Went into Parchies for the first time in ages. I was amazed at the improvements. Yes it's still a Wetherspoons, so good quality, cheap food and beer. But the biggest improvement seems to be the staff - they smile! They chat to you! They give you the right change! Food was really tastey and served very quickly. As the last poster said - it's a town centre pub - but unlike so many homogenised town watering holes, this place has character, a great pint and some lively characters for that most traditional of English pub visits - banter. I'll be back soon!

Despite previous reviews creating a rather negative description of this pub, I have found that over the past two years there have been ernomous improvements and have no complaints what so ever!
The staff are all very friendly and welcoming, providing fast and efficient service with both food and beverages.
Characters found within the pub are what is to be expected from any fairly large town and I can honestly say I have met people from all walks of life in the Parchmant makers and am yet to have had a negative encounter.
I think previous comments have shown a discinct lack of understanding when it comes to what to expect from inner city and central town pubs and bars. I get from the Parchment makers what I personally expect; that is very reasonably priced food and drink, warm and friendly service from staff who always remember who I am, and the usual banter from punters who may have had one too many on a friday night (as you get everywhere!).

A Wetherspoons pub situated in a hamlet slightly of Pompey, mmmmmmmmmm........

Unfortunately this is about as predictable a pub as it gets, plenty of teenage mums, and fights aplenty.

Used to be bearable of a Friday night after they employed the bouncers. Decent range of beer and you can't argue with those prices. Waiting at the bar was always interesting, surrounded as you were by various 'colourful' characters.

Prior to this you were taking a physical risk entering the premises.

Not visited for a while but I imagine the closure of the alcohol-serving youth club known as The Dolphin has not done much to improve the clientele.

Another generic, soul-less Wetherspoons. The main clientele seems to be of the under-25 Burberry-wearing lager-loutish kind. The food has recently been close to inedible, my medium steak appeared to have been left under the grill for about 20 minutes too long. No atmosphere, meaning that I come in here solely for the real ales, which I must say are still the best range in Havant
