| Have been in here many times over the years. Useful place to meet someone travelling via Charing Cross station. Can usually get a seat here when it is impossible at Gordon's. Inevitably mainly patronised by office workers, but the place has a decent ambience in my opinion. Old Wallop can be good, if pretty expensive, but I have had the odd dodgy pint which is only detected with the first gulp, because the use of pewter tankards prevents you from seeing if there might be anything wrong with it. Also, I do not rate the house wine very highly. I would not come here for the quality of the drink on offer. Some trivia - used to be a pub called The Villiers above it, pretty well where the escalator is now. Later renamed the Buckingham (Villiers being the family name of the Dukes of Buckingham). | Poor. Arrogant staff. Expensive and full of W**Kers in suits. dribbling_ak - 18 Oct 2006 13:12 |
| The Old Whallop is excellent. The wines are good as are the snacks. The restaurant does good food. Book an "office" in advance if you want to have a quiet meeting with up to half a dozen guests. There's no extra charge and the guests will be impressed. Best avoided early in the evenings as it can be full of suited w**nkers. draughtbeer - 17 Jul 2006 19:10 |
| Fine if you want a glass of wine or you are taking out a girl way above your usual standard for a quick drink before dinner but the staff are really arrogant in here juzza - 31 Mar 2006 14:20 |
| Full of twats acting like pratts (especially when one group got their bill). Overpriced 'city' crap by way of drinks. Staff tried hard - but most just seemed to want to go home. Not a place to go to unless your name is Rupert or Cuthbert. FattusBlokus - 5 Feb 2006 20:49 |
