Black Horse, Brierley Hill

Not the friendliest of pubs. Landlord puts our beer in front of a bunch of locals who make it difficult for us to reach. Very much a local pub for local people. You are much better off going up the road to the Bull & Bladder where the locals are friendly.

The one good thing was the Holden's Golden Glow which was superb.

23 Nov 2014 21:29

The Waggon and Horses, Batheaston

Another pub sadly gone.

8 Apr 2014 16:50

The Lamb Inn, Clandown

Closed in Jan due to "Lack of local support" according to a notice on the door.

18 Mar 2014 12:15

King George VI, Filton

Shut and surrounded by security fencing.

20 Nov 2013 16:33

The Beaufort Arms, Stoke Gifford

Excellent choice of beers. Real ale £2.49 pint on Mondays and another 20p off with Camra card.

20 Nov 2013 16:31

The Parkway, Stoke Gifford

Closed and now a Co-op. At least it now sells some decent (bottled) ale.

20 Nov 2013 16:29

The Victoria Hotel, Salisbury

+ It's near the station.
- pretty much everything else

12 Nov 2013 20:03

The Cat Tavern, Salisbury

Good little boozer near the station.

12 Nov 2013 20:01

The Farmhouse Inn, Southwick

First visit here today. Food was good, if a little pricey. Beer was very good. Definitely a pub for eating rather than drinking in. And now the only one in Southwick now that the Axe & Cleaver has been levelled.

30 Sep 2013 15:27

The Ring O Bells, Frome

Good pint of Butcombe. But there the praise ends. After hanging around for several minutes the landlord finally appears and goes straight to serve one of his locals, completely ignoring us. The local did point out that we were here first.
Probably the grimmest pub toilets I've seen in 20 years.

25 Sep 2013 15:08

The Royal Oak, Frome

Friendly place, very good pint of 6X.

25 Sep 2013 15:04

The Bell, Buckland Dinham

Good range of RAs, and well kept. I think it has changed hands recently. Welcomed in, despite only going for a quick drink. Fairly busy for a Wednesday lunchtime and have heard good reviews of the food.

25 Sep 2013 15:01

The Waldegrave Arms, East Harptree

First visit here and it won't be the last. Cracking pint of Bath Ales SPA. As for the food, well I can't add much to the last couple of reviews. Outstanding. At first glance the roast belly pork panini seemed a trifle expensive at £7.95. When it arrived I realised what good value it was. 3 good sized slices of slow cooked belly, grilled apple, home made onion relish and superb cole slaw and the dressing on the salad was to die for. We did order a portion of chips, which were excellent, to share, but not really needed as the portions were so generous.

I shall return.

4 Jun 2013 15:06

The Fox And Hounds, Colerne

Another visit and another excellent meal. Superb pint of Mole's Mole Slayer.

27 Apr 2013 12:18

Cross Keys Inn, Somerton

Unfortunately this pub seems to be dying. Up for sale and apart from the three of us, just a WI meeting. The place has so much potential, being close to a busy A road.

27 Apr 2013 12:14

The Devonshire Arms, Long Sutton

Godd beer, but the interior has been ruined.

27 Apr 2013 12:07

The Halfway House, Pitney

Great pub, nine ales on. Shame it was my turn to drive. I shall return

27 Apr 2013 12:03

The Fox And Hounds, Colerne

Went back again. Another great pint and great food again. Forget the older posts about food, it's good now. Went for Ham, eggs and chips on the £5 menu. Two large slices of ham, two eggs, plenty of chips and good ones at that and a proper salad, so often salad means a leaf or two of lettuce, ½ tomato and a slice of cucumber. Here I got all that plus diced peppers and French dressing. My brother had sausage, bacon, eggs, beans and chips. Both our large plates were full. Brilliant.

By the way, the £5 menu is Mon-Sat lunchtimes, not as I mentioned before.

15 Mar 2013 17:21

The Fox And Hounds, Colerne

Great little pub, Sharp's Cornish Coaster at £2 pint. Tried the £5 Mon-Fri lunchtime menu and was impressed with the pork & leeks sausages(3) with peas, mash and red wine gravy, as were my companions. Looking forward to going back to try something else.

