The Camden Eye, Camden

hey wellreaddjay [henry miller is the BEST - whats your fave?]. wonder where my previous post went - was v. tame, no swear words etc, thought this was a website supporting independent views, apparently not...

The King William IV, Hampstead

big refurb coming up soon for the KW4, going one step up from the friendly but slightly dusty local it is now to a more modern, stylish - but still glam gastropub. keep your eyes peeled for this one.

The Ruby Grand, Hammersmith

huge garden with lovely wooden tables & parasols for the ladies, big screen with sports for the boys - and the most friendly barstaff in W6. the only weak point is - there's not enough of them!!

The Union, Marylebone

recently refurbished and has turned from drab boozer into gorgeous gastro bar. fantastic food with reasonable prices [you can tell the GM enjoys quality fare as she will sometimes take over the kitchen and work her magic there] they have an extra function room downstairs with pool table and separate bar - perfect for parties which they will prepare for you stress-free. highly recommended.

Metro Bar and Canteen, Holloway

excellent student hangout. they have different stuff on every night, best of is monday 1 a drink, wednesday 'launch pad' for student DJ's - of which a few are residents at spoofer's already.

Ochre, St Pauls

tucked away in a City side alley this is a retreat of warmth and vitality just a stone's throw from St. Pauls cathedral. atmosphere is bubbly & friendly, style of the bar individual & funky. function room for up to 30 people downstairs

The Oakhill Tavern, Beckenham

definitely the proverbial oasis in the beckenham decent pub desert. looks lovely after a complete refurb, good u-shape layout of seating around the bar so even when its busy you can have some privacy. superb sunday roasts and sizeable 'oakhill-style' sandwiches keep bringing us back for more every weekend. three fireplaces give the rooms an all-time welcoming warmth in winter but the real hit is their gorgeous back garden in late spring/early summer - what better way to enjoy your sunday lunch - or BBQ - than sharing a wooden table and a drink with your friends in the sun, surrounded by an abundance of colourful flowers and greenery listening to water slowly spilling from a fountain into their little pond ? see you there.

The Northumberland Arms, Fitzrovia

a recent refurb has vastly improved the ambience of this place. rich plum & grey shades were used for the bar area and warm creams & browns for the sofa area in the back. it is not huge but that adds to its charm, there are cafe-style 'poser' tables with high chairs for a quick pint and more comfortable wooden furniture for a sit down meal. nice for a break from gadget-shopping on tottenham ct rd.

The Study, Holloway

recently changed management and it shows. they've scrubbed & polished everything, introduced a new food menu with exclusively home-made dishes, mostly classic choices like pie, sausage & mash and sunday roast. the music is still a good mix of indie and alternative rock. like it.

Ember, Farringdon

in an area with stiff competition Ember remains the coolest place to go in EC1. their downstairs club 'SubEmber' holds about 80 people, is open late thu, fri & sat, has a high quality sound system and employs resident DJ's. staff are knowledgeable and very patient with a demanding pre-club crowd.

The Catcher in the Rye, Finchley

unbelievable transformation - this is how a proper 'gastropub' should look, the seating areas are split between warm comfortable leather couches in elegant colours in front of the two fireplaces and bistro-style tables on the raised areas. new wooden floors, cool rockstar photography and an industrial-style bar make this a very attractive place to go out in finchley

Babel, Clapham Junction

well-run bar, trendiest place in the area, superb staff that don't mind mixing cocktails to foreign recipes for insistent foreign customers [that's us]
best to book if you're having a party as they will set everything up for you which is sooo nice and stress free. must try: devine 'very berry ice tea' cocktail

The Long Room, Queens Park

walk along salusbury road and you'd never expect to come across this cool place. industrial-style layout, lots of light from the open ceiling in the dining room and a sexy, cherry-red underlit bar laden with curious spirit bottles.
the local trendies usually arrive after work, thursday, friday & saturday nights the bar opens late with resident DJ's and their cocktail list is endless. nice quality sharing dishes and mediterranean-style menu. vastly improved under new management, will def go back
