Akkurat Restaurant and Bar, Stockholm

Situated on the ground floor of a modern building - so was a bit hard to find first time. Large drinking area and a small restaurant inside.

An impressing selection of beers in their own beer-list. It was rather packed during our visit on a Friday evening, so I hope to come back on a less busy time of the day.

Oliver Twist, Stockholm

A very friendly "Kvarterskrog" in southern part of Stockholm. A good selection of international bottled beers and three ales on cask. We found two beers from Inveralmond - well treated and on a perfect temperature.

Quite busy at lunchtime - and very busy on Friday and Saturday evenings: Be sure to book a table if you plan to eat something.

The Rake, London Bridge

A nice small pub in the outskirts of the market with an outdoor seating and a very good selection of foreign beers - both on tap and on bottle.

The Six Bells, St Albans

Visited the pub twice in late September. The first night we were tempted by the home-made food but what we wanted was sold out. We returned early next day (Friday) and were told to wait half an hour because the kitchen was not open yet. We tried to enjoy ourself with a pint or two, but the beer was defenitely not well kept. Half-an-hour later we took our seats in the empty dining-area and were bluntly told that all seats were reserved.

The pub is nicly situated and inviting. We planned to stay there for the evening to enjoy the food, the beer and the music. The beer range was not good and the quality of what we drank was bad.

The evening was saved by the pub next door - were we had a good meal - and a couple of pubs listed in the Good Beer Guide were the beer quality was very good.

The Farriers Arms, St Albans

Extreme local feeling. As an outsider, you almost feel you have to apologize for disturbing the harmony!

Had a very good McMullans Summer Ale here -and a friendly welcome.

The Cross Keys, St Albans

Impressing number of hand pumps: 12 - and a great variety. Well kept beeers all the way. Normal Wetherspoons food. Cheap and OK.

Noticed that the (normally overworked) staff had time to chat with the regulars. Nice.

29 Oct 2005 17:56

The White Hart Tap, St Albans

Nice pub. They no longer have Internet computers (as stated in the GBG). Very friendly pub cat!

29 Oct 2005 17:46

The Maltings, York

Was here on a Monday in September and enjoyed the blues player. Had a really nice time drinking a variety of well kept real ales. Very friendly staff - and clientele. Try their pickled eggs.

During our 2 days visit to York my friend and I managed to visit 13 pubs. Very varied pubs, and the standard is high! The Maltings got our highest BITE-rating.

29 Oct 2005 17:37

The Swan, York

Good selection of well kept beers. Friendly staff. Extremely long sofa in one of the rooms. Impressing gents' loos.

29 Oct 2005 17:16

The Roman Bath, York

Nice accommodation on the first floor - and an impressing breakfast (lasts all day). Friendly staff, but don't go here if you are looking for real ale!

28 Oct 2005 19:45

The Rook and Gaskill, York

12 handpumps active on my visit in Sept.05. This must be one of the best selections in York.

28 Oct 2005 19:41

The Barony Bar, Edinburgh

A medium sized bar. 7 beers on cask. Fine tile work. Relaxed atmosphere on a Saturday afternoon.

28 Oct 2005 19:32

Cloisters Bar, Edinburgh

8 handpumps with a good selection of English ales. Tasted beers from Wychwood and Oakleaf Sept. 05.
Black-board with beers on and beers to come.

28 Oct 2005 19:27

Bennet's Bar, Edinburgh

A nice bar, but I was not impressed by the selection of ales on my visit in Sept. 05.

28 Oct 2005 19:16

The Old Bell, Edinburgh

An extremely well kept bar: Shining leather and polished tables all over! The Orkney Dark Island was top notch too.

28 Oct 2005 19:13

Leslies Bar, Edinburgh

An authentic old bar with an adequate selection of well kept beers. Some unique features. Friendly management and clientele.
I didn't appreciate blinking fruit machines in Victorian surroundings - until I watched Dorothy (88) having a great time in front of one.

28 Oct 2005 19:08

The Halfway House, Edinburgh

Extremely well kept ales. The staff really know how to treat it (and the customers) right! Relaxed atmosphere on a Saturday morning.

28 Oct 2005 18:52

Cafe Royal, Edinburgh

The selection of ales is not comparable to Guildford Arms around the corner, but a stunning interior.

28 Oct 2005 18:43

The Guildford Arms, Edinburgh

A perfect bar! Splendid victorian interior. Well kept ales from Cairngorm, Orkney, Broughton and Traquair House were on on my visit in sept. Friendly and observant staff.