31 Jan 2013 21:39

The Northey, Box

More a restaurant with a bar these days. Though not unwelcoming to drinkers, it's not the place to go for a few jars. Usual range af Wadworth Ales. Tried the Boundary which was good. The menu, while not large, was good and honest fare. Myself and another had Ciabattas, which came with chips, nice and crispy without being overdone, and the other had the haddock with chips, which looked good and went down very well. Would certainly go back for the food, but not if I just wanted a drink.

28 Dec 2012 15:50

The Railway Inn, Clutton

Popped in on the way home last night. Found the place friendly. Tried the Butcombe Gold, not usually my beer of choice, but this was in top condition.
Locals appeared to be mainly rambling on about village topics and where better place than the village boozer.

28 Dec 2012 15:35

The Brewery Inn, Seend

Found this place after getting lost. And what a find. Good range of beers, I plumped for Doombar in the end. Friendly locals and staff. Marked on the map now!!!

20 Dec 2012 14:02

The Lion and Fiddle, Hilperton

Must have passed this pub hundreds of times over the the years and today finally visited. Found the staff pleasant. The menu looked good , though didn't have time to try it. Good range of beers. I tried the Bass, not the best I've had, but far from the worst.

20 Dec 2012 13:58

The King's Head Inn, Coleford

First visit today. Lovely pint of Blindman's Buff. Good range of rolls. Pleasant staff. Will be back.

5 Dec 2012 14:26

Aitchie's Ale House, Aberdeen

Had a look in here while waiting for my ferry. Despite a sign outside saying a range of traditional beer was available, there was only lager. Didn't stop.

15 Aug 2012 20:57

Dunblane Hotel, Dunblane

Popped in on the way to Aberdeen and found this gem. All I was looking for was a loo and ended up having an excellent pint of Inveralmond Ossian.

15 Aug 2012 20:54

The Voe Tavern, Tagon

Does this place really exist ? All I could find was a farm.

15 Aug 2012 20:52

The Pierhead Restaurant and Bar, Voe

Only fizz on tap, but Valhalla is available in bottles. Biggest praise is for the food. I go along wholeheartedly with previous comments.

15 Aug 2012 20:48

The Welcome Inn, Mossbank

It may not look very welcoming when you enter, bare concrete steps to the upstairs bar, but persevere. A very friendly pub. Arrived just in time to see Chris Hoy win a Gold.

15 Aug 2012 20:45

The Hilltop Bar, Mid Yell

Excellent food, though only fizzy beer. That said, it was very friendly and welcoming. Something you could say about Shetland as a whole.

15 Aug 2012 20:42

The Mid Brae Inn, Mid Brae

The restaurant suffered a fire in April this year, so no food was available on my visit.

15 Aug 2012 20:40

The Baltasound Hotel, Baltasound

Very welcoming place.

15 Aug 2012 20:38

The Swan, Bradford on Avon

Nice food and beer well kept, but stunned by the prices. 11.40 for 2 pints of GK Celebration and 2 small cokes.

10 Jun 2012 13:30

The Crown Hotel, Trowbridge

Popped in today with the intention of doing the last three pubs I hadn't been to in Trowbridge in my youth. Found it was the only one left open !
Only Doom Bar on draught, but it was probably the best Doom Bar I have had. I see a big lease for sale sign outside. Lets hope in doesn't get turned into flat like the Black Swan and the Castle.

22 May 2012 15:20

The Tyning Inn, Radstock

Now reopened. Went past the other day and the garden was filled with obnoxious youths and there even more obnoxious music. Avoid unless you're underage.

20 May 2012 21:47

The Bishops Blaize, Romsey

Quite busy for time of day, 17:30ish. Didn't try the beer as I was beered out after visiting all the other pubs in Romsey. Although friendly, I got the impression that it was very much a locals pub.

30 Apr 2012 15:46

The Star Inn, Romsey

Visited in January and it was most definitely OPEN.Had a pint of Henry's IPA and it was most enjoyable. Fairly quiet, but it was early Monday lunchtime. Bar staff friendly.

