The Metro Bar, Sidcup

I used to use this pub many years ago when I lived in Blackfen before moving up North. However when I was in London visiting family this week I called in and had a great evening. The pub has live music and caters for a mixture of tastes. I would certainly recommend going in now it is under new and better management.

Brockley Jack, Brockley

Even though my brother and his family use this pub regularly, and had told me many times about how good it was, I had my first visit there on Tuesday 9th Dec for a family meal as it was my mothers 80th birthday. I must say I was very impressed by the menu and the quality of the food when delivered and the service was great. The bar service was spot on and I will certainly recommend this pub for a night out whether it be for drinks or to have a meal. Now having been here once I will definitely be popping back when next in London.

Kentish Drovers, Peckham

Having been in London seeing my family last week our first port of call did not do food on a Saturday so we wandered down Rye Lane to this pub. The service was very good, polite and quick. We tried the food and I must say all 4 of us were impressed with its freshness and quality and were pleased we came here instead for lunch. Will certainly use this pub again when next in Peckham.

The White Horse, Peckham Rye

Popped into the pub last Saturday with the intention of having a pub lunch with my family but was advised that they only do food from Monday to Fridays and Sundays. No Saturdays!! So lunch was had elsewhere. A business opportunity missed I think when you consider how busy Peckham is on a Saturday.

The Golden Lion, Ormskirk

Well what a makeover that this pub has undergone. Out goes the dark, cold uninviting miserable pub to be replaced by a bright, airy, open plan pub and a warm welcome from the bar staff. They also have a new chef and a fantastic menu which I would recommend you try. It would also seem to be the pub to go to now in Ormskirk as it is constantly busy. As an additional "plus side" for the drinkers of Ormskirk, it means that the other local pubs will have to "up their game" if they want to compete with the new look Golden Lion.

The Stanley Arms, Skelmersdale

Having recently move into the area and having tried numerous pubs, my Partner and I were recommended to use this pub by a colleague and I must say this is by far one of the best easygoing friendly pubs around. We have not, as yet, tried the food but the menu looks very good. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Old Pear Tree, Wigan

My Partner and I decided, for a change, to pop into Wigan to try a few different pubs. We saw this one and, from the outside, it looked quite good. We went in only to be met by a stale horrible smell from the pub itself and rap music blaring at 5pm on a Friday afternoon.

Hoping things could improve the barmaid stood chatting on her phone as customers waited to be served. When she spotted customers waiting she carried on talking on her phone, eventually wandering down the bar, took a drink and food order from one customer and put the order through the till whilst still chatting on her phone. She continued talking on the phone when she returned with the customers change. Not once did it occur to her to put her phone down and provide a proper service to paying customers. We walked out.

The Royal Victoria and Bull, Dartford

Popped into this pub at about 12.30ish on Sat 29th with my daughter as we were deciding what to do for lunch. The rather stroppy barmaid, who looked about 16, said that my daughter (who is 14) could not come in unless we were going to eat there. Needless to say with THAT attitude we decided to spend my money elsewhere!!. Shame really as only 2 months earlier we were in there without so much of a hint of a problem. But I suppose when you have 4 bar staff on and only 5 customers in the pub (as they did when we popped in) they could afford to be choosy about who they admit during their "busy" Saturday lunchtime trading period!!.

The Wishing Well, Peckham

Stayed for 3 days in their B&B with my girlfriend and had a lovely time. Enjoyed the pub which had a relaxed atmosphere and even though the pool room was busy we had a few games of pool without anyone bothering us at all and if anything people were quite friendly. We would certainly stay there again.
