Hoagys Bar, Leeds

This aint a bad pub. Its not the nicest place to be i'd be the first to admit that. Not a bad pub, it seems rough but ive never seen a fight. I agree with the landlord thing that fella under me has said, not friendly.

Jukebox is prettttty awesome! I met a reallly cool barmaid there once,

Beer is expensive. wouldn't be my first choice but If im in town and need a beer and its there why not.
so I'll give it a thumbs up just dont expect too much.

Becketts Bank, Leeds

I;d say the place is a bit too big, and trying to get served seems to be a real task! mucho shouting over to forgetful barmen and maids.

Otherwise good pub, good range of beers, in town center, pretty awesome.

The Duck and Drake, Leeds

Well as a rocker its awesome to see a real pub with real music.
I've only been in twice now, there is a fine range of good ales, that seem to be changing alot much like spoons.
Havent spoken to anyone yet. Ive tried to strike up a conversation but people didnt seem that friendly but i'll just put that down to chance.
Otherwise it has a lot of Rock icons painted onto the wall, and many magazine montages on their walls. They need more KISS and less stones lol.
Didnt know they play dnd there. Nice pub, good beer, great music, clean toilets, nice decor, overall nice place and IF you happen to use the megabus STOP is literally across the road.

Ealing Ex-Servicemen's Club, Ealing

My local!
The Ealing Ex Service mans club,
After 17 years of drinking here I think I am 100% qualified to review this place.
Its effectually a working mans club by day, A nice LONDON pub. it opens at in the evening in weekdays, on the weekends there is live music by live acts from across the country there is card bingo ( which is fun) and cash prices and well as raffles for drinks.
The atmosphere is one of a friendly one, There sadly is a few assholes, who can ruin things. Mainly ex and current committee members (sadly a lot of nice places is ruined by the committee and there powers)
There sadly isnt that many drinks available so if youre an Ale drinker or Real Cider drinker Dont stop here.
Fosters, Carlsberg, 1664, guniness, theakston mild, are the only real pumps they have.
Ciders include Bulmerand well just bottled to the point.
The prices I would say are reasonable. 2.50 on avg, which is good for a Ealing club.
It is a members only club but many outsiders are welcomed Ive yet to see somebody be turned away without good reason.
There are quite a few theme nights like Elvis nights or Ladies nights, poker nights, and race nights, also sometimes cider farm trips and seaside trips.

There is a upstairs with pool table priced 60p, dart boards downstairs, and another bar for parties and things upstairs again.

The negatives with the club is it is a family club so kids do run around (not in your way but it happens) , the beers arent always well kept I have had a few bad pints there in the last 12months and had a iffy tummy and I wasnt the only one.
Again certain committee members or is he an Ex committee can be somewhat annoying and in your face. Limited selection of beers and ciders and ales.

The positives
Great prices, friendly people, good vibe, good beer most of the time, clean toilets, cheep pool table, clean glasses, good music, fruit machines, friendly staff I could go tbh.

Id say its aimed at over 50s+ BUT aged 23 me and my boys love the place always a real laugh and a funky time.
Pop in for a drink there. Nice place!

The Kings Arms, Hanwell

When I was a kid, my dad Noel took me here a lot. It was alright, as a kid it was nothing special. Well its been though quite a lot of mangers since 1996 (when I first went) The place has never really changed. Though was closed down for a month to re furbish the place. A few new seats and new tables, and well nothing else really changed. the bar staff shifted over and they ripped out a row of seats. I think its a one day job but hell thats not whats important.

OK well I started drinking back there again, its actually quite boring and mundane for an Irish pub. Dark and has a strange feel to the place.
Its now owned by another local pub FLYNNS! Which again isnt a good pub, but Ill explain that in another review.
The beer isnt that great, its always got that fizzy! Tonicy taste to it, on just the 1664s and caslberg, I wouldnt mind if it was a cheep pint but its on the 3quid mark sometimes more sometimes less but Id say a tenner might see you for 3 drinks maybe.
The one staff member is ok, Only because I know her anyway, but the main barlass is unfriendly and just sits and chats with the regulars even when shes meant to be serving.
Its the RACING or at the races on the telly 24/7 or if your really lucky (sarcasm ..) a Irish football game on from two teams you have never heard of.
Now Im London Irish and LOVE Irish pubs believe me just this one can be, waiting for the pearly gates. The mortuary comment is so true. It even smells that way.

Theres a lot of OLD grumpy people there, quite If your not a local or not the son of a local GET out feel to it.
The beers are quite flat and a pint of Gunniess is such a gamble I mean I have had maybe 12 out of 22 pints that where actually pretty darn good.
Ok well its quite a critical review now so Ill try and shine a tad of light on this dungeon.
Well if your into Irish folk, (saw doctors, Christy Moore, Galway girl) kind of music and some Irish country THEN maybe its pretty good, I like it. Sunday 7pm till 9 which reallllly is such a strange time for a pub.
Theres sometimes lock-ins they stop serving when everybody is gone sometimes, Thats a good thing I believe. If you are fella with your girlfriend and shes aged between 18 too 4 I would say dont take her as youd get 60year old Irish drunks drooling and staring and barging into you.

Personally I wouldnt recommend this pub, if your not a local. If you are then maybe you will be ok. I found myself watching my back after a few times, as the stairs and comments started flooded in.
Beer is poor, the price is HIGH, its not the cleanest pub, the atmosphere isnt that great.

Id say over the years this place has really gone down hill, the locals like it and thats who they cater for. Even though its a massive pub 3 bars with so much potential it wont ever be a good pub until its 100% new!
If weather spoons was to buy it it be a great watering hole.

Sadly no at great review for this pub but Alice Draven ha spoken and dont think Id want to go back if I can help it.

The Moorgate, Kippax

The Moorgate in Leeds Kippax is a Samuel Smith pub, it hosts a number of Sam Smith's beers and ales. Personally I love to have a nice of Sovereign priced at 1.55 (2011 as of writing) which is a great price its a smooth ale that has a nice taste and well worth it. Old brewery bitter is a great pint as well. Again cheep and well worth it.
For the lager drinkers Taddys is a great pint it also comes in a shinny tall funky glass its served nice and cold and is kept well.
The top shelf is not a Sam Smiths I forget the name, but I like the odd whiskey and told the Governor Bob that I like Southern comfort.. He had a quick think and gave me a shot of son of the south whiskey priced 1.88 WHICH is great for any night out.

OK well the staff are always friendly and work hard, you dont see them sitting there twiddling there thumbs, always busy but happy and easy going.

The place is a clean well kept pub.

The ales and beers ect are all well kept and the lines cleaned and polished and it looks good as it tastes.

The pub is very much a local pub, When I first came with long hair and a tad of eyeliner on (yes im a bloke btw lol and yes straight think Russell brand meets Johnny deep Thats me) I got a few odd looks PLUS Im a London boy.
After they saw me a few times was all very friendly and kind and welcoming, now they see me a lot they are all very sweet and kind.

The only downfall I can find is that Sam Smiths pubs made the CHOICE to take away the TVs and music and live music, Which is a shame as many a rugby fan (Leeds rhinos or the cas tigers) drink there.

To the upside of the downside, they have quizzes on Sunday and Tuesday eve, only a quid to play per team. Unwind nights and others of which I cant remember.
Overall I say its a great pub and cheapest in the area, maybe the best ales and defo the friendliest.
Well worth the trip.
This is my first pub review so I hope that it comes across clear and that I have helped in someway shape or form.
If you see a 23 year old ponytail Londoner in the corner .. Thats me!