30 Apr 2012 15:43

The Eagle Inn, Coleford

Fairly friendly, some village pubs can be insular, but not the best kept Butcombe I have had. But saying that, it was a 'proper' village boozer.

30 Apr 2012 14:14

The Plume Of Feathers, Rickford

First visit here for about 34 years. Tried the Butcombe Mendip Spring and it was good. Also had their excellent burger with chips. Can't knock at all. Only downside is the lack of parking.

10 Apr 2012 14:54

The Church House Inn, Ashburton

Great pub, friendly landlord and fine ale.

9 Oct 2011 18:57

The Slabhouse Inn, West Horrington

I understand that this closed a few months back and has now been a victim of arson.

9 Oct 2011 17:59

The Bridge, Topsham

Great pub next to the Exe. Found it a bit like a reverse tardis, much smaller inside that the outside suggests.Good choice of ales and could happily spent much longer here, but transport home beckoned.

9 Oct 2011 17:51

The Warren House Inn, Postbridge

Beer was well kept and a choice. But London prices in Devon. About the only downer at an otherwise great little pub.

9 Oct 2011 17:46

The Forest Inn, Princetown

Good ale and, according to those that tried it, good food.

9 Oct 2011 17:35

The Rugglestone Inn, Widecombe in the Moor

Great little pub about mile from the village. Good choice of ales, friendly and welcoming staff.

9 Oct 2011 17:28

The Old Inn, Widecombe in the Moor

First visit here in 25 years. Once a good pub, but has had the heart ripped out of it. Beer was OK, some of the clientele not so. Particularly a group a walkers who thought it their god given right to block the door into the garden with their kit.

9 Oct 2011 17:26

The Montague Inn, Shepton Montague

Excellent pint of Gem, service pleasant enough anf great views out the back. But can't escape from the impression that this a a restaurant with a bar.

9 Oct 2011 17:22

The Pecking Mill Inn, Shepton Mallet

Only real ale was Doobar and that was warm. My friend had Stella and said that that wasn't right. Also glasses were dirty. Won't be going back until under new managment

17 Sep 2011 21:56

The Tuckers Grave Inn, Faulkland

Great to see the return of an old favourite

1 Sep 2011 20:22

The Clytha Arms, Clytha

Stopped here on a tour yesterday. Excellent range of well kept ales. I think all in the party enjoyed what they had. Didn't have time to sample the food.

10 Jul 2011 09:45

The Knatchbull Arms, Stoke St Michael

Went down to try it today only to find it doesn't open Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes.

17 Jan 2011 14:16

The Kings Arms, Stratton on the Fosse

Closed Monday lunchtimes

17 Jan 2011 14:15

The White Post Inn, Stratton on the Fosse

Finally dropped in today after many years of passing it. Fairly friendly welcome. Not the best 6X I have had, but far from the worst. Will probably return one day to try the food.

17 Jan 2011 14:14

Ye Olde Black Bear, Tewkesbury

Not bad first pint, can't remember what it was though. Second one was Adnam's Broadside, the best I have had outside Southwold. Food was good value and staff were very polite and helpful.

23 Oct 2010 16:40

Royal Oak, Heaton Park

A pub in the true sense of the word. A drinking establishment. Beer was good, barman and locals were friendly. Not really a place I would take someone on a date though.

19 Oct 2010 08:48

The Crown Inn, Churchill

First visit today. Why did I leave it so long. Beautiful pint of Palmers IPA. Recommended by an old mate, who I met for lunch. Cheers Simon. Had the roast beef sandwich, which was very good and I must add that from what I saw of the other food being served and devoured, it is all of I high standard. Great place. I shall certainly be returning.

13 Oct 2010 15:19

The Duke of Cumberland, Edford

Been back twice since my last review. Excellent beer on both occaisions. Today took my daughter down to bribe her into helping me do some jobs around the house. Tried the 2 meals for 10 menu (available Mon-Sat 12-3)
and had two generous servings. My daughter had the bangers and mash and had 3 good sized Cumberland sausages (made by the local butcher in Radstock) I tried the ham, egg and chips and had some of the nicest ham I have tried. Washed it down with one of the best pints of Gem that I have had.

