The Barley Mow, Englefield Green

Fantastic location over-looking the green. Beer was too cold for my liking. Service could also be better. Did not try food as nothing on the menu appealed to me.

The Happy Man, Englefield Green

Great pub for real ale . A good variety of local and specialist beers, all kept in great condition. Nice environment in the evenings if a little quiet the two lunchtimes I have been in. Food is not fantastic, especially the fish and chips which is evidently not battered on the premises. However will return for the beer.

Very friendly staff - consistently polite and helpful. Only one real ale on usually but always well kept. Rotation policy - have had Timothy Taylor's Landlord, Ruddles Best, Rebellion IPA and Windsor & Eton Knight of the Garter in recent weeks. Food is easily the best in Egham. Although you will be paying about 8 for a main course it is worth it. Garden is very nice especially two weeks ago when the weather was nice. All in all a very good pub if sometimes a little on the quiet size. Full of lecturers, PhD students and suits.

Further to my previous posting I thought I'd give this pub a second chance. Popped along with a friend for a drink but the place was full of students and the beer was very very warm. Nothing against students, just didn't expect this place to be that sort of pub. Reiterate my comments about Ray not being very nice and also quite intimidating. After previous experience did not order food and stuck to packets of crisps. Shall not give a third chance due to low quality upkeep of beer and interior.

The Crown, Egham

Decent pub - standard mass pub food but that's what I expected so no complaints. Plenty of choice in terms of ales although have seen drip tray remnants being poured into glasses. Also a couple of cloudy pints. All in all a decent pub, however locals can sometimes be a little bit cocky/irritating/loud/intimidating/smelly (all of these apply at different times). Lunchtimes are better when the suits are in.

Will miss this pub, having now moved away. Great beer, good food and wonderful friends!

... Left speechless by this pub. Because of just how bad it was. Tacky multi-coloured pricing stickers all over the bar, full of regulars (regular yobs ('ow you doin mite? Nah we nicked it last Friday not Satuuuurday')) who are not the most welcoming and a distinct look of a place where substances on the wrong side of the law are tolerated if not welcomed.

These things can be tolerated if you keep yourself to yourself. But the guy behind the bar, (Ray?), well he is nothing short of a thug. But worst of all we looked at the menu and thought 'wow, a local pub selling food at prices you would expect in a Weatherspoons' but we understood why the food was so cheap when it arrived. Greasy, overcooked, poor quality and probably from Iceland. Disgusting.

Beer was clear and tasted okay, if a little bit warm. All in all, will not be returning. Just moved to the area, will try the other pubs which we hope are a little better or we may be drinking at home from now on.
