good news! this pub has started to do food again.the menu has a varity of home cooked meals and is all under a fiver apart from the specials which are £5.95.and they are a delicious plate full! the athmosphere is warm and inviting. they have occasional live on friday nights. there is a quiz night on monday starting at 8.30 which i have enjoyed too.I have yet to try the meat raffle on saturday but im expecting good things!there is a varity of real ales which all taste good to me. anonymous - 26 Oct 2007 13:36
What has happened to this pub!! I went to the taswell on a friday night and the beer was awful. How can a pub go down hill so much in the 8 months since i was last here. On my last visit in january this pub had quality beer and a nice atmosphere. Now it seems that nobody cares about the place. This was confirmed by its lack of customers. anonymous - 2 Oct 2007 18:13
popped in on friday night seemed a nice little pub, reasonable beer, people talking, then the live "music" started, i left about 5 minutes later along with 2/3rds of the other customers, why do landlords do this? littlecon - 26 Aug 2007 16:20
WHAT A FIND!!! I have lived in southsea all my life but have never been to the taswell before but i will be going back!! Myself and a group of friends spent last thursday night here to be met by what i can only say as the best kept ales i have had for a long time. The dechaurs ipa was superb as was the spitfire.(they also have summer lightning also very good i was informed)The spirit selection is second to none. The pub was very clean, the bar staff attentive and the feel of the place very friendly. This pub is a must!!! porto - 2 Feb 2007 14:35
Having socialised in Portsmouth for the last 20 years, and been a resident for only the last 6 weeks, I had previously been unaware of this backstreet boozer. I had missed out. A pleasant interior with various levels and areas (including comfy sofas), this is probably as close as you'll get to a sitting-room atmosphere outside your own house. Very well-kept ales (last Saturday night I enjoyed Landlord and Summer Lightning) and a friendly bar staff make this a good choice for a relaxed drink. I got the feeling quite a few of the clientele were having an early drink prior to a big night out - unless they're just REALLY smart around Taswell Street... tommarto - 29 Jan 2007 11:08
