| Without a doubt the worst pub in Bicester - give it a wide berth. They have a karaoke night on Thursdays which is very poor, and not a patch on the karaoke in G's on the same night. I found the staff to be unfriendly as well. What a shame - in the mid 90's this was one of the friendliest and welcoming pubs in Bicester. What a difference a decadce makes. | Big up The Plough! Great Hosts, friendly staff and brill food. The plough seems to be turning into a swell place to hang out, thanks to alot of TLC from the new owners (really nice couple). I'm really enjoying the atmosphere in there now, and the development of the entertainment etc means that it will only get better(you MUST come to the poker evenings!!) Well done to the guys from the Plough for bringing a decent pub to the area! anonymous - 24 Oct 2006 14:08 |
| OK, The Plough is open again and it no longer does the Sunday Roast and doesn't have wireless internet access at the moment, but that's no reason to miss it out on a visit to Bicester. Food is served 11am 'til 7pm every day, and the "Ploughman's Special" is a good bargain - it may seem that it is £2 more than the regular ploughman's, but you get half a pint of beer thrown in, and it is well worth the extra. - I tried it for the first time on Friday at lunch time and was very impressed! The Beer seems pretty good (can only vouch for the IPA and Speckled Hen myself), allthough in my opinion its not the cheapest in Bicester. There is a wide selection of Lagers and Ales (3 casks on hand-pull at the moment, although there is space for 4.) Two Wide screen TVs with Sky Sports, internet Juke Box, Darts Board, Aunt Sally, and a Pool table are provided for your entertainment, and there are regular events such as Karaoke, Live Bands, and a Quiz Night on Wednesdays. r.e. the Smoking Policy - one end of the Pub, where the pool table & darts board are located, is designated as 'the smoking area' and the staff are very hot on stopping smokers in other areas of the pub. I don't think that this is particularly a problem and, let's face it, come May '07 you won't be able to smoke inside anyway. It's not the same as the Plough was a few years ago, but it is well worth a visit - you won't be dissapointed, especially if you are hungry and have the Ploughman's Special. | Expensive and for it's location too pretentious. Don't like the autocratic rules about smoking. In short I won't be going back. GRMull - 11 Oct 2006 23:02 |
