The Prince Arthur, Windsor

Typed 'best pub to watch the rugby in Windsor' into a search engine and this place came up. Stopped in for the lions match on Saturday morning and the place was as you might expect. Small Fullers pub, clean and pleasant with a few small dogs running about. Managed to get the last couple of seats although it didn't get any busier after that. They only had 2 ales on, one of which pride looks fairly permanent. Nice enough pub and everyone in there (20 or so people) were all watching and enjoying the match.

The Oxford Blue, Old Windsor

While walking around Old Windsor stopped in the Oxford Blue for a pint. Beer was good and we were both perfectly happy, small pub with a pool table and a decent garden and restaurant area. It had been raining, so the barmaid went outside dried off a table and some chairs and provided us with cushions for the seats, so we could sit on the decking area comfortably. The kind of simple decent service that enhanced the experience. Nice pub.

This is the fourth pub we headed to in Old Windsor after realising 2 on the list were a toby carvery and harvester and the other one we walked past was closed for a private function.

The Ship of Fools, Croydon

I wouldn't normally review a Wetherspoons as they are pretty much all the same and not great. However this one I liked as it had on boards hanging from the ceiling the final trains times to numerous nearby destinations. Looking after the welfare of their drinkers.

The Old Fox and Hounds, Croydon

Popped in on a Sunday afternoon. The place was heaving with lots of sport going on. Football, racing, gaelic and snooker.

European lager was on at £2.40 a pint and very drinkable. Not much to look at but a great traditional pub. If for whatever reason I end up in West Croydon again I will be stopping by.

Gipsy Tavern, Croydon

Very odd pub. Looks like it used to be a bistro restaurant of some kind but is now a rather small and dingy can and bottle only bar (no draft). Vary run down and music ridiculously loud.

Upon entry we were told by the lady behind the bar that we can sit anywhere we like and have a dance if we feeli like it. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

The Grapes, Wandsworth

This is a brilliant pub, very friendly staff and nice clientele. Very well kept Young's Special which I have enjoyed on a number of occasions over the past couple of years. Best pub in Wandsworth and surrounding area - I think so.

There is a garden and also covered space next to the garden which is nice when warm if you do not mind sitting among smokers. Although on a main road this can be difficult to get to due to location but worth venturing to if in Wandsworth Town and is much better than the pub nearest the station or those on the high street.

The Wotton Hatch, Wotton

Visited this pub for a couple of pre dinner pint as we were staying in the nearby Wotton House. Although this is a pub it is more set up as a restaurant. Only the 4 tables closest to the bar were not set up for dining. There were a couple of large parties dining and they looked like they were having a good time.

A couple of decent ciders on draft and in the fridge and with a cocktail menu that the missus made good use. With only 2 ales on tap I had them both but had to send the Young's bitter back as it was awful. This was blamed on it being a new barrel and I was offered a replacement of a different pint with no fuss.

If you are looking for a place to have a quiet beer I would not bother with the Wotton Hatch, if you want gastro style food then give it a go.

Greens Restaurant and Pub, Wickham

I appreciate this site is called beer in the evening, but as I was not in greens in the evening I had a nice pot of tea which we drank in the intriguing secret garden hidden a short walk down an alleyway through the back door.

I will continue to only write beer reviews in future unless I am on 'teaintheafternoon.com'

The Kings Head, Wickham

This is a great pub in a lovely little village. We were there for the festival again this year and had both a breakfast on one morning which was absolutely spot on and then a roast lunch on the sunday which was one of the best pub lunch I have had for a long time.

As we sat and ate in the garden at the back we were far enough away to not suffer the morris dancing happening in the street outside.

A fair few ales were on and a great time was had by all. Worth a visit if in the area.

The Queen Adelaide, Wandsworth

Stopped in the Queen Adelaide for dinner and a couple of pints mid week. It was less than half full and very pleasant. A good range of pu food was on offer anmd our choices, steaks and burgers, were very well cooked, tasty and at 10 a head good value for the quality and quanitity. The usual youngs beers were available and the Special and London Gold were well kept and enjoyable. We will be popping in here again to eat or just for a pint or three in future.

The Ocean Deck, Sandown

Seems mostly a food pub and although I did not eat in there the food looked good. Decent enough ales on tap and a good amount of nautical tat on all available wall space. Worth including in a pub crawl or having dinner.

The Castle, Sandown

A nice pub with a range of beers on. It does not look too inviting from the outside as along a row of terraced houses and has a plastic door, but once inside the character can be seen. A pub that seems to celebrate halloween all year round with skeletons, suits of armour and weaponary on the walls. Glad we stopped by for one when heading back from the beach.

Yates's, Wimbledon

Now the slug and a rugby pub, best desribed as a South African version of walkabout. A video DJ was playing after 8pm on Friday which was rather odd. If you like that sort of thing I am sure it is good but if you are not keen on loud music in a dark pub then give a miss on a Friday night and did not dare try the draft beer.

Edwards, Wimbledon

If you have been to an Edwards bar before you know the score, big open bar with not a lot going for it. Nothing decent on draft so was bottled cider all round. Worth popping in as part of a pub crawl otherwise don't bother.

