I really wanted to like this pub; it welcomes walkers and dogs (with well-behaved owners!), the beer is fine, and it's a traditionasl country pub which we should all support. So why did they ruin our Sunday roast ?? I have not had such a bad meal in a long time; the vegetables were virtually rotten and had to be returned; the yorkshire pudding was so heavy it could have been used as a weapon; the beef was grey and lying in a watery gravy. And to cap it all when I went to pay the £50+ bill at the bar, the barmain asked in a load voice so that all present could hear 'would you like to leave a tip sir ?' presumably on the assumption that with everybody at the bar watching I would do so; unfortunately she was mistaken. I like to think our bad treatment was a one off, but it will be a while before I go back to find out..... happy_wanderer - 15 Sep 2011 17:22
This pub changed hands in 2010 so although the pub itself is little changed, obviously the previous reviews re. service and beer and food will be out of date. Ringwood ales, Best, Fortyniner and Old Thumper plus another two real ales I can't remember. Beer was OK. A large choice of beer for a country pub down a quiet lane, it was very quiet when we visited midweek lunchtime. Large choice of good, not over fancy, reasonably priced pub food, to suit everyone from sandwiches to full meals. real_ale_and_blunder - 12 Aug 2011 16:53
It is sad that this pubs low rateing is based on early reviews. All I ask is that you base your appraisal on all those post 2007 because this is a great pub. Our walking group dropped in at 11.30am for a pint & liked it so much we stayed for lunch. My only gripe was that I missed out on the excellent Wareham faggot dish, as there was only one portion left. So I can only echo what others have said, great Ringwood beer, chrystal clear, lovely food & another pub where we were made genuinely welcome. Oh! & if you are into horses you will be in good company. Dessert Orchid came from these parts. My rateing an 8.5 John.T - 18 May 2009 19:05

There are now new land lord and lady - brother and siter they are the friendliest people ever! We go there qite often now for food they do fish and chip and a steak night t a very resonable price of £6.50! All of the locals are very friendly - occasionally live music and a beer festival which is always a great night! Very tidy and large bar area! And you have to try the lasagne! ebab831 - 25 Jul 2007 14:35
