This is typical of a number of Young’s pubs these days – sofas, low tables, very clean and clinical. It’s not much like the pub I used to know when it was a bastion of real facing the onslaught of keg beer. It was also quite smaller then, before it bought up, and expanded into, the premises next door. Any real character it had has been lost over the years. And Young’s Special for over £3 a pint is pretty expensive, even by London standards. But I’ve no doubt that there are people who like this sort of place, in which case good for you – but it’s not for me!

I stopped in here for lunch a few weeks ago. I found a very quiet pub, not too many customers, but it was mid afternoon. I had fish and chips which although a little pricey was very good. A good selection of Youngs beers on tap. There were sofas and tables in one part of the pub and high chairs and tables in another. It was an enjoyable experience and I would certainly visit again.

Service good but rare steak cooked all the way through so no pink and burnt potato wedges underneath. Wine also very pricey. OK

Situated in Covent Garden, The Marquis of Anglesey is an upmarket, slightly trendy Young’s establishment. The neat interior, rubber stamped fittings and living room style seating style seating undoubtedly sits well with the masses and I have to admit, I was comfortable enough on my visit yesterday evening (29th Dec). The roaring fire was most definitely welcome. Clientele were on the modern side and most definitely not local. In fact I doubt this is a pub which ever has a specific regular crowd. The beers on offer were pricey, though both the Winter Warmer and Special were served in decent nick. This isn’t a spectacular pub by any means, buy yes, its decent enough and worth swinging by if in the area.

Visited a couple of weeks ago for a reunion with some ex work colleagues. What an excellent pub. Reasonable range of real ales and well kept. We ate there also and found the food to be excellent also. Will definitely use this one again when I'm in the area.
