Went to the Pelican Hotel on 05.03.2001 to celebrate the 25th anniversay of some very special friends. First impression of the private function room was that it looked tired and in need of some updating, ie decoration. The staff worked extremely hard to serve the guests, both behind the bar and serving of food. The tables were not set properly with no condiments availbale until asked for. A lack of spoons became evident when the dessert was served which meant a lenghty wait. A lack of wine glasses was also a problem and slow service behind the bar due to lack of staff. Wine was to have been served on arrival but this ended up on the tables with the meal due to lack of staff and organisation. occasion. Duty manager finally appeared very late in the evening after a request for his some time before. Poor, slow service and lack of staff spoiled an otherwise special occasion.

Stopped in here for a pre-match meal and pint after a long drive from Southampton (22/08/09). Was staying in the Altrincham lodge hotel located directly behind for the evening, was up for the Wimbledon game. Saw the menu and reviews, and feared the worst, but was pleasantly surprised. Really polite and diligent staff. A decent selection behind the bar, couple of real ales and the usual suspects. Timothy Taylor was in good nick. Gambled on the two steaks for £10 and was stunning for the price, could not fault it at all. Locals seemed a bit intimidating but were very chatty and welcoming. Lots of tellys about which was ideal for the cricket. Default modern pub interior but all things considered, pretty good!

Brilliant pub! Since the refurb this place is fantastic! Great food, great atmosphere, friendly helpful staff and management. This is now my regular.

It’s great in here now it’s no smoking. I actually go in the place more often and drink more... That’s the downside the upside is only takes me five minutes to walk to the place but strangely a lot longer to get home. Up the Red's

Nice little pub to go to with friends or family.

keep in mind that the regulars are usually students from the college up the road.

There are two areas, one for smokers and one for non smokers.

The food is excellent and there's also a quiz night on Thursdays.

However the pub is nothing unique but just as I said a nice little pub.
