Red Red Red, Luton

Even Legends has now moved from here.

Brookes, Luton

3.00 a pint for Taylor's Landlord may not be great value, but the beer was on good form. This is a comfortable town centre pub, the sort of place you can take your mother or your wife to without feeling out of place enjoying a beer or two. Judging by RedRoosterRocker's comments on this and other establishments it really is difficult to know what sort of pub would make him happy.

The Bow Bar, Edinburgh

A superb proper pub. The sort of place where you can actually sit down and read a book or newspaper, or hold a conversation without having to shout. Being able to enjoy a range of excellent real ales is, it may sound ridiculous to say, a bonus. But the ale is the unique selling point - it really doesn't need anything more.

Behind The Wall, Falkirk

Not at all sure what this place is trying to be, but it isn't the pub that it used to be. And if there really is an ale bar upstairs, it might help to have some indication of that fact downstairs!

Brookes, Luton

Has just reopened as the Red Lion Hotel after a refurbishment. Now appears to be aiming at a slightly different market - at least during the daytime - and offer reasonably priced food and coffee as well as a welcome 3 real ales (Youngs Bitter, Wells Eagle and Taylor's Landlord).

Red Red Red, Luton

Now Legends night club.

The Two Brewers, Luton

It's a certainty that this pub won't be reopening. The bits that haven't suffered from fires and vandalism are approaching dereliction.

The Farley Arms, Luton

Now called La Sheesh, some sort of Islamic restaurant/pub. Wasn't open as it was the middle of the afternoon during Ramadan.

The Wheelwright Arms, Luton

Surprisingly busy on a Monday evening, possibly as it was around midnight! Served an acceptable pint of London Pride, although most of those present seemed to be drinking lager or Guinness. I might just be encouraged not to walk straight past quite so often in future.

Wheatsheaf, Southwark

Had a nice pint of Hop Back Taiphoon in here yesterday. My only complaint about the place is that finding somewhere to sit with clear view of a TV (the cricket was on) was impossible. All lines of sight were blocked by people standing around the bar NOT watching the TVs! Perhaps some repositioning might be a good idea.

The Rake, London Bridge

Popped in for a couple of halves, and thought the beer quality was good. So was a little surprised and disappointed to hear one of the management, who was discussing (wholesale) business with some sort of potential customer, that the beer I was drinking wasn't at its best. That seems rather unprofessional to me and makes me wonder a bit about the standards that are set for the normal drinking public. If it isn't at its best, don't sell it. Set for others the standards you set for yourself.

The Alford Arms, Frithsden

Lovely pub with fantastic food, but disappointing beer. A choice of 3 uninspiring beers - Flowers Original, Brakspears Bitter and Sharp's Doom Bar - the Doom Bar was disappointingly bland, but the Brakspears was OK. If visiting again, I'll probably drink wine!

Castle Tavern, Luton

Popped in on a Saturday lunchtime for a quick pint. The beers on offer were GK IPA, London Pride and St Austell Tribute. The Tribute was a good pint, let down by not being a great beer at the best of times. The only negative is that I would prefer to find a closed door somewhere between the bar and the toilets.

The Britannia Inn, Dungeness

Visited recently when it was a haven from the wind and rain. Nice Sheps beer, but only full meals. Surely it would be possible to provide rolls or sandwiches as well? The pub isn't hard to find - in Dungeness even a single storey building can be seen from a distance!

Templar Hotel, Leeds

A lovely pub that was doing a roaring trade early on a Monday lunchtime. The beer (Saltaire Blonde) was poor - I paid for a pint and only drank half of it. It's lack of taste suggested all the flavour had been removed by a tight sparkler. Rather disappointing.

The Garden Gate, Leeds

This pub has a fantastically well preserved interior, which is well worth a visit. Unfortunately, it's not worth a visit for the beer. No real ale and, judging by my recent visit, no interest in cleaning the place. Rubbish was piled under the seats in one of the rooms, a broken window was covered with cardboard and sellotape in the bar. Sadly neglected, and in desperate need of TLC and enthusiasm.
