The Old Pack Horse, Loughborough

This pub is shut at the moment, but good news: it will reopen as a Blue Monkey pub!

The Quorndon Fox, Loughborough

Not a very interesting pub. Average to poor beer. It has been renovated recently, I cant remember the dcor as its so dull. The food was fine. I had, er I cant remember.

There is nothing to recommend this pub, aside from the fact there is little actually bad about it.

The Moon And Bell, Loughborough

Of all the JD Wetherspoons I have visited, I think this is one of the best. It's no gastro/real ale pub, but it's cheap, the staff seem efficient enough, and it has a good range of beer that are kept better than the JD average.

The customers here seem slightly less interested in simply getting smashed compared to the JD norm, most using it as a normal pub which is nice.

The outdoor area is okay in the summer.

Amber Rooms, Loughborough

It's a Lloyds Bar, and does everything you expect from one. Cheap in the day, old geezers drinking from 9am, 40 year olds getting drunk at night and terrible dancing... not my thing but lots of people like that!

The Albion Inn, Loughborough

Nice pub, with a Landlord who you can just tell has been installed there forever and is very happy about it (nothing wrong with that at all).

I visited last Christmas, and the pub was inviting, warm and cosy. Just what we wanted on a cold snowy evening. It wasn't particularly busy, but had a good atmosphere and I think games were available.

They had a couple of beers I hadn't seen or tried before, so it is hard for me to be super-critical of the beer condition. However they tasted good, and the landlord clearly took care and pride in them (you can tell on the pouring, I always think).

This pub would be on my good pubs of Loughborough list.

The Newshouse, Loughborough

This venue is now shut, I hear that the bar next door purchased it.

Paget Arms, Loughborough

I had heard a lot about the Paget, and was looking forward to my visit. I tried to enjoy the beer, but the condition was distinctly average. I like my paler ales, which was good as this was all they had on my visit. The person I went with likes more traditional beers, of which they had none. I feel a good real ale pub should have a range of beers, so I'm in no rush to return. The staff didn't seem to know much about the beer aside from that they sold a lot of Sunchaser to students.

The place itself seems quite nice, a little shabby perhaps. I imagine it is pleasant in summertime with the outdoor space with Games machines.

As above, it's located in the golden triangle for students. I'm fine with there being lots of students but from my experience this shouldn't mean below par beer.

The Swan In The Rushes, Loughborough

A superb pub, by some margin the best in Loughborough, in my opinion, though the Generous Briton is getting good.
I look forward to visiting when I visit Loughborough (I live in London) and do so regularly. The Swan is all about the beer, with an extensive selection of well-kept real ales. On the very rare occasions that my pint hasnt been tip-top the staff are only too happy to know.

The locals are friendly but not overbearing (head in on a Friday or Saturday and youll end up talking to someone!). Food is tasty and delicious, well priced. The Swan Chilli goes down very well indeed.
Am I being over-positive? Well compared to the many thousands of pubs serving average beer, 2.50 for a pint of award winning well-kept Harvest Pale is refreshing. One warning: pop in for one and you might still be there 5+ pints later, it goes down that well!

They have music and comedy events that are not usually my thing; however the set up of the pub means they dont interfere with a pleasant pint.

In summary a thriving pub because of good beer and service; the Swan shows why so many pubs in the UK are going bust - they are rubbish in comparison!

The Town of Ramsgate, Wapping

Brilliant friendly little boozer, with the best kept ales in the area by a long way. The London pride is always top notch, as the landlord has had many years experience with fullers.

Within a few visits I was being warmly greeted by the staff and locals- a rare thing nowadays.
