The Artful Dodger, Tower Hill

It's okay. I like the big windows that give it an airy feel. They keep a couple of nice beers and the staff are friendly. Yes the other customers do appear to be predominantly drunk old men but they're happy enough and chatty. I wouldn't make a special effort to go but if you're in the area, here's a local boozer.

The Dog and Truck, Aldgate

I like the Dog and Truck. There are real people in here, some nice beer that's well looked after and the staff are very helpful. Jackie is great. The food was perfectly acceptable and reasonably priced. Jackie even managed to sort me cucumber sandwiches (without crusts) and sherry without laughing. You can't say better than that.

The Old Dispensary, Whitechapel

The beer at the Old Dispensary is great, the food is good although not cheap and the staff are always helpful. The landlady is lovely. The place looks good and it's clean. Yes there are lots of suited blokes in there during the week but they don't bite and they don't smell. A great pub, I recommend it.

The Princess of Prussia, Tower Hill

The Princess sells Shepherd Neame beer so of course it's a good pub. It looks like a pub should do (including an old fashioned but clean bog) and the staff are generally very helpful. On the whole the food has been perfectly acceptable but not exactly cheap - it's a pub for goodness sake. Unlike some of the places further west it's not full of poseurs and gobshites. I approve of this pub.

The Lanes, Dover

This is one of at least 2 self-styled micro-pubs in Dover (Oct 2015). The Lanes is a great little boozer with a nice selection of beer.

The lady who runs it was very welcoming and was delighted to help. There is no bar as such, she'll just come up to you and guide you through the list of beers, ciders and wine etc.

Part of the shop is set out like someone's front room with sofas around a table. You can just sit down and chat to the locals. Alternatively there are tables near the window where you can sit and please yourself. Highly recommended and I hope it does well.
