The Woolpack, London Bridge

Spent a very pleasant hour on a late Monday afternoon here. Excellent Treason (seasonal red ale from Trumans). Also had usual Young's offerings plus a range of craft beers on tap.

The Olde Ship Hotel, Seahouses

Great atmospheric bar, full of local memorabilia. Staff were efficient rather than chatty but welcoming mix of locals and tourists.

Excellent range of 6 local beers (from Hadrian Border, Allendale, Consett Ale Works, High House Farm and Cullercoats) plus 5 more widely available ones (Black Sheep, Theakstons, Directors, Ruddles County, Old Speckled Hen). Tried the Allendale Wagtail which was tasty and well kept.

Beer garden overlooking the harbour and across to Farne Islands.

The Ship Inn, Alnwick

Lovely small pub in a great setting, just off a magnificent beach. There are seats out front or, if there are taken, plenty of grass to sit on and admire the view.

Brew their own beer (and sell bottles to take away). I sampled and enjoyed the Red Herring, a ruby ale, and there was a stout and at least one other as well as other more standard stuff on tap.

It does get busy but it's very civilised, with a patient queue (rather than a scrum where those with loudest voices and biggest elbows get served first).

We visited on a lunchtime when I don't think they take bookings for food, but they serve until about 2.30pm. I enjoyed a good Ploughmans with big helpings of two cheeses from local Doddington Dairy and excellent home-made chutney.

For those who are bothered, they do take payment by card now !

Jolly Fisherman, Craster

Despite previous comments, we had a great evening here - good atmosphere and good food and drink. Still have Mordue Workie Ticket as well as Timothy Taylor and Black Sheep on tap - in excellent shape too. Food was really good and very pleasant and attentive staff. Definitely worth a visit.

Kings Head, Bridgnorth

Went for food with friends on a Saturday night - place was heaving, so glad we had booked. Excellent meal and very personable staff. Had a couple of pints of what the guy servinbg us said was a 'ruby porter' from Hobsons. Didn't catch the name - not sure Hobsons do such a thing (except Postmans Plum Porter at Xmas). Might have been Old Henry. Anyway it was excellent !

The Golden Lion Inn, Bridgnorth

Four of us dropped in early Saturday evening - busy with people obviously having a drink before going on places. Friendly atmosphere in lounge and bar - got a seat in the bar. Excellent pint of Hobson's Golden Glow, with a good range of other beers. Worth a visit.

The Black Horse, Bridgnorth

Visited on a Sunday tea-time - busy as there was a big Premier League match on, but friendly atmosphere nonetheless. Had a good pint of Hobson's Town Crier, also serving a good range of other ales, including Bathams.

The Black Boy Inn, Bridgnorth

Dropped in on a Friday evening. Nice buzz about the place and friendly atmosphere. Had a nice pint of Hardys & Hansons (GK) Olde Trip. Was going for a pint of Futility (brewed by Stonehouse Brewery in Weston, near Oswestry) but they had to change the barrel and I couldn't be bothered to wait. Several other ales on too. Worth a visit.

The Canalside Cafe, Birmingham

Glad to come in out of the cold into the cosy small middle bar. Had a very good pint of Davenports Original (also had Sadlers Peaky Blinders on but didn't try that)

The Admiral Nelson, Daventry

Lovely setting right on a quiet stretch of the canal with plenty of outside seats.

I enjoyed two good pints of Nobby''s Northampton Red and also had Sharps Atlantic and an Admiral''s Ale.

Interesting interior with some modernisation inside of the eating area.

Decent pub food, though perhaps a bit pricey for what was on offer.

Definitely worth another visit.

The Robin Hood Inn, Droitwich

Excellent pint of Purity Ubu - seems to be regularly available here. Also had Doombar on.

Part of the Vintage Inns chain, so pretty decent food on offer including excellent triple-cooked chips.

The Royal Oak, Walgrave

Always great pub food - home-cooked, good value and good helpings. Includes a good fixed price menu during weekday lunchtimes.

Just shows though that one visit can give a false impression. Only Abbot on the hand pumps the day that we went recently, but normally there are at least two others (Adnams Southwold Bitter seems a regular). Beer always well kept.

The Royal Oak, Cogenhoe

Called in for a lunch-time drink and sandwich while on a long circular walk - pleasant welcome, excellent sandwich with decent crusty bread and a refreshing bottle of cold Saxby''s plum cider. Not in the mood for a beer, but they were serving Tribute and London Pride. Comfortable and well kept interior and pleasant rear garden. Worth a visit !

White Lion, Whittington

Very disappointing. Poor beer selection. Only Bombardier Pale Ale on hand pump when we went. Wine is Stowell's from a tap. Food OK but nothing special.

The Malt Shovel, Northampton

Enjoying the pub's 'Beers from the Coast' festival over the May Day Bank Holiday - over 30 beers from coastal breweries, plus various ciders. Excellent Palmers, Skinners and Branscombe Vale offerings. Good food too on our visit - lovely fish supper tied in with the Festival (2 courses for £10 !)

The Barley Mow, Trefonen

Good couple of pints of Offa's Pride, one of the beers brewed at the pub. Good food and friendly atmosphere and staff.

The Plough, Lower Cadsden

Stopped here for a drink and snack yesterday while walking around Ridgeway. Pub is in a nice setting tucked in the woods. The inside is reasonably smart without being too formal. Made perfectly welcome even though we were in walking gear, though we did choose to sit outside - there is a grassed garden at the rear and tables at the front.

Had a good pint of Marlow Rebellion IPA. Two other ales on offer - Greene King IPA and a 'Cadsden' ale (apparently brewed by Belhaven for them).

Stilton Ploughmans was good enough, though bread was just a heated-up small roll.
