The Prince Albert, Notting Hill

Bless me father, It's been 18 months since my last review and NOTHING has changed ! Still love the place, the view, the crowd - but the lazy, ignorant, incompetent and rude staff really need to shape up. Imagine the worst case of carbed up, burger overloaded, sluggish, rude and totally useless person who looks like they need a shower ? Then say hello to your bar person ! 'Could do better' as my old maths teacher used to say.

The Prince Albert, Notting Hill

The stalwart Notting Hill boozer - great bar, great beers, great views thru the huge windows, great to people watch - who needs a movie ?

I always stop by for a pint or two when passing this pub, however, I wish the bar staff would speed it up a bit ! Very casual, very slow, very sluggish ! Maybe if they all cut down on the ( obviously ) free staff burgers and fries they might get around the bar a little quicker !

A good local pub, nevertheless !

The Lamb and Flag, Covent Garden

This is one of my favourite pubs in the old parish of St Giles . . . . . Dickens, it is said, was a regular at this old ale house. A little too tricky to find for the tourists but well worth the visit for those who make the effort. Peroni on draft along with a fine selection of dark ales.

It's a must visit old school London boozer - if you are ever in the area check it out.

Keep up the good work chaps ! ! !

The Red Lion, Mayfair

This pub used to be a great Mayfair secret. Spent many a happy afternoon quietly downing pints in this little gem.

Alas, after a few hundred years of feeding and watering the locals its closed its doors for good.

Westminster council should be ashamed of itself. The planning decision will go down in history as one of the worst in Mayfair.

RIP my old friend.

The Kings Arms, Mayfair

This place has recently had a facelift and the " we know what's best for the customers " interiors team has installed the high tabled perches for our benefit and wired every wall with plazma screens as they obviously "know best" !

Oh dear . . . . . .oh dear indeed.

No real atmosphere anymore, 100% pub chain feel ( which it is ) and it`s now lost what little personality the place used to have.

Shame.

The Field, Mayfair

Nicely refurbished pub, but why is this place empty all the time ?

The irish landlord is an all round decent bloke with other pubs in the area but this one needs some life injecting into it. Great food and beers - priced well too.

The Punch Bowl, Mayfair

This used to be my favourite pub in Mayfair before the Hollywood crew got their sparkling mits on it. Way over priced and rammed with the wrong people who are there for the all the wrong reasons. Shame really.

Learn some history, read some Byron and take a stroll around Mayfair on a Sunday morning. Those of you who know what I mean will understand. For the others, enjoy your over priced bright blue yo-yo shots and happy autograph hunting.

The Audley, Mayfair

Rather larger than your average Mayfair pub but the service is not compromised. I have frequented this place for 5 years or more and I must say I have never encountered bad or slow service, even in busy periods.

Worth a trip if you fancy a couple o pints and a hearty meal. The food here is your typical pub fayre with man sized portions. - the fish, chips and mushy peas are a winner !

The Chequers, St James's

Nice old pub in a historic area. Can get rammed at tea time. Service not 100% but generally as you would expect for a compact pub. Bar staff are friendly but not always on the ball.

Pricing OK for the area.

Choice of ales OK too.

The Red Lion, Pall Mall

This is a fine London boozer which captures the spirit of the traditional London inn. In its day it probably accomodated the likes of Byron, Brummell and others. Try it on a cold winters night, entering Crown Passage from the King Street end and you will be whisked into 1785 ! . . . . . on a regular weekday evening, its packed with the hedgies, traders and the usual after work crowd. Worth the visit in my opinion.
