The Albion, Hampton Court

Bit smelly, but the beer's good, and cheap too. Probably the best pub in Molesey...

Ye Olde Kings Head, Battle

Decent pub this. Good beer, jukebox. Food home cooked (it really is - doesn't look like it's seen a microwave or freezer) and pretty good. Took a little too long to arrive, but was worth the wait.

The White Hart, Catsfield

Lovely country pub. Food good, despite what they've said below (and I'm veggie!), beer good too. Nice pint of Harveys. Toilets immaculate, staff very friendly. Road didn't seem to be a problem, and a nice big friendly pub dog too. A fine choice if you're in the area!

The Lord Hotham, West Molesey

It's been done up! Unfortunately though, they've removed the curtains and installed some really bright lighting, so you can see what's inside without having to bother going in.

The shellfish van has gone. So it's not all bad.

The White Horse Inn, Hurstpierpoint

Went in at Christmas (for the first time in many years) and got to say it was pretty good. Real fire, good beer.

The Bell, East Molesey

Ropey. Vaguely threatening. And a half the floor of the gents was underwater the other Friday night. At least I hope it was water...

The Poyntz Arms, East Molesey

Been/being done up - new coats of paint inside and out. New furniture etc. Maybe even a carpet?! (Not been in since it's been finished...). Think it's got a new landlay. Seems as good as ever though - still a nice pub!

The Bell, East Molesey

Forget my previous comment. I'm not sure the 'refurbishment' is actually happening. At least it doesn't seem to involve any actual work. Just a big sign outside. It's just getting rougher and raggedier inside.

Rubicon Bar, Surbiton

Sorry, 'aspirationa' should have read 'aspirational'.
My tip is, if you're going to insult the clientele of these places, make sure the buttons on your keyboard work properly...

Rubicon Bar, Surbiton

If you like hanging out with 'aspirationa' people who work in sales, then this is the place for you. I'm proud to say that its not for me.

It doesn't serve beer either. Cocktails, yes. Expensive, weird foreign lager that appeals to sales-types desperate to impress, but franky tastes about the same as a pint of Kronenbourg (and probably is a pint of Kronenbourg, lets face it), yes. But not proper beer.

I used to like Surbiton... God I'm getting old.

The Bell, East Molesey

Drove past today and it looks like it's finally being refurbished! Hooray!

Looks like it may be closed for the duration, but not sure.

The Lord Hotham, West Molesey

It happens all the time. You move to Molesey. Your local is the Hotham. You think 'I know, let's try that pub on the corner, it might not be as bad as it looks'. It is. You don't go there again.

The Cannon, West Molesey

The Cannon.

D'you wanna fight?

The White House, Guildford

Nice pub. Despite town centre location, it's not lairy at all. Bouncers on the door, but even they were pleasant chaps. Beer good too, but then it's a Fullers pub, so what do you expect?

14 Aug 2007 18:39

The Boat Inn, Thrupp

Not a bad place. Food a bit pricey, but beer was good.

The Gardiner Arms, Tackley

Nice little country pub, beer good - couple of decent ales on the go - food good. Landlord friendly too. Found it after walking miles across fields from the canal, and was well pleased!

The Land of Liberty, Peace and Plenty, Heronsgate

Nice little pub. Very good range of real ales - there's loads of them, so the only problem is the temptation to stay there all afternoon. This is, of course, only a problem, if you're driving, so get someone else to do it and stop worrying.

Food is good too. Oh, and the toilets were very clean.

Bull, Ditchling

Quite a decent pub, did a lovely pint of Harveys. Food was good, but rather pricey and took absolutely ages to arrive - it took us three and a half hours to get fed, with half hour wait for puddings. If they could sort it out, they'd be laughing.

The Bell, East Molesey

Got to agree with the two anonymouses. This pub has gone down hill fast over the last year or so. It badly needs a lick of paint outside, maybe even a few repairs wouldn't go amiss. The garden is just awful. If the tables don't collapse under you, the flies will get you instead. Maybe cutting the grass (what's left of it) once a year would help.

To cap it all, we went on on Saturday night and three out of the four beers they had were off. So that's a pint of Courage Best then.

Oh yeah, and the bar staff are rubbish too. This place really needs a kick up the bottom.

Swan Inn, Birlingham

Lovely little pub this. Good beer (plenty of weird and wonderful real ales, and a draught cider to boot) and a cracking ploughmans. As the fella below says, visitors are welcome (you get the impression from the setting of it that everyone inside will stop talking and turn to stare at you when you walk in. They don't). Bit out of the way, but if you're in the area, check it out.

It's in the Good Beer Guide too.

The Boaters Inn, Kingston Upon Thames

This place could be great, but it's being let down by the surly staff (or at least the fella who seems to be the landlord...) and the poor beer quality. We went there for the afternoon last Friday (pretty much a once a year visit...) and, yes, the TEA is flat, lifeless and - I hope it was just my imagination - a bit... erm... watery... The Kronenbourg didn't taste as strong as it usually does either. As I say, it may be just my poor taste buds or my wild imagination.

Other than that, sometimes this place is great, but sometimes it's very poor. Bit of a shame really.

The Beacon Hotel, Dudley

Quality pub. They brew their own beer, which seems to be very popular with the CAMRA types. And me. The Ruby Mild, Sedgley Surprise and Snowflake are all cracking - they taste great but are absolutely lethal. Don't expect to spend a boozy New Years Eve there then go to a christening at 10am the next day, without regretting it. Oh my head....

The Albion, Hampton Court

Been back a couple of times recently, and its an awful lot better than when I first went a couple of years ago. Sounds like there's a new landlord, and the bar staff are now actually friendly! They smile! They're helpful! Think it's open late as well (midnight I think), and they've got rid of the air raid siren. Good range of beers too - proper ones I mean - as well as the usual lagers.

Basically, ignore my previous comment. It's a nice pub now.

2 May 2006 19:01

The White Horse Inn, Hurstpierpoint

Used to go here a lot - not a bad pub. The usual Hurst kind og thing; public bar with bare floors, pool tables and heavy drinkers - at the younger end of the age scale. Saloon bar pretty good - real fire, etc, although you have go through the bogs to get from one bar to the other...

26 May 2005 21:15

The Poacher, Hurstpierpoint

Not been in for a couple of years, but this was a pretty decent little pub. Real country style - albeit on the High Street of the village. Real log fire, hardened drinkers propping up the bar. Not bad at all.

26 May 2005 21:11

The Poyntz Arms, East Molesey

Love this place. Don't go in that often but never regret it when I do. A proper pub. When I watched a couple of the England games last summer in there, and some rather rude songs were sung, the landlady told people off for bad language. Nice!

3 Jan 2005 19:11

The Royal Oak, West Molesey

Seems to have been taken over recently, and has finally entered the 21st century. Still does Mild, though, so all is well. A nice little pub.

3 Jan 2005 19:07

The Ram, Kingston Upon Thames

Unfortunately, seems to have gone down hill over the last couple of years. And a very big hill at that. The bar staff aren't the brightest people on earth, there doesn't seem to be a manager, the beer's no good, the toilets are still a disgrace. It smells so bad, it makes you wish the air was still thick with fag smoke.

Badly needs proper renovation - didn't they give it a lick of paint quite recently? Sad really. Used to love it...
