Nutwell Lodge Hotel, Lympstone
Only GK IPA and Bombardier on offer. Not in bad nick, but a little too cold. Food (carvery) was mediocre. Meat was dried up, roast spuds must've been sitting in oven for a few days (I hadn't ever thought I might moan about potatoes being tough!), cauliflower was raw (!), cabbage was fresh though, carrots were half-cooked,etc, etc.
All in all, not to be risked again.

Nice friendly welcome from the keen staff. Very good pint of Proper Job. Visit spoiled by the idiot twat in a hat at the end of the bar who thinks he can sing (He can't!).

Absolutely no ales to speak of, unless you count bottled, refrigerated Greene King. Didn't stay.

6X a bit flat, but otherwise in reasonable condition. Moved on.

The Queens Head Hotel, Troutbeck
Sadly, the Queens Head was burned down on Saturday 7th June.
Totally ruined what was a very good pub.
57(!) Firefighters attended from Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside, Coniston, Milnthorpe, Staveley, Patterdale, Ulverston, Penrith and Barrow.
Nobody was hurt, fortunately.

The Who'd A Thought It, Glastonbury
Well, the beer is alright, but if you're a Guinness drinker, or fancy a pint of Amstel (which is NOT a premium beer!), either one will cost you £4-65! I recently had Guinness in a London bar @ £3-40. This place is taking the piss!

Popped in here last Saturday for a pint (or two, as it happened)of Blindmans which was in superb condition. Lovely pub, but quiet at lunchtime. No longer doing food, except for parties pre-booked.
Friendly welcome from Paul & Daria, who make it seem as though one was in their front room, which of course is quite true. Pretentious? No. Beer over-cooled? Not in this case. Atmosphere is there aplenty for those able to participate, and the place is worth a visit to see how it should be done.
5 May 2014 12:08
Well, it should have done, but due to theft & vandalism it's been delayed by a week.
Next Thursday (28th) should see it open for business.
23 Jul 2011 11:42
Keys have been handed over, and the pub will reopen on Thursday 21st.
19 Jul 2011 10:30
That's a pity, as I had planned on trying the place this weekend.

The George and Pilgrim, Glastonbury
The Final Arbiter was out and about yesterday, but I see he walked past this establishment. Must have been on the way for fish and chips.
1 Jun 2011 11:39
Why do you think that TFA failed at all? I know the bloke and saw him yesterday outside the Billy, but I know for a fact he doesn't use this pub, which is quite obvious if you read his posts. I think You are the one who needs to grow up miss!

The Tuckers Grave Inn, Faulkland
Very sad. One of the best in the area.
I hope it'll be resurrected, but I won't hold my breath!

The King William Inn, Glastonbury
Today I had a pint of Gem, and then switched to Butcombe. Nothing wrong with the Gem, but I thought I'd try both.
I prefer Butcombe, but they were both in very good fettle.

I'd not like to be there when it becomes "Crowed"!
I've not been there on a Sunday, but have seen it quite busy early evenings some years ago.
Probably the best pub in that vicinity.
29 May 2011 12:56
My impression of lallywoo is that she(?) is not a "pub person".
I shall look forward to trying this pub myself, but not for long, as the proper beer range seems rather limited.
29 May 2011 12:17
I agree with the last two posts, particularly the TV comment!
Andy and Ann were very welcoming and chatted to us while we had a drink.
We also tried the food, and I'm pleased to report that we both chose the beer-battered cod, etc., and Ann proceeded to pour some beer to make the batter, then we heard sounds of battery(?), and shortly thereafter we were presented with large fillets with chips & so on.
I can honestly say I have never had such excellent fish and chips other than that supplied by my grandmother in my father's fish and chip shop!
They are obviously happy here, and I can see in the future that this will be a venue pub, not just for food, but for beer-drinkers too. I had Otter, which is the standard ale here, but there were two other choices.
Keep an eye on this pub. It's going to get really popular!
28 May 2011 15:48
Daytime trade in Baanwell is minimal anyway, and it wouldn't pay to have staff in when there are no customers, would it?
26 May 2011 15:54
The George and Pilgrim, Glastonbury
Had a reasonable pint of Otter here today. Barmaid's really up herself.