28 Oct 2005 18:37

The Island Queen, Islington

A pub with many historic details. A pity with the dull, modern windows facing the street. Nice interior.
Found Inveralmond Thrappeldouser and Kppers Klsch here in Sept. 05

26 Oct 2005 20:07

The Wentworth Arms, Mile End

Went there on a Wednesday afternoon and was disappointed to find no beers on cask -although this is one of the few Charles Wells pubs in London.

26 Oct 2005 19:55

The Half and Half, Croydon

The Beer Circus is different! Good range of beers on tap, and the beer meny is extensive and informative. Hard working staff - but capable of giving you good advice.

26 Oct 2005 19:47

Milan Bar, Croydon

Went there last Septemper - and found no real ale. Disappointing. Cheap food. No pub feeling.

26 Oct 2005 19:39

Queens Larder, Bloomsbury

Visited it early in the afternoon on a Tuesday last September. No problem to find a table. Relaxed atmosphere and matching jazz music. OK beer, but a limited selection on cask.

26 Oct 2005 19:27

The Oakdale Arms, Harringay

The only pub I know that has got an (almost) online beer menu on it's web site. Had a nice visit here to drink unusual beers & watch football last September. My first beers from Milton, and it was a nice acquaintance. Good Sunday lunch. BEWARE: There may be a (Christian) service taking place if you arrive early on a Sunday.

26 Oct 2005 18:54

The Imperial, Fulham

Went here on a saturday sept. 05 - and was very disappointed. The satanic handpump was not even active! Only one beer on - and the Hogs Back T.E.A. was not good. Noisy place - but good music.

26 Oct 2005 18:32

The White Horse, Parsons Green

Had been looking forward to visit this "beer & food Mecca" for years, and last sept. I had the opportunity to pay a visit. Nice range of beers on cask in the bar. After moving into the dining area on the ground floor, we were presented an impressing food menu with beer recommendations. Exquisite food and beer! As a dessert we had Fuller's Vintage Ale 2002 and Harvey Imperial Extra Double Stout.

26 Oct 2005 18:27

The Duke On The Green, Fulham

Has changed the name to "Duke on the Green". Went there for the first time sept. 05 and it's obviously modernized lately. Found a beer menu with tasting notes for their Youngs beer range.

26 Oct 2005 18:08

The Fox and Pheasant, Fulham

This pub is a hidden gem! The Greene King range is well kept. Landlord Ben is doing a good job with it!

26 Oct 2005 18:02

The Oyster Rooms, Fulham

Went there for a breakfast and a beer on a saturday in septenber - just to be informed that they don't sell beer until 11 o'clock on matchdays. Food not bad. Tea not bad either.

26 Oct 2005 17:53

The Doric Arch, Euston

The pub is unfortunately not so exciting to visit since the 4 of the pumps are allocated to Fuller's. Still an OK pub - and the beers are well kept.

21 Oct 2005 21:22

Britannia, Euston Station

Opens at 9 serving breakfast. Found beers from Fuller's and Youngs sept. 05.

21 Oct 2005 21:18

The Pakenham Arms, Clerkenwell

Visited this wonderful pub last month - and was informed that one of the attractions was gone: An early breakfast. Still well kept beers!

21 Oct 2005 21:15

Oslo Mikrobryggeri, Oslo

Visited the brewpub a couple of times this month. Have no complaints about the temperature - seems to be better. Same styles on as when Sigmund visited. Ask for "En alen ale" - their sample "tray" of 5 half-pints. Enjoyed all of them - particularly the IPA.

28 May 2005 12:44

The Lorry Restaurant, Oslo

One of the best beer selections in Norway. Right now (May 05) 130 different on bottle and 10 on tap. Bierstube-feeeling inside. Outdoor seating in a dead-end street. Norwegian menu.

27 May 2005 20:18

Mllebyen Mikrobryggeri, Moss

One of the few brewpubs in Norway. Founded in 2003. Situated in an old industry building close to a small waterfall. Nice outdoor seating. A handful of beers: Mossepils, Steamer (Brown Ale), Stout, Porter, IPA and season. Food. Live music.

27 May 2005 19:57

Crockers Folly, Maida Vale

A sad story - that seems to have an unhappy end. Our "Regents_Canal_Pubcrawl" has lost one attraction -but we sure will pay respect when passing by next time (in Sept.)

Thanks to Simon and JohnBonser for keeping us informed: This is "BITE at it's best".

I am glad to have contributed with the picture - had no idea that it was for a thombstone.

8 Apr 2005 09:22
