The Greyhound, Carshalton

A large Youngs pub offering the usual ales and a dedicated dining area. Have been here many times in the past, although not for a while but we recently visited for a meal with friends and I have to say the food was generally very good and my rump steak was probably one of the best I have ever had. Obviously though judging by others comments it can be hit and miss but I would recommend you give it a go. The staff behind the bar were friendly and the serving staff efficient even though it was busy - and they were able to help one of our party who has gluten free requirements. The ales were all well kept - give it go!

The Abbey, Westminster

I have probably been here a handful of times now with my early impressions being that it was OK but seems to be going downhill. The first time I went the real ales weren't bad and all were drinkable and the food wasn't bad either. However, more recently when I have gone the beer has been pretty poor and on the latest occasion almost undrinkable - probably because they don't get sufficient demand. Also the food was limited over Christmas period to only snacks or Christmas dinner and most recently the kitchen was closed. I therefore doubt I will return unless others indicate that the beer has improved again!

The Sun, Carshalton

A great pub with friendly staff and good food - definitely worth a detour to pay it a visit even if only for the beer. A good variety of ales and all of those I have tried so far seem to be kept very well too. When we went it would have been worth booking a table in advance but the telephone number doesn't seem to be anywhere so if anyone knows perhaps they could post it here!

The Swan and Sugarloaf, South Croydon

Everyone must avoid this pub then perhaps something good will happen to it - the potential is enormous. I walked in and walked out again without even having a drink - so well done to those that stayed for a beer (you must be mad)! As someone else has mentioned as soon as you open the door it goes quiet and the 'locals' (nobody I have ever seen before despite being a 'local' all my life) stare at you - you can imagine that when we turned straight around and walked out when I saw there was no real ale on they gave some abuse! Avoid at all costs it really is as bad as the score that it has and rightly deserves!

The Skylark, Croydon

Been here loads of times and finally feel that I should be posting a comment about this pub! Fantstic range of beers and all (currently) for 1.69 which is brill! The food is what you should expect from a Wetherspoons pub - not bad value for money - if the food is not any good then send it back because my eperience is that they will sort it! There is currently a smoking ban on the ground floor which is right! I really like this pub despite its short comings, although these are mainly around the sometimes poor staff ability, and the fact that ultimately they made absolutely no effort to celebrate St George's day! Can't believ that the reallt didn;t care!

The Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell

Wow went there for the first time on Wednesday and really enjoyed it. This pub sells the St. Peter brewery beers and having tried four of them in a crate of beer from Majestic Wine it was then great to try it for 'real' by draft! Small pub with really friendly staff (especially the lady of a certain age!) and the beer was fresh and served straight from the barrels behind the bar. If you get the chance you have to pay this bar a visit!

The Red Lion, Westminster

Have drunk in here on many occasions, on and off, over the last 15 years. The pub is fine generally the staff are ok but I was really disappointed when I was in there on Wednesday evening and having been served two of the cloudiest pints of London Pride I have ever seen in my life - the bar maids response was 'what is the problem?'! There was then only a couple of beers to choose from which were very average for a serious price! Worth a visit and for local workers it is a good pub but I have been really disapointed by the cost and service recently hence the poor points!

The Harrow Inn, Warlingham

Went to this pub tonight, they had one real ale on (London Pride) which was OK but it didn't last long. When it finished very little effort was made to get it back on despite my protestations! They have three hand pumps but despite the recent revamp that has taken place they clearly haven't bothered to deal with the beer situation! Had some food, just the straight forward cheese/bacon burger which was ok but really wasn't worth the money and was a bit bit burnt with soggy chips! This pub has seriously gone down hill since I was thete last. The one good thing was the service - young people but they were very polite so no problems there!

The Taps, Lytham St Annes

Had heard great things about this pub and on a visit to Lytham on Monday took the opportunity to spend the evening in there. Arrived at 7.30 and managed to grab a table despite the pub already being very busy. There was a great atmosphere because it was busy and a wide selection of very well kept ales on tap! Do check out the hand rails and head rest in the gents - an amusing touch!
One negative was that - as experienced in so many pubs these days - the staff don't give time for the beer to settle so you always get a short pint unless you ask for it to be topped up. If they could sort that - perhaps by using oversized glasses - it could be the perfect pub!

Adam and Eve, Westminster

Was in here, not for the first time, last night (Thursday) for a few beers. Unfortunately both the guest ales were off so stuck to the predictably good London Pride that they serve here. Ate here for the first time and it was pretty decent and resonably priced. As ever the Landlady was on hand to ensure everything ran smoothly and although busy early on it became much quieter by about 9.30. A very decent pub that I go out of my to visit.

The Nags Head, Covent Garden

Popped in for a couple of pints at lunchtime today. Great pint of McMullens Country which I would recommend. Not too busy for a lunchtime and plenty of seats at 12.45 before slowly filling up. Friendly efficient staff and prices OK. I understand trasker's comments about something missing from the place but it is worth a visit nonetheless.

The Gipsy Moth, Greenwich

Went here last Thursday when it was quite busy and hot but still got a seat in the huge beer garden! Unfortunately (although understandably as surrounded by residential properties) the garden closes at 9.30 when we were made to go back inside. Three real ales on although the Adnams Broadside went off not long after we arrived but the Bombadier was excellent and they also had Youngs and a fruit beer which I didnt try. A different range of lagers from the usual Stella/1664 including Staropramen. Price wise, as others noted, it was not a cheap pub with average cost of drinks over 3 on a round including beer, lager and single spirit with mixer. However considering the location, right next to the Cutty Sark, it probably wasnt bad.

Seemed to be plenty of staff on duty but still had to wait to be served earlier in the evening possibly partly because a new girl had started. Some staff seemed ok including Nina who was excellent. Overall a pleasant experience and I will be returning to make the most of the ale and the garden.
