The Forest Gate Inn, Epping

Visited this pub on Boxing Day 2008 with my family. Ordered a pint of Nethergate IPA, which tasted cidery and was swirling with sediment. On politely asking for a replacement, I was told that it was "supposed to look that way". I told the barman (stout, glasses, moustache, possibly the licensee) that I was a CAMRA member, and knew that no real ale should contain that much sediment. He replied "you lot look at the beer instead of tasting it, go somewhere else". I have not been so badly treated in a pub for years, will never return, and will campaign for its removal from the Good Beer Guide. Absolutely deplorable customer service. If you want a proper pub experience, go to the nearby Mole Trap.

The Beehive, Tottenham

A great and characterful pub, normally selling two well-kept real ales (London Pride and GK IPA or similar). Always friendly and worth a visit just to look at the historic features of this place.

The Salisbury, Harringay

Great pub serving consistently good - but expensive - Fullers range of beers plus a few Belgian and European ones. Beautiful old building inside and out. Attractive bar staff possibly could be friendlier. Also great rocking jukebox, very loud in the evenings. Only downside is you need to see an independent financial advisor if you get a big round in...........

The Ferryboat Inn, Tottenham Hale

Decent pub food at reasonable prices and a fair choice of beers (usually Charles Wells or Marstons or similar) - unusual round these parts. Great in the summer, seating outside overlooking reservoirs - feels like being in the countryside. But also great in the winter with its roaring log fire. Great pub to take kids - disabled/baby-changing facilities, clean toilets, high-chairs, etc. Friendly staff also. Can get busy at lunchtimes as it is mainly a foodie pub, but this means it never gets too smoky.

The Oakdale Arms, Harringay

Everything a community pub should be - take note all you other landlords in Tottenham! Simple recipe - good choice of beers and food, friendly staff, good music, even books & magazines to read if you're bored.
Never had a bad pint here. Only downside is it's difficult to reach, especially after dark - not a nice walk! How can these guys do what every other publican and pup company in Tottenham finds so bloody difficult?

The Fountain, Tottenham

Mediocre pub selling bland multinational brands of 'beer' to the accompaniment of a Sky sports and flashing games machines. This pub looks great from the outside - all tiled and with hanging baskets and seating. Also excellent beer garden. But what's the point if there is no choice at the bar but the same unappetizing selection of fizzy piss-water that you can get anywhere else. Waste of time!

The Lord Palmerston, Tottenham

A Greene King pub with no real ale! They say there is 'no market for real ale here', despite being a short walk from Camra's north London pub of the year The Oakdale. Despicable company dumbing down its pubs to cater for lagerboys and girls. Despite all of this its an average 'local pub' serving the usual bland multinational brands in a very smoky environment.

The Swan, Tottenham

Best pint of Guinness in Tottenham - mix 50/50 with Gold Label to blend in with locals. The place badly needs a lick of paint, but usually offers a warm welcome. Slightly crazy clientele, frequented mostly by elderly Jamaicans. Loud ska music often pumps from the speakers. Very often free food provided on sundays if you drink enough (rice & peas, etc). Go to the Swan if you want a 'different' night out away from the usual Tottenham crowd.

The Antwerp Arms, Tottenham

Good pub - hard to come by in Tottenham. Sometimes sells London Pride, though this seems to be seen less often recently. Nice little beer garden and very handy for the beautiful Bruce Castle Park opposite. Better than most pubs near the Spurs ground, and full of small portraits of Spurs stars. Popular with White Van Man!

The Elbow Room, Tottenham

Tottenham is a real ale desert, so I was very happy when this place started serving a choice of ales recently. Directors, Youngs bitter and Courage bitter all now sold, though quality is sometimes not great. A friendly and typically crazy Tottenham crowd make this busy pub a good place for a few jars. Only downside is its always very smoky (though not for long - ha! ha!)
