor. drinks were too expensive and lazily prepared by 'too kool 4 skool' type bar stewards. stepping out of this place into the rain was the most enjoyable thing that happened in the 15 minutes we were in there.

don't go.

The Toucan, Soho

there is only one way to settle the argument about guinness tasting different from place to place.

buy a pint from the toucan, walk with your pint down the road to 'nellie dean' or 'the couch' or some other shithole and buy a pint of guinness in there. sit them next to each other and take a big long draught of each. the difference is worth an extra 20p.

what does every racist joke start with?

a nervous look over your shoulder

The Builders Arms, Kensington

Dear 'boony',

Your snack related comments are a nonsense.

Nice boozer.

The Waterway, Maida Vale

had good times at this place, it's a nice river boozer and there aren't many of them. or are there?

The Warrington Hotel, Maida Vale

they serve magner's, on top of that they also sell dry roasted nuts. brilliant

Nordic, Fitzrovia

the word sweetshop springs to mind some nights in this place.

The Cresselly Arms, Cresswell Quay

They still serve the beer straight from barrells at this simple yet highly effective pub which remains the centre of a small community. Straddling the quay the Arms' view of the Eastern Cleddau and Welsh wilderness. The beer is as excellent.

The Ship Inn, Wandsworth

All of the food you eat at the Ship that cna be grown or bred here in England is done so at the publican's farm in Surrey, and you can taste it. A very tightly run ship in a great location. Try the sardines.

The Windsor Castle, Kensington

When reading these comments you've got to remember not to listen to people who's username is 'pintofcarling'. This did have some toffs in it but it is kensington, one of the most affluent areas on the planet. We found the beer garden without trying where we enjoyed three top notch rib-eye's for a tenner. If you can't afford that don't go out drinking in kensington, unless you find a weatherspoon's.

The Toucan, Soho

Best pint of guinness I've found in London, if anyone has found any better please let me know. Get a pint and earn it's dark goodness by standing outside on a dark night.

The Prince of Wales Feathers, Warren Street

Quality bar staff, well priced drinks and a big screen. Underrated.

29 Mar 2005 18:16

The White Swan, Twickenham

Used to be ackowledged as the best pub in Britain back in the 90's - until the 'Massive Pub Company' got their grubby mits on it, since then it's gone massively downhill. Still friendly bar staff and great location mind.