11 Sep 2010 13:20

The Castle Tavern, Inverness

Went in again last Friday. My mate and I had a pint of Wildcat and then Tradewinds, both of which were excellent. The food was fantastic. I had the steak and ale pie and it was cooked to perfection. My mate had the venison, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Both came with veg and salad and not an iceberg lttuce in sight. Brilliant. Can't praise the place too highly.

23 Aug 2010 11:22

The Holcombe Inn, Holcombe

Mainly a foody pub rather than a local. Beer well kept, but a bit pricey.

21 Jun 2010 20:50

The Duke of Cumberland, Edford

Now re-opened and some investment has taken place. It smells of fresh paint today. Looks like they will offer a good range of food. Tried the 6x and I must say it was very good, my mate had the Butcombe and said that it was also very good. Also worth noting is that they have put in a new skittle alley, at a time when some pubs are getting rid of theirs. This place deserves a visit to reward the new owners for the work they have put into this place. I for one look forward to my next visit.

21 Jun 2010 20:48

The Fir Tree Inn, Radstock

This is now closed and earmarked for demolition. Finally some improvement

18 May 2010 21:34

The Tuckers Grave Inn, Faulkland

First time I've been in for about 18mths. Good to see that it is still unchanged, it's now around 35 years since I have been going there. Eggs were still being sold.

And I would just like to say to the occaisional visitor. Don't lat the shuutters at the windows being closed fool you into thinking it is closed. And I would like to add that they are don't open Monday lunchtimes anymore.

11 May 2010 21:39

The King William IV, Bath

Played skittles here last week. Things may be improving. Only one rael ale, Doombar, but it was excellent. Landlord still grumpy though. Mind you I would have expected a smile from him after paying 3.10 a pint.

24 Apr 2010 17:37

The White Horse, Twerton

Alway did keep good ales. A bit too near my ex-wife though.

28 Mar 2010 20:14

The Full Moon, Twerton

What a dump. First tried it back in the early eighties and given it a go everytime the licencee changes. However one thing that never does is the chav clientelle.

28 Mar 2010 20:12

The Old Crown Inn, Twerton

As mattbeer says, always the same 10 people in there. As for HaggisBasher on the chippy nearby, it's by far the worst one in Bath.

28 Mar 2010 20:09

The Livingstone, Bath

A local pub for local people. Weird ones at that.

28 Mar 2010 20:04

The Piccadilly Ale House, Bath

I find the present publicans very pleasant people. They make an effort to keep it a pub for locals, yet at the same time inviting to outsiders. Playing skittle sthere tomorrow, so I hope they have new balls.

9 Mar 2010 20:33

The King William IV, Bath

Changed a bit since last reviews. Indiifferent service, food, beer and landlord.

9 Mar 2010 20:21

The Duke of Cumberland, Edford

Drove past today and it was boarded up with a sign on the door saying "All items of value have been removed" Shame, as I think there was a lot of potential there.

5 Mar 2010 14:17

The Apple Tree Inn, Shoscombe

First visit since the early '80s. Excellent pint of Gem. I have been told that the 6X is well worth trying as well. Food looks a little on the expensive side, but as this is an out of the way place, it is understandable. I shall return.

4 Mar 2010 14:52

The Duke of Cumberland, Edford

Re-opened in December. Popped in for a swift half. Was told they were open every lunchtime and evening now, went back on the Friday and they were shut. Mmmmmmmm

4 Mar 2010 09:01

The Friendship, Prestwich

Always pop in here when I am up to see friends. Nothing special, but then, nothing bad about the place. Beer always been good though.

2 Mar 2010 16:01

The Bell Hotel, Tewkesbury

Popped uo to Tewkesbury to see an old friend and we went here for lunch. Excellent pint of Abbot and very good cod & chips.

23 Feb 2010 21:05

Knights Templar, Bristol

Not bad for a Wetherspoons. Handy for work, and always a reasonable pint.

Going back on other comments. I think an_ecunemical_matter must really like this place. He has been moaning about it since December 2006, yet keeps coming back. I dread to read the reviews left for other places. ;)

28 Jan 2010 19:18

The Castle Tavern, Inverness

Great little pub near the castle. Good quality food at very reasonable price. Will be paying a visit next time I'm in Inverness.