The Axe and Compass, Heath and Reach
Such a shame that racheljacks and blackpanther chose to use their dual identity to boost the rating. I'm sure it doesn't need it.
We CAN tell when you do this you know!

Stopped at lunchtime.
I had steak, which was very good; herself had ham eggs and chips, which she pronounced good (quite why she didn't pronounce it "ham eggs and chips" is beyond me)
The Betty Stoggs was in fine fettle,as was the other guest Wickwar B.O.B.
I didn't try the regular ale, which is Otter, but I can do that whenever, can't I?
The chips aren't what they were, but what is?
Friendly, efficient, pressed barmaid/waitress/receptionist/etc.
Friendly chubby cat.

Seems rather downmarket American, drinking out of the bottle.
(I must say, I don't understand the sandwich rule though!)

RiffRaff:
There should be no sediment with a pasteurised product like Fosters, so my opinion on this is that there were deposits of yeast in the uncleaned beerline which would be dislodged by turbulence caused due to a lack of fluid in the line at the end of the barrel.Sorry, but eon22 is quite correct.

Stopped for a quick one after a beertasting session at the Redwood Lodge Hotel for Sainsburys Great British Beer Hunt. Had a pint of Palmers IPA, which was not in the best nick, but also a taster of Glastonbury "Thriller" which, unlike the late Michael Jackson, was black. I must look out for that one again, as I recommended it to a fellow imbiber, who pronounced it very good. I was rather full, so I was driven away by my chauffeuse.
13 May 2011 09:01
Well, it's good to hear that a pub has changed so much!
I haven't been there for years, mainly because it had such a bad reputation.
The last time I was there it was obviously so far downhill there was nothing below it.
I shall try it again when next that way.
2 May 2011 22:54
One of them is Mr (presumably) R Sole. Says it all really doesit not?
27 Apr 2011 16:09
A pint of bitter here will cost you 62p (on Friday 29th, provided you pay full price for your first one).
I wonder if the same price applies to the 4th, 6th, 8th, etc?

The Who'd A Thought It, Glastonbury
I thought this site was all about pubs and beer in the evening?
Apparently not.
21 Apr 2011 10:17
Seems to me that a lot of posts about this place are missing.
I remember going there last year and the year before, and posting on one of those occasions, if not both.
I also remember meeting the ubiquitous Final arbiter there, and I'm sure he posted too.
Both my posts and his were favourable as I recall.
20 Apr 2011 22:25
I have seen an article in the current edition of the Morning Advertiser, regarding river trips for up to twelve persons a time from this pub.
Sounds interesting, but I don't know about the beer.
8 for adults and 5 for under 16s.
Too far away for me to try though.

The Hope and Sirloin, Farringdon
I used to come here for a full English + Guinness @ 0730, but that was around fifteen years ago.
It was very good at that time. It's a shame it's gone downhill, which would seem to be the case.
19 Apr 2011 16:56
"only downside is the downmarket use of a TV in the pub"
Oh, if only other licencees would appreciate your stance!
Thank you for being a kindred spirit.

The King William Inn, Glastonbury
I like it, and I notice that the blokie from the Mitre does too.
15 Oct 2009 02:37
There's a sign on an A-board in the market Place in Glastonbury, which states "Open All Day Every Day". Well, we have tried to get in there three times in the last ten days, and it wasn't! (Perhaps, after having read the reviews recently, we were spared from misfortune?)
30 Jun 2009 00:15
Well, if that's the sort of language (and attitude) we can expect there, it's no wonder the only ones who use it are the deaf OAPs I saw when I looked in. (only there for the reduced price food I guess)
18 Jun 2009 09:58
I saw this bloke too. I think he used to be in the White Hart, Somerton. A right wally if ever there was one! Some people just don't fit. As you say though, the beer ain't too bad. Not tried the food. Was mostly full of OAPs when I went there.

Brent Knoll Inn, East Brent
Spent a few hours here yesterday, andvery happy with it. Wadworth George and the Dragon, Tribute and London Pride were all sampled, and the lady who obviously penned the invitation below was very friendly and welcoming as was the young fellah working behind the bar. CAMRA members note 20p per pint discount on real ales. try it. You'll like it.