The Prince of Wales, Wimbledon

Decent enough pub opposite the station. Plenty of ales on tap and was mostly office staff avoiding going home on a Friday night. Would happily enjoy a pint in her again when waiting to meet friends or to hop on a train.

Billabong, Wimbledon

Seems to be shut down

The Lamb, Rusper

A crowd of us stopped in for Sunday lunch as thorough enjoyed it. The beef was properly cooked, nice and pink, and the IPA and Hophead I tried both well kept and and a delight.

Will head to this place again when in Sussex.

't Brugs Beertje, Bruges

Excellent selection of beers and a cosy place. Every table was occupied and all enjoying themselves thoroughly. Much better to drink in such as place, and many like it in Bruges, than in the nearby Markt.

Cambrinus, Bruges

Popped in for a beer while touring the bars of Bruges. This is a pleasant, light airy place with a mixture of diners and drinkers. A huge menu of beers to the point that choosing the beer based on the silliness of the type of glass it is served in became a good game.

Was very busy on Saturday evening.

The Crowe Bar, Tottenham

A very strange pub indeed which I popped into this weekend. Half the pub was in almost complete darkness and apart from a group playing pool the only others in there were 3 blokes at the back of the pub whose arguement and shouted threats at each other lasted the entire duration of my pint (and undoubtedly longer). I won't bother stopping in here again when next in South Tottenham.

2 Apr 2012 15:17

Turnpike House, Tottenham

Perfectly good local pub. Decent selection of beers and just a few locals supping ales on a Saturday afternoon. Was quiet and pleasant with football on multiple screens.

2 Apr 2012 15:11

The Bree Louise, Euston

As a reasonably frequent visitor to this pub when around Euston I am always impressed with the selection and quality of beer. Was busy last night with no seating available outside in early evening but still enjoy a pint inside. Discount on ales for CAMRA card holders.

28 Mar 2012 14:58

The Wilton Arms, Belgravia

Popped in here last night for a bite to eat before a concert. Food was standard pub fayre and reasonably priced and service was quick and efficient. A few ales on tap and a happy looking clientelle. This was before the match had started so might have changed after I left. While pop in again when next passing.

The King Charles I, Kings Cross

Always worth a visit when near Kings Cross. Was there on friday night which unfortunately meant incredibly slow service and the staff were doing themselves no favours through being someone miserable and sedate with one of them seeming to disappear for a few minutes after every other pint poured to fetch ice. The IPA was good and the Guinness well kept. A great little pub but expect slow service if there are more than a couple of people in.

12 Mar 2012 15:03

Le Gothique, Wandsworth

Went here for dinner last night and the food was excellent and good value on the set menu, the muscles were plentiful and the steak perfectly cooked. They have a few ales on tap and a pint of Junction to finish off the meal from the locally produced Sambrooks was a lovely drop indeed. Will be going back for dinner from time to time and just for a drink more often.

Worth the confused couple of minutes walking round the darkened building trying to find the way in.

The Plough, Clapham Junction

There are many good pubs around Clapham Junction and along St Johns Hill, this is not one of them.

7 Feb 2012 19:03

The Hop Pole, Wandsworth

A nice local pub with familiar faces evertime I go there. Decent juke box and beer with a very welcoming manager and staff. Worth a visit for a Guinness or six.

17 Jan 2012 17:00

The Slug and Lettuce, Clapham Junction

Very convenient for the station and a pub I like more than I should. Used it for breakfast and lunch before heading off to sports events and it is a good place for this purpose and also half price cocktails in the evening.

The Ship Inn, Wandsworth

Visited for Sunday barbeque in this excellent riverside pub. Food was well priced for the quality and quantity and the ale went down well. A lot of outdoor space is available and usually rightly busy at the weekend especially with April and May having good weather. The garden bar was open so made buying drinks easier from the riverside.

Arguably the best pub in Wandsworth.

18 May 2011 17:48

The Ship and Anchor, Ford

Visited the pub a couple of weeks back on a Saturday afternoon. Cheery enough staff with a decent pint or two and a reasonable sized beer garden. Ordered a couple of hot baguettes that were nice but on the expensive side at 8 each.

Biggest trade is obviously from the camp and caravan site so enjoyed the sport of watching couples having stayed in a tent together one night too long arguing.

Would pop in again when next in Ford. and only 5 minutes from the station.

18 May 2011 17:42

The Famous 3 Kings (F3K), West Kensington

Having visited this pub a couple of times over the last few years to watch various sporting events I thought it might be somewhere good to watch the rugby. A few of us went on Saturday to watch the opening games of the 6-nations and were thouroughly disappointed.

The pub was busy, as expected, but very dark and dingy with a lack of fresh air - standing room only with groups giving no consideration to other people around them. Queuing at the bar was taking 30 minutes with many disgruntled drinkers venting their frustrations so not a venue I would recommend to anyone for big sport games.

This is a pity as a few years ago I remember this place being quite good for such occasions.
