Nice pub but at a ridiculous £3.35 for a pint of indifferent Hall and Woodhouse beer, I won't be going back. And it's my local. camranelly - 8 May 2008 12:36
Rural Hall & Woodhouse dining pub with a strong regular bar trade. The pub itself can be difficult to find. Expect a good range of well kept Badger beers including the seasonal, and the usual ciders, lagers etc. The food is a bit of a 'curates egg', good in parts. The dishes from usual H&W menu are at best, somewhat better than OK, whilst the specials board can often supply something much better. Staff and management are friendly, but when the pub is busy can, understandably, be somewhat off hand with regard to the solo drinker. My rating? 6. More consistency with regard to the quality of the food would raise the mark at least another notch. If you do go, and it is not my intent to discourage, please buy a book from the s/h stall, they're cheap and all proceeds go to charity. Runningdog - 6 Apr 2008 18:45
Our family of six,4 adults and 2 children arranged Sunday lunch for my birthday. The pub was very busy. 3 adults ordered the roast lamb. We waited 45 minutes. The lamb was very good indeed. The rest was very poor. The roast potatoes were indigestible, overcooked leather skins and the other vegetables consisted of a spoonful of leeks, a few tiny tinned carrots and some green beans. Not what a call a good English roast. This in the autumn when there was a wealth of wonderful vegetables in the local markets. The manageress accused me of being rude which I probably was but her unhelpful response to my complaint made a hungry diner very angry. valbill. - 5 Nov 2007 09:04
very nice little pub, took a while to find it, but when we eventually did, there was ample parking and a pleasant atmosphere. Lagers on offer were a range of HB's which were very nice, amongst various others. The menu looked great, not trying to be anything other than a country pub, expect greats like Ham Egg and Chips or a range of decent sarnies! The only down side was on our return trip to this pub we discovered that they close in the afternoon from 2:30 until 5:30pm! which was a little dissapointing as I was looking forward to enjoying an afternoon here. dixon75 - 12 Jul 2007 15:06
