I've frequented quite a few Witherspoons over the years, and yet the Penny Black is without doubt the worst! It had more atmosphere when it was a draper's shop!!
They advertise their own 'beer festivals', yet I've found during the festival they seem limited to just two or three guest beers in addition to the usual fare.
Low prices are their obvious forte, and at almost 50% cheaper than all others in the town you can't ignore the place.
Like all other town centre pubs in Kiddy on a weekend they employ two 'doormen', yet recently seemed to have bucked the trend and ditched all the security; I don't think anyone has noticed!

Service was a bit slow, but we were served with reasonable real ale. Had to take a load of crockery off an uncleared table before we could get our drinks on. Extremely busy, but a member of staff advised us on other real ale pubs in the area to try. Toilets clean.

Met up with a couple of friends in there last Saturday. Nothing has changed since my last post - other than that I didn't dare order anything to eat.
The main problem seems to be that they never have enough staff - hence the large amount of glasses/full ashtrays/sticky tables at 5.30 in the afternoon!

They also open at 9am for Kidderminsters finest class of pisshead.

Just because the place is reasonably priced for Kiddy (i.e cheap) does not give it the excuse to be dirty, smell and generally sh*te. Or maybe it does?
