The White Swan, Charlton

Pub is now under complete new management as of September 2015, no longer tied to Punch and is now serving a wide range of local ales. Hop Stuff brewery is the local regular beer on tap, plus many others. So far in the first week, we've seen beers from Hop Stuff, Brockley, Caveman, Windsor & Eaton, Westerham & also Magic Bus Cider. Decor is now pleasing and gone is the pool table & bandits. Pub table games on offer and a promise of decent pub grub. Pub is linked with the very successful local "Pelton Arms" and is bringing the local music talent to the pub. Average price of a pint is £3.70 and I personally can not complain at the quality so far served. CAMRA members will get 50p off a pint of cask ale when card is shown.

The Sebright Arms, Bethnal Green

Popped into The Sebright Arms as it had a mention in the newly published “Craft Beer London” book (page 76) and can say that the write up did it fair justice.
Four cask ales were being pulled that evening, Two from Redemption “Rock the Kazbek”4.0% and “Urban Dusk” 4.6% and Two from East London Brewery ”Foundation Bitter” 4.2% and “Quadrant” an oatmeal stout at 5.9%, gorgeous can only slightly describe this wonderful stout. Some chap called Arthur in Dublin has got a lot of catching up to do if he wants to knock out a stout as good as this.
We were made very welcome by the bright and happy bar staff who offered a sample if we wanted to try before selecting. Thought best if we had a pint of each, so we could give an accurate opinion, (my excuse) and found all beers in excellent condition. A nice touch was that each beer pump had a small plaque describing what to expect.
As we were too late to try out the “Lucky Chip” catering, renowned for producing some of the best burgers in London, we will have to make another visit. Shame that, will probably have to try the latest four draft ales again. Life’s so damn hard.
Great old character style pub that has been saved from demolition, well worth a visit, but do seem strict on closing time. Stopped serving three minutes early the night we were in, so don’t hang about.

The Carpenters Arms, Limpsfield Chart

As of April 2012 this pub is now run by The Westerham brewery. They serve a range of Westerham Ales, Belgian beers and genuine craft brewed lagers. They offer a good range of homecooked food, but as I turned up on a Monday, I was unable to sample. Check out Westerham Brewery website for more details.

The Sun in the Sands, Kidbrooke

I am pleased to announce that the pub has re-opened and not fallen into the hands of a dreaded developer. It burst back into life this week but sadly has not improved, if anything, it may have got worse if that was possible. Sampled the Fullers "London Pride", served at amazing warmth of 19.4⁰c for 3.40 per pint. (How do they do it so cheap?) Not sure if they had replaced stocks, but this came up totally insipid and rough to the point of being undrinkable, such a sad shame. This pub has all the viable makings of being an excellent venue, if only somebody would try. Will give it another go in a few weeks to see if there is any change and report my findings.

The Sun in the Sands, Kidbrooke

As of March 2011, this pub is now closed and boarded up. Another well known land mark bites the dust.

The Princess Alice, West Thamesmead

For us Cask Ale lovers, at long last they have installed THREE HAND PUMPS. Fullers "LONDON PRIDE" and Greene King "IPA" was available when I visited on the 12th June 2009 and I believe it was 1.86 per pint. Carvery and pint for under six quid "BRILLIANT"

The Union Tavern, Woolwich

Demolished and rebuilt as flats etc. Was a great establishment many years ago. Heart felt remembrances to Fruity.

Great Harry, Woolwich

Most entertaining establishment. Characters from all walks of life. Never a dull moment. Cask Beer usually good, will agree with the "SLOW" staff and in some cases, non existent until closing, when you can guarantee a serious lot verbal and bell clanging to get you out. Food is normally OK, when you eventually get it. Door control on a Friday and Saturday night, which can lead to some interesting confrontations, a worthy spectators sport from a distance. Worth using as a late venue, as it has a good crowd of friendly locals who seem to turn up around 22:30.

The Woodman, Charlton

As of the 17th June 2009, the pub is now closed and boarded up. What a waste of a fantastic local. Great garden, large car park, huge two bar pub, tons of accommodation. Ex Taylor Walker, could have been a brilliant establishment. Now probably worth more as yet another building plot. Only one pub left out of SEVEN locals. "THE KINGS ARMS" The IRA had a damn good go at getting rid of it, but it still remains. So if it is to stay, then we had better all support it.
