This pub will appear in the 2012 Good Beer Guide but my pint of Adnams was not the best I' ve ever had. It is part of a large chain of pubs around the country so presumably has a limited range of beers - again a lack of local brews from smller breweries in the area. Loads of TV sets and standard pub food being churned out in large numbers. Pleasant enough inside and the service was prompt and efficient. It's probably worth a visit but lacks that magic sparkle that other pubs have (probably because this is a busy managed pubco bar). Handy for the shops and bus station and OK - yes I would probably pop in for one beer as a stop between The Fat Cat/Dove Street Inn and the railway station. mcroyal - 27 Nov 2011 13:21
Walked in after watching Liverpool beat Chelsea in Pals opposite, was stunned to be told it closed at 6pm. I know Sundays are different, but 6pm?! Scousefire - 13 Feb 2011 14:05
The Plough was very welcoming when I visited on a wet afternoon last week. Adnams' Bitter, Spitfire, Everard's Tiger and GK IPA on the taps - the Adnams was in tip-top condition. The staff were friendly, also. When I needed directions to the railway station, the guy behind the bar went to some trouble to give me clear directions and draw me a sketch-map, too. sloe_jane - 26 Oct 2009 21:47
vistited this pub and thought it was excellent, very wellcoming, great staff, beer and food fantastic, plus they sell red guinness which seems to be hard to get hold of, deffenitly be going again, very happy with it all :-) sunset_borderline - 11 May 2009 11:22
The landlord of this pub has serious attitude problems. He seems to consider that any display of happiness is in direct contradiction of the purpose of his pub. Woe betide anyone who feels remotely happy in his proximity as he will take this as a personal affront and an attack on the miserable atmosphere he so desperately attempts to maintain. Avoid at all costs. IRRIT8D - 18 Jan 2009 01:29
