The Old Stables, Fontwell

Only go if you are dying of starvation & the Little Chef & Burger King on the other side of the A27 are not your thing!
Staff are helpful but poorly trained & don't know one coffee from another.
Food is seriously below average, even for the prices.
Dull, dull & unexciting. A pub for people with zero imagination. West Sussex is full of beautiful, genuinely old pubs serving good straightforward pub faire. This is a poor imitation.

The Preston Park Tavern, Brighton

The food is consistently excellent. I have had one less than great meal & I mentioned this to the staff at the time & they sorted it. What more could you ask!
The menu doesn't change as often as I'd like but maybe I go too often! Great that all their wines are by the glass.
Very attentive, friendly, knowledgeable staff.
I agree it is more ladies & couples during evenings & hordes of yummy mummies children on Sunday but mid week lunch is a haven!
Very pleasant atmosphere so I highly recommend.

The Five Bells, Chailey

Stopped for lunch on Sunday & had an average lunch. The portions are generous enough but the food was poor. My roast was tasteless, especially for the prices they are charging. I guess they see themselves as a restaurant more than a pub but its more pub food so a little confusing.
The staff were friendly & helpful although they looked a bit bored as it was pretty quiet.
Such a beautiful building but seriously in need of a make over. The garden & building look tired.
Perhaps in a few years it will have found its direction. I'll keep my fingers crossed for then & pay it another visit.
