This pub used to be a great place but has become a vicitm of its own success. I would imagine that outside of the tourist season it would still be ok. But at peak times give it a miss.

Just been to the hole in the wall - we always pay a visit when in Bowness - however, today we were bitterly dissapointed, the food was simply aweful, the coleslaw was off, the oven baked spud was microwaved. My wife went for a ploughmans - again coleslaw off, nothing was fresh, the plate was not large enough. The staff were unfriendly, to the point where we felt it useless to complain, the picnic benches are old and dirty - there are far better places to eat in Bowness now - we shall not be returning.

Very Olde Worlde type pub (its about 400 years old!) with loads of character and ornaments to keep one amused. 4 Ales on tap, mostly Robinsons. Had the Lamb Henry on our last day and it was mouth wateringly good! Recommended.

Really enjoyed this pub. The stuffed animals are good to look at and you certainly won't get cold if sat by the roaring fires in the winter.