26 Jan 2010 19:39

The Fir Tree Inn, Radstock

The sort of place where it goes quiet if a stranger walks in.

26 Jan 2010 19:29

The George, Norton St Philip

Been in a few times, but the place is mainly a tourist pub now. not tried the food, a bit too close to home for that.

26 Jan 2010 19:27

The Fleur De Lys, Norton St Philip

Played skittles there last night. Young couple run the pub. Beer well kept, if a tad pricey.

26 Jan 2010 19:25

The Shakespeare, Manchester

Popped in yesterday afternoon while waiting for a tram. The place was empty so can't comment on what it might be like in the evenings or lunchtime

22 Jan 2010 12:49

The Royal Oak, Heaton Park

A pub in the true sense of the word. A drinking establishment. Beer was good, barman and locals were friendly. Not really a place I would take someone on a date though.

22 Jan 2010 12:47

The Tyning Inn, Radstock

No other reviews yet ? Says it all really.

19 Dec 2009 08:34

The Fromeway, Radstock

I would like to add that the landlord has now sadly retired from butchering.

19 Dec 2009 08:31

St Boniface Arms, Ventnor

First went in here in 1980, ordered a pint and asked for the menu. Once I had chosen, I went back to the bar and was told that there was no food that day. Went in there again this summer and exactly the same thing happened.

29 Oct 2009 10:14

The Slabhouse Inn, West Horrington

Used to go in here once a month for food. Then it was very good value with a good choice of ales. Tried it again recently and am very dissapointed. Food nothing special and overpriced, poor choice of not very well kept ales. Shant be going again until it changes hands.

29 Oct 2009 10:10

New Inn, Priddy

Tries to give the 'old worlde' look, but is given away by having a carpet. Beer not bad and the landlord was friendly, but then, we were the only two people in there.

29 Oct 2009 10:02

The Queen Victoria Inn, Priddy

Visited the other week after a gap of 20 odd years. Nice to see the place unchanged. The menu may not appear to be very adventuous, but it is to a very high standard. Beer was very well kept. The better of the two in the village.

29 Oct 2009 09:59

The Hadley Arms, Combe Down

If the last reviewer hasn't been into the pub, how does he know the landlord is unfriendly ? I have found him to be very amenable. Food is very basic, but the real ale is OK, if a little limited in choice. This is a pub for pub games. 3 skittles alleys plus dartboard, shove ha'penny and pool.

29 Oct 2009 09:54

The Cross Guns, Avoncliff

I remember what this pub was like in the 1960s. If people think it is small now, you should have seen it back then ! A good place to visit on a nice summer's evening, not that we have had many of those recently.

29 Oct 2009 09:46

The Somerset Wagon, Chilcompton

Fantastic food. Sadly not a drinking pub anymore.

29 Oct 2009 09:43

The Guss and Crook, Timsbury

Very cliquey when I first went in 20 years ago. Still pretty much the same now.

29 Oct 2009 09:39

The Seven Stars Inn, Timsbury

Great village pub. Really fine pint of Bass served when I went in. Oh, and free nibbles.

29 Oct 2009 09:38

The Lass O'Gowrie, Manchester

Visited back in July to have a quick beer with an old friend before returning to Bristol. Had a pint of Betty's Bitter and just had to have more. One of the finest beers I have had. Looking forward to my next visit.

29 Oct 2009 09:35

The Talbot, Mells

First time a paid 3 a pint and not the best Butcombe I have had.

29 Oct 2009 09:32

The Fromeway, Radstock

As already commented, the drinks are a little pricey, but are always well kept and I would rather pay a little more for a decent pint. Food is excellent, with good veriety and changing menu. If you vist the butchers next door, try the faggots, the sausages and the excellent home-made steak and kidney pie.

29 Oct 2009 09:28

Hunters Lodge, Priddy

An excellent pub that has been unchanged for years. Visited it last summer for the first time since the early eighties and delighted to see that. No bandit, music,TV or other distraction from a perfect pint and good hearty food. Never had problems with the landlord as a very few others have, perhaps they should look at themselves ?
