We popped in on Saturday 14th April for a drink & meal. Having ordered a beer & wine, the barman forgot to give me my beer (which takes about 2-3 minutes to settle), going off to serve three other sets of customers, all the while he saw that I was still waiting. After a full 10 minutes I then asked the lady taking food orders that I had been waiting 10 minutes. She offered no apology, but instead said that she would check the CCTV, I'm assuming, to see if I was lying about the time! Needless to say we drank our drink and left.

Very poor response which would have been cleared up with a quick 'sorry'. Very unprofessional attitude to a customer, especially one who meets a lots of local people during the course of business.

I wonder if said lady has in fact looked at the CCTV for this and is now happy to properly apologise.......I won't hold my breath, and neither should you when ordering a drink at this pub.

I can only agree with sundayaledrinker. This place is an utter dive frequented by chavy, churlish plebeian characters. I was instantly put off by a huge TV showing sports with slack-jawed chavs stood there.
Food is very low quality. Cheap and nasty beef mostly, no organic options at all. This is a third rate nightmare. Avoid like the plague.

This is a cracking pub and one of the larger ones in Horsham, only let down by it's non-central location.

They serve decent beer and although the food is cheap, I feel it is always honest and reasonable quality. And served piping hot, which some pubs seem to struggle with!

Service is excellent and the inclusion of live music on occasion always draws a crowd and makes for a good atmosphere and a cracking night out - in particular, check out Solice whenever you get a chance.

I urge anyone reading this to avoid the Sussex Barn like the plague. The food is cheap and nasty and there's only ever one beer on tap at any one time, unless you drink lager. I've lived locally for 6 years and watched the pub decline dramatically in that time (and it was pretty awful in the first place).

Examples of bad food / service:

2 friends of mine ate there over the summer and didn't touch the chicken wings they were served as they were stone cold. When they pointed this out, their plates were just cleared away without explanation or apology.

Last weekend I went in there for a beer with a couple of friends, one of whom ordered a chicken sandwich. When he asked the girl behind the bar why it was taking 30 mins for the sandwich to arrive, she blamed the busy Sunday lunch period (there were probably a dozen people eating in there at the time). It eventually arrived with an accompaniment of cold chips. In the meantime during the same afternoon another couple complained that they had been waiting 45 mins for their lunch. The proprietor (who was obviously on microwaving / reheating duty in the kitchen) came over to the table and instead of offering an explanation, told them that if they didn't like it, they could get out. Which, sensibly, they did. After they left, the proprietor then had a good laugh about it with his local mates.

If you are ever in the area, try the Rising Sun on Pontail Road, the Black Jug in town, or one of the many proper pubs in the surrounding villages. This is possibly the worst pub in Horsham (that hasn't already been shut down).

not too sure on the management now, but haven't been here in a while cos of the atmosphere.

the bar staff can be helpful but it's 'local pub for local people'.
shame.
