Stayed in a holiday cottage nearby and enjoyed our visit to The Black Horse. The ale was well kept and reasonably priced. The interior is pretty bland and modern but the roaring log fire and stunning views more than made up for that. BlueMoon - 21 Dec 2011 15:40
Great food - I had a homemade veggie burger and it was the best I've ever had. My boyfriend had panfried duck with sweet potato puree which was delicious. Ignore the chocolate brownie at your peril - it comes with homemade vanilla ice cream and is heavenly. The staff are really friendly, the atmosphere is very comfortable, and the views are out of this world! There is no car park, but there's about 2000 acres of common and you can park on the edge of that. . You may not find it easily, but once you do, you won't foget it. Definately a hidden gem. margomargo - 18 Jul 2011 22:41

Good terraced area, and a nice feel to it, but for us that was where it ended. Staff were inexperienced and all looking to one person for help. Most couldn't pull a pint. We sat outside, enjoyed the view, but noticed the staff wandering around asking at every table if the food order was theirs. Alas, ours had a trip of the garden too, even though we were sat indoors by then and had told them where we were. Food options were limited. Burgers and 6 or 7 other choices. Burger and a veggie Lasagne (which came with a mashed potato topping) took an hour to arrive. Left after they told us to call the police when we asked to see the chef! hahaha. That was a first. Not recommended. RevJames - 13 May 2010 13:56
