Such a shame another real pub bites the dust.

It must be advertising suicide to name a consumable establishment..POISON. Praps it's French for FISH.

We have recently moved down from London and had drank at the Castle once or twice but it was mainly closed. Upon it being turned into Poison we were aprehensive to see what it would be like. We watched them refit it and it seemed to look very nice. On saturday we finally braved it when a couple of our friends came down from London and went down for a drink. Firstly we could hear the drum and base from the top of the hill, when we got in there the place was empty and the music was so loud we couldn't even hear the bar staff! I was expecting a nice over 21 bar It was anything but! the only people hanging around outside appeared to all know each othere and be totally trashed. Never ever again! We walked around the corner to the Queens arms. Much friendlier, still not a trendy bar but at least you could order a drink and sit down for a chat with your friends.

I was saddened when I saw his place yesterday - apart from the name 'Poison' - the interior has been completely gutted. This was a fine example of a real pub, one of a very rare breed in Basingstoke and someone has destroyed it all. Why did they have to choose The Castle? You can take any old unit in town and turn it into a bar. No regard for history at all. It is a real, real shame.
